Hi All

I know a lot of people are waiting for javaboy\'s latest kernel to get uploaded somewhere (myself included) for those who can\'t wait you can download one I have made. it includes the latest spectrum / orinoco drivers patched with the orinoco beta 0.14 patch to enable monitor mode and includes the premptive patches as per ced\'s instructions elsewhere. Works fine for me with a Drystone results of:

Microseconds 2.2
Dhrystones / second 462491.9
VAX MIPS 263.228

As useual use at your own risk and don\'t blame me if it doesn\'t work for you.

I have updated my server and there are now three packages:

Kernel A: Includes the Spectrum / Orinoco drvers and latest patches + remove Sharp logo screen.

Kernel B: As above but with pre-emptive patches and unlocks.

Kernel C: Both of the above + includes clock change patches.

As pointed out by ced (and confirmed on my own socket bluetooth card) the pre-emptive kernel stops the cards working so if you need bluetooth karnel A is for you.

Hey Guys

Can we just stick to trying to download the files I have made available NOT trying to wget etc my entire system. The server won\'t let you anyway but it annoys me and will result in me taking the system of line.

Now that tumnus has sorted out the bluetooth issue with the preemptif kernels (thanks tumnus) I have submitted the kernel for approval and therefore have taken the ftp version offline.

If enougth people ask I will do a preemptif + wireless kernel for the 750 as well and could do a wireless monitor only version for the 700

Can you let me know of your performance stats for your 760 kernel (normal, preemptif only, preemptif + clock change)? and I\'ll update my tutorial.

Results for my 760 kernel with premptif + clock fresh after reboot with tkc 2.51 rom.

Dhrystone 2.1
language c
50000000 runs

microseconds for one run 2.2
Dhrystone per second 462534.7
VAX MIPS rating = 263.253

I will do the other two tommorow as I\'m a bit bogged down at the moment but from memory the std was around 2.6 seconds for one run and I remember being surprised that the preemptif kernel without clock was much the same.

That\'s interesting, with the latest \'special\' kernel (pre-emptive + overclocking) on my SL-5600 I get:

Microseconds for one loop: 2.1
Dhrystones per second: 478194.3
VAX MIPS rating: 272.165

Which is marginally better than the SL-C760. I wonder if the Dhrystone Benchmark is really stress testing the Zaurus? Glancing at a white paper it might not be: http://ebenchmarks.com/download/ECLDhrysto...WhitePaper2.pdf .

on the 760 if you have set the CCCR register to 0x162 ( cat /proc/cccr_change) then you should have the following:

- memory -] 118Mhz
- run mode -] 472Mhz
- turbo mode -] 472Mhz
- PXBus -] 236Mhz

by default the CCCR register is set to 0x161 with:

- memory -] 100Mhz
- run mode -] 398Mhz
- turbo mode -] 398Mhz
- PXBus -] 199Mhz

the 750/760/860 should be faster than the SL-5600/C700 due to a double frequency of the bus...

yep 0x162 is correct for your device, your C760 should be overclocked with the above values.

like tummus has said the Dhrystone Benchmark is an old software from 1984...

I don\'t think we can use it to compare between devices but it\'s useful when you tweak your kernel.

The dhry21 binary as been compiled for normal ARM without XScale optimisation instructions. But I don\'t think it\'s going to make any difference for device comparison.

Hi Richard, I noticed the kernels are still there, I thought you were planning to take them offline or are you planning to replace them with a new set of kernels (C=preempt+spectrum/orinoco drivers+bluetooth, D=C+overclock)?
