That's due to a default config security bug that's been fixed.  It's not good practice to allow logins for root when the password is blank.  If you set the root password on your Zaurus (just run 'passwd' in a terminal window) then you'll be able to ssh in using that password.
OK thanks for the info! I thought it would be OK by setting the AllowRootLogin and AllowBlankPassword to true, but no...

Hi, all!

The C750 Kernel in tools.tar includes a bug which limits the / size to 45MB.
After I installed the C760 Kernel on my C750,  It seems to work good.
My C750's / size is 57MB now.

hine : this is something i did when i used RC3 but i reverted back when i flashed RC5 because it didn't work on my750.

Now, i'l tryinng to flash RC8. I putted updater.sh with mdpart and mdtweak (from the new installer on the first page of the post you point to) wih the files from pdaxrom rc8.

Yet i have no "option 4 : update the 750 kernel" i used to have in the modified installer.

Did you flash your kernel with the RC8 version of pdaxrom ?

UPDATE :

Oki, i tried with the 1.05 version, and it doesn't change anything. It must come from thhe installer. A bit down in he thread (page 2) Ashley deals with a specific installer for the 750 but the attachment isn't here anymore.

Does anyone have this file ? the new_installer-0.3.tar.gz ?

Sorry but i give up... the maintenancekernel flashing messed my Z so much that it needed  a nand restore ! Plus i was on my own as i've been kicked from #zaurus irc by someone (i won't say who, i don't like that sort of thing) who thought i was wrongto be worry about this precious and expensive tool that i use EVERY day for my studies, and especially tomorrow...

Dear hine, could you precise how you manage to modify your partition ?

Dear pdaxrom : could the maintenace kernel updating process be integrated in Katherin Official ?

Thanks !

Hi, Alan.

How to install RC8 into my C750.

On Linux PC(or your Z)
1: Extract tools.tar
    tar xvf tools.tar
2: Copy the C760 kernel on the C750 kernel.
    cp ./tools/kernel-c760/zImage.bin ./tools/kernel-c750/zImage.bin
3: Remake tools.tar
    mv tools.tar tools.tar.orig
    tar cvf tools.tar ./tools/
4: You will use this tools.tar to install RC8.

On Your C750
5: Boot Installer
6: Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "3 Fix Sharp loader NAND 64MB limit (SL-C760/C860 only)"
7: Reboot Installer
8: Change root partition size
Select "3 NAND Flash Utils" -> "1 Resize root partition"
    Input "57"
9: Reboot Installer
10: Install RC8
    Select "1 Install new ROM"

Yeah ! Hine, you rock !!!!

Only 78% used space after a flash !
The only strange things that happened was the z not automatically rebooting during installation, but i guess it's not important.

Is there a way to upgrade the ROM without having to re-install from scratch? I don't want to have to back-up the data and re-install all the programs I have again.

Thanks.

I'm sure you do this too --
but I tend to install larger programs like gimp, firefox, gcc, etc...
to sd, that way, when I reflash, those are still there.
Of course, this doesn't matter when so many apps get a
version update -- you need to upgrade them anyway.
