I Received My 6000l!
« on: December 15, 2004, 06:14:00 pm »
Hi,

I received my 6000L today and I would have some really simple questions for you:

1)I've charged it until the charge light turns off. Is it normal the Zaurus doesn't indicate full charge in the system tool?

2)The USB cable that comes with the Zaurus only fits the cradle and not the Zaurus USB port, right?

3)the Zaurus cannot act as a USB mass device, right?

4)How can I get a console? Is it installed by default?

Thanks

The Z does not respond as a USB mass storage device.

If I recall correctly, console (terminal) is not installed by default. It is included on the CD in the zaurus box, along with a few other packages.

Sorry I cant answer the others as I dont have my Z in front of me and I've never used the death-star cradle. I found it easiest to connect to my linux server via wireless and download the terminal app from the local webserver. It installed in a snap, from there I could ftp around and grab other things.

2) is correct. We've all tried to plug this cable into our 6000L's on the first go. There's a great link somewhere around here that has information on where to find a cable that does this. I bought the replacement cable from Iriver which works like a champ.

You should be getting full charge out of your Zaurus, at least my Zaurus will indicate battery status pretty correctly.

Wow,

Great replies guys and quick, I love to see very thing- a new Z owner being helped into the ZUG community!

The only thing I can add to the above is that you may need to charge the battery for a full 24 hours before the icon properly reflects the exact charge.  There have been several C860 owners who have had a similar experience to what you are describing.  They overcame it by completely charging their battery and conditioning it before breaking into a normal charge/usage cycle.

In case you don't know, to condition your new Z 6000 battery completely charge it for 24 hours.  Then unplug your Zaurus from the wall and use it until the battery is completely depleted.  Then plug it back in and recharge it until it indicates it's completed the charging cycle, (you do NOT have to charge it for a full 24 hours this time.) Then repeat the process until you have done it 4 complete times.

At that point your battery applet should be accurate at all times.  To keep your battery operating at peak efficiency and your applet accurate make sure you completely deplete and then completely recharge your battery, leaving it to charge overnight at least and 24 hours if possible, once a month.

Welcome to the 6000L forum btw!

Be Safe,
