Your RC4-en looks good and everything works that I've tried so far. But I'm having a lot of lock-ups when trying to eject or insert the CF-card. I've tried 3 different cards and tried using the terminal with umount and it still locks up, you must soft reset to fix it. The RC2-de did not do this.(is it the same kernel?) I thought I would let you know and see if anyone else has this problem?

I really like that new installer!

Thanks

Greg
Hmm I'm not seeing any lock-ups here w/ my two SanDisk CF cards.

How are your cards partitioned?
What FS are you using on them (ext2 by chance?)

Are there any error messages after inserting the card in dmesg or logread?

The kernel is the same, however the auto-mount script for CF changed.
In any case you should not see any freezes as the script basically just handles
mount and umount operations.

Could you post a dd dump of a 128Mb or 64Mb CF card somewhere?

dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/cf/delme (wait for the out-of-space error)
rm /mnt/cf/delme
dd if=/dev/hda of=/mnt/card/hda.dd
gzip /mnt/card/hda.dd

My CF-cards have 1 single FAT16 partition.

I haven't been able to get a logread because everything stops.

I will copy and paste the tail of syslog here after a soft reset, and attach the dd dump.

It is my kodak card... don't laugh.

I will try again later

Since no one else has reported this problem it must be only my Z, or a screwed up flash. I will simply reflash the rom I was using and move on.

Thanks for all your help.

Hello all,

T4 final is out, grab it @ http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3...opie1.1.7.shtml
If you are running -RC4, there is no need to upgrade, as T4 and RC4 are nearly identical.
Just use http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/feeds/opie_1.1.8/ as opie feed (this is already the default for T4 final)

Happy flashing

/edit: Here are some screenshots taken directly after the installation: http://www.hentges.net/misc/zaurus_look.shtml

One question- is using CardFS required for the Hentges ROM's?  Or can I just flash initrd.bin and zImage as usual, and install applications from the feeds to Flash, RAM, and SD?

It isn't required.

However, for  openssh, mkfs and all the other small tools. I had to remove almost all  Opie apps from the initrd.bin and there isn't any free room left to speak of.

While you can choose not to use cardfs, it doesn't make much sense since a SD card
is basically required.

You won't have much fun with the barebone ROM and no SD card.

People w/o SD card (or a SD card < 32Mb) should use the official ROM for the best experience IMO.

Just a small note here to tell everyone that CoreDump's T5-Opie1.1.8 Rom has been working without any problems for 3 days on my Z...  my earlier CF-card problems are gone. I would recommend this rom to anyone with a 5500 to use, and highly recommend it to a newbie using OZ for the first time! I might add that it now comes with opie-tinykate (and much more) preinstalled which is a feature that I find very useful.

Thanks

Greg

Hi CoreDump,

Still very impressed with the cardfs implementation.  Just a couple of problems since moving to opie 1.1.8 that weren't there in 1.1.7.  Opie Eye bombs out on a SIGSEGV when you try to change from camera to Dir view, and Tetrix doesn't always remove the blocks from the screen on a complete line, even though it 'knows' they are gone ie you can put another block in it's place.

Starting opie-eye from the command line gives the following when changing from camera to dir view:

Code: [Select]
: QuickLauncher invoked as: opie-eye
: mainwindow constructor done
: ===
: PIconView::polish()
: ====
: WARNING:   StartPath2
Segmentation fault

Not sure whether these are app problems or opie problems, tbh.  Not hugely important in the grand scheme of things but i thought that the tetrix issue might be indicative of general refresh problems.  Haven't found any other example of it though.

On another matter, do you have any idea whether the opie login screen has been dropped altogether?

Thanks,

Harry.

Application problems happen all the time.
A lot of the problems in 1.1.8 are already fixed in CVS and will be included
into the next Opie release.

We'll have to sit this one out, I'd say. Once I get my scripts converted to the new
OZ directory structure, I'll see if it is possible to inlcude CVS versions into the next release.

Notz that I'm aware of. The 3.5.1 opie-login .ipk was broken due to faulty packaging. The packaging was fixed for 3.5.2. I didn't try opie-login since Opie 1.1.6 so I really don't know its current status. However, I do remember some problems w/ it in the early stages of cardfs which was the reason it wasn't included.

If it is missing from the 1.1.8 feed for some reason, I can upload it later.

Thanks for the info.  I know it's not specifically your area.

By the way, a work around for the Dir View issue (if anyone only uses dir view in opie-eye) is to edit /root/Settings/opie-eye.conf.

Change

Code: [Select]
[main]
Last View = Digital Camera

to

Code: [Select]
[main]
Last View = Dir View

and start the app again.
Unfortunately, if you change off Dir View and then try to change back, it crashes as before.

Regards,

Harry.

You could try to install the 1.1.7 .ipk and see if it helps.
The differences between 1.1.8 and 1.1.7 ain't that big, it might just work

@mahoro

Your installation is somehow broken.
Knights and portabase are suposed to run w/o problems.
prboom requires a doom1 or doom2 .wad file to run which i can not include
into the ROM for legal reasons.

Please do a new clean install.
