Be gentle with me here but while I have used several Linux distributions for several years and been a 5500 owner for about two I'm pretty stupid when it comes to device drivers, modules, etc. etc. etc. (In all that time I have never even compiled ANYTHING, well not successfully anyway.)
I purchased two of the $23 Pretec CompactWLAN wireless cards, (model:OC-WLBXX-A), that are listed in the Great Deals forum from the Home Shopping Network a while back. I could not get them to work correctly for me in my 5500 but was given another SMC card like I had originally had and it solved my problem. Recently I began using a 6000L and purchased another 5500 and gave one to my wife and the other to my oldest daughter. I REALLY need to get one of these cards working and don't know how. I've read the complete thread in that forum and it seems to work flawlessly for most other ppl. It's probably because of my ROM or something so here's my details if someone can help:
Sharp Zaurus SL-5500
I'm using the 64/0 Cacko Rom that was based on one of the early SHARP rom's. This was NOT the flinders Rom, it was the first Cacko that came with the new SD drivers installed if that helps anyone. I cannot figure out how to tell what the exact version was as it is not displayed in the system info display.
Pretec Pocket PC 802.11b CompactWLAN model:OC-WLBXX-A
I also read a post in the "Great Deals" thread that included the following clue(s):

Good card, uses prism 2.5 chipset. You probably want to upgrade the firmware and use hostapi driver with it.

I'm assuming he means a firmware upgrade offered by the wireless card manufacturer and while I have scoured the companies site I have been unable to find a flash upgrade for it, nor any other reference to a "firmware upgrade".
Possibly more importantly- How do I "use hostapidriver with it."??
Is it possible that I just need to include an entry in some config file or something similar? If so what file is it and what is the syntax and/or procedure?
Again please be gentle with my ignorance, and if you can provide information or directions please make them plain and easy to follow assuming I know very little about driver installation etc.
Sincerely,
