Installing To Sl5600
« on: December 10, 2004, 07:30:42 pm »
I'm not sure if I am braindead, or what ...

I am trying to install OpenZaurus 3.5.2 to a 5600.  Can't find any instructions that seem to make sense.  From the OpenZaurus download site I got the following files:

bootstrap-image.rootfs.img
gpe-image.rootfs.img
opie-image.rootfs.img
updater.sh
zImage

All links to instructions for installing to the 5600 seem to be dead links, and the only instructions at all that I can find refer to .jffs2 files, not .img files.

I'm kinda confused!  Can anyone give me a nidge int he right direction??

Thanks!

Well, I haven't tried 3.5.2 on my 5600 yet (I tried 3.5.1 a while back) but the files you need are:

   opie-image.rootfs.img (rename this to initrd.bin)
   updater.sh
   zImage

The opie image is the QT based GUI, gpe is xwindows based (I think). I think you'll have more luck with opie.

Good luck and report back on how well 3.5.2 works on the 5600!

Thanks guys!!! that was very helpful - I now have Opie up and running

Next problem .... with the Sharp ROM, the USB configured itself with advanced networking so that I could connect via the USB to the Internet through my Windoze machine.  I have no problem getting the two machines to talk, but Internet???  I would imagine that I will have to bridge the connection somehow .... just not sure how to proceed.  Perhaps I am going down the wrong road by hard coding the ips?

Any help would be much appreciated.  (Sorry, bit of a nix n00b)!!
