Gpe 3.5.2 & Media Player
« Reply #15 on: March 11, 2005, 05:31:28 pm »
sorry I haven't got anything done...  mobo coming....

xmms doesn't need mplayer.  It can, it seems, treat mplayer as a kind of plug in.

That is really the thing.  What is needed imho is a single media player app (or guis on one
)that handles video and audio of as many possible formats, and does stuff like playlists, etc. xmms probably isn't best for this.  on my desktop, there is stuff that runs over xine, like totem, that works well.  Maybe we can poke around and sort this bit out before I try to make a bb file (which, knowing me will likely involve chewing paint off my office walls ) and get something in oe.
Totem was around for awhile (what was the companion gnome audio player..?)  maybe we should consider dusting that off, if progress was made?

If you can get your program run that far, I think your mplayer is fine.
What you need is to set the your LOGNAME to the one which Qt/Embedded belongs to.

I dont know
If you are using OZ 3.5.2, try "export LOGNAME=root" before running the mplayer.

Hope it helps.

xmms installs from the feeds, with a little help, but I still can't get it to work:
Code: [Select]
No Qt/Embedded server appears to be running.
If you want to use this program as a server, add the "-qws" command-line option.

Trying to run it as a server doesn't work either.  I didn't think it would work but this this thread does it should.  Is there something I'm missing?

If not what are my alternatives?  I've seen a few references to nmf but I haven't been able to find it anywhere (which makes sense if it's not in the feeds but why isn't it in the feeds?)

I used to have mplayer working from the command line when I was running tkc but I have no idea what I did to get that working.  I do know that simpily installing the mplayer ipk on gpe doesn't seem to be enough but not sure what else I need to do?

Thanks,
Dan
