Oz 3.5.2 Installed
« on: December 08, 2004, 01:15:43 am »
Well..

I -very carefully- flashed my z 5500 to oz 3.5.2 30/30 this morning around 10am.
Here it is 12 hours later and I havn't been able to install anything. - nothing, and I'm not trying to install anything exotic, i'm following the docs on these forums just to get konquerer running.

Nada.. zip-zero-nilch. I do have a 512 meg lexar sd card in /mnt/card which is ext2 fs.

Been reading the forums all day long - there are just way too many dependancies with this flavor of linux. The package manager is near useless as it won't resolve dependancies and  the Z hangs way too much.. I've had to cold start it several times today. Including taking out the battery - it all happens when trying to use the package manager files sort of try to install to SD but then the Z hangs and thats it. - sometimes I can restart opie, most times I have to shut the Z down completely.

Since these units are almost nearly identicle why isn't there a binaries repository ?

Please don't say rtfm, i'm a unix geek and a solaris/linux guy, this Z is about 2 steps from becoming chucked off my deck. This is way too much work to get a PDA functional.

Now OZ 3.5.2 itself is very nice, it recognized my Netgear MA701NA wireless card, its on the network, i can ping out from the Z and have been futzing around with command line ipk but I can't make this thing install.

I almost had frodo installed, but it crashed on a dependancy and the file won't execute.

Dead Z? Bad flash? OZ just way too experimental? - I appreciate all the work the OZ team has put into this replacement rom, their work is fantastic. but the roms a little empty.

Cheers all.. Onetrack

This might be useless, but try a reflash off freshly downloaded zimage and initrd.
Dl and install the "service pack" from the feed.
Best I got. might do the trick for you.

Thanks for the replies guys - Pedro I installed Hentges rom last night, and besides 2 little bugs I have. I think it almost should be the official rom

My Z is a lot happier now.

so only 2 little wierd quirks - dealing with wireless networking on my netgear ma701na, but i'll figure it out.

With Hentges rom and the SD install, I'm way ahead of where i was yesterday.

cheers,
One
