Conversion From Sl-5500
« on: December 07, 2004, 11:41:09 am »
Hi there,

Just ordered the SL-6000 and am currently a SL-5500 owner.  Can someone direct me to a conversion procedure, allowing me to keep my SL-5500 address book and calendar data?

Would I just install the Zaurus Desktop and save/restore using it?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi, Doug.

I just went through the same process. I synced to my desktop using Qtopia Desktop. I installed the 6k software, which detected the 5500 software and uninstalled it automatically. After the installation procedures was completed, the newly installed version of Qtopia Desktop still had my data in it. I sync'ed the 6k and was good to go.

Good luck with your new 6k! You'll love it.

For some reason I'm getting:

"This version of Qtopia Desktop does not match the version on your Zaurus".  I've tried re-installing Qtopia Desktop with the same result.  The version of this software is Qtopia Desktop v1.5.5 built April 8, 2003.

Any thoughts?

You may just copy all of the files from /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm/. This is exactly how I did it.

Sony PEGA -WL100, Netgear MA701 Wi-Fi

Hi macz,

If I only want to copy the address book entries from the old Zaurus, could I copy just these two files:
SLADRS.BOX
SLADRS.IDX

Thanks,
Doug

Conversion From Sl-5500

Good evening,

I did this to copy my calendar from my 5500 and I had a couple of notes I thought I'd share.

When I copied all of these files to my cf card (FAT formatted), all of the filenames were changed from all uppercase to all lower case.  None of the pim software seemed to like this.  I fixed the names and it still did't work...the owner and permissions were the same as the default files.  None of my information showed up until I rebooted.

Now that all of my addresses were in the 6000 I added a couple of new people.  The thing I can't figure out is why they won't display in the correct order....For some reason, 'Sten'  now shows up after'Zimmerman'  in ascending order.  I resorted the data by phone number and back....no dice.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Cort

Unfortunately none of these methods worked.

I manually synched the 5500 with the 6000 using the IR port, one by one.  It took over and hour but I got it done.  No looking back now.  So much for backwards compatibility though!
