I Need Help Pleeeeeeeease......
« on: December 14, 2004, 07:37:20 am »
I am having issues getting OZ/Opie installed on my 5500.  I have been reading around the forum and trying different things, but I can not seem to get it working decently.  Last night was the closest I have gotten, I had a bunch of apps installed and mostl working....then the wireless network stopped working on it.

Here is what I have going on....if I am missing anything, or doing anything wrong please speak up:

:copy OZ/Opie and 64/0 to CF
   :insert SD and CF cards
   :flash the rom
   :reset and replace batt cover
   :remove CF and power on
   :go through startup screens
:copy /opt and /root to SD and make symlinks
:install aqpkg and install other software

please help me guys.....I have been waiting to get this zaurus for months, and now I cant seem to get it to work right.....

thanks

Why oh why? Why do people do this? Perhaps you can tell me why?

Anyway, with regard to your wireless network not working: what kind of wireless card? What type of connection? What are you connecting to? etc...

From my understanding it is to free up more memory...I got that from looking around the forum.....should I not be doing this?

D-Link Air connecting to a Belkin router with WEP.....but the connection was working beautifully then just stopped....it showed a connection and I was able to ping the hell out of my router but I could'nt get it to connect to the OZ feeds....or anything else either......

Moving /opt and /root wont free up more ram to work in but it would free up more space to install things on the internal flash.

I used to do this before I went to installing everything on my SD card, If you run out of space on the root filesystem you can remove packages installed there and re-install them on the SD card, Much safer as your Z will still be able to boot to opie without a SD card.

Much better to use "ipkg -d sd" and "ipkg-link" for any of the apps you install. . . OZ is very good at making all the apps you have installed on any media appear "automagically."

I can answer why some move /root to the SD card.  So you can reflash and not have to copy your data from your SD card, CF card or PC.

Ok...now I am leaving the /root and /opt directories on the zaurus....maybe it will give me more stability.....

But I think my wireless CF card is flaking out.....like most electronics if I hit it it works....maybe a cracked trace on the board....

Keep the good advice on setup coming.....I havent seen a good write up on how to do a good stable installation of OZ.

Thanks Guys
