Non-english Text. How?
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:55:24 pm »
I have no problem to read non-english text using windows or Suse9.1 (cyrillic, encoding cp 1251 )
I really want to know how to read it using Zaurus. I searched the forums but couldn't find any useful info.

Thanks,

If you want to read the text file, use opie-reader or justreader.

Well, the problem solved by installing cyrillic font...
Opera and text editors recognize it now.
The most diffical part was to find cyrillic font which works on SL-6000.

had some headache with cyrillic too, tried different font ipks, including the onse from narod.ru guy, but nothing worked good enough, especially rotation issues where terrible, but http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/docs-zaurus-co...s_0.5.0_arm.ipk
works just great

The cyrillic fonts are on the Cacko feed:

http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed/qtopia-cyrilli...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk
http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed/qtopia-cyrilli..._3.1x-1_arm.ipk

Don't know if you got the fonts from the feed.

Hope this helps.

Oh, you may also want to try the unifont package:

http://cacko.biz/cacko/feed/unifont_1.0-1_arm.ipk

For displaying bi-di and other characters.

I have installed the unifont package (I am using OZ 3.5.2), and cyrillic now displays properly in zbedic, but I still get those annoying blocks instead of cyrillic on the virtual keyboard.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

You need to find a font, which replaces helvetica font. Or select your installed Unifont as default in Launcher.

OK, selecting unifont as the launcher font has fixed the keyboard problem (I did try before, but it didn't seem to work), but the only unifonts I can find are size 16! I use sizes between 6 and 10 (prefferably 7)- 16 is stupid- especially for a 320x240 screen.

Anyone know where I can find a smaller unifont?

Thanks
Simon

That is the only unicode font that I know of for the Zaurus.  Perhaps someone else out there knows of another.

Cyrillic fonts in Cacko feed are unicode too, but they don't work anymore with latest OZ for some reason...
