I am looking into cases...

Does anyone know of any hard covered cases for the Z.  I have a 5500.  Also I was wondering if anyone has ever seen any sort of cradle that could be used in the car.. I would like to plug my Z in, in the car to listen to MP3s if possible but it would be nice if it was mounted nicely somehow.

Any ideas would be appreciated..

As far as hard cases go haven\'t seen any.

As far as car mounting check out this post on the Sharp forums.

Hello

I looked.. and looked and finally found a company (Piel Frama) that makes custom leather cases w/belt clip for the SL-5500.  The are VERY nice cases made from hand tooled leather.  I had to order mine from the WWW site posted below.  At the time they were only available direct from the manufacturer.  It did arrive in 3 days though!  Recently during my web searches I seem to recall seeing the cases being offered by a distributer in the US.  You might want to do a search before ordering from Spain   Here is the web link for the company Piel Frama.

I have a piel frama case for my 5500 and it is REALLY nice.  I wish they made a case for the 760.  I would recommend to anyone who\'s interested in a 5x00 case to get one of theirs.  The only complaint that I\'ve seen from people on the boards is the higher cost of the piel frama cases.  I think they are worth every cent.

Regarding the hard case - rino skin makes cases.  I just went to their website, and it seems to have changed a bit.  You could probably find a universal style hard case that would fit a 5500.  I don\'t think they have a case made specifically for the Zaurus though.

good luck!

I picked up a Sumdex leather case at OfficeMax for about $25-$30. It fits both the 5500 and my 750. It also comes with a combo pen/stylus.

Does anyone know if the Piel Frama case will fit the 5600?  I know they are pretty close in dimensions, but Piel Frama won\'t commit to it working with the 5600.

As far as car mounts go, the zaurus cradle makes a really good one if it can be fixed in a suitable location.

I have a UKk Ford Focus, and I took out the ash tray, which just happens to be exactly the same size as the base of the 5500 cradle, I couldn\'t have wished for a better fit.  it is tight enough to not need any extra suport, or velcro.

It also happens to be just above the cig lighter socket, so power is nearby.

First off, dismantle the cradle, remove the usb wire by unplugging the connector, keep it in case you need to use it again later.  I wirelessly sync, so don\'t need it.

Find an old 5 volt phone charger that plugs into cigarette lighter socket.  Cut off the plug and solder on a zaurus style power plug, being extra careful to et the polarity correct.

Attach this to the back of the cradle, attach a zthin serial cable to the serial breakout on the back of the cradle. The little plastic lugs on the zthin cable have to be removed with a sharp knife so it will fit.

If you remove the ford double size radio, there is ample space to route the serial cable and power cable behind it, and ample space to work.

Route the serial cable to the glovebox which houses the gps device, an external antena comes from this and magnetically attaches to the roof.

Now insert the cradle into the hole left by the ashtray (making sure Saddam isn\'t already in there, he does like holes   )

nozcar1.jpg is the cradle in the ashtray with all cables connected, you can see the power cable in the cig lighter socket, but the gps cable is hidden.

zcar1.jpg is the zaurus in the cradle running qpegps.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pssmith/

The main beauty of this, is you just whack the zaurus into the cradle and it coneects to the power and gps, without any further messing with wires as they are attached to the rear of the cradle.

Tested as stable by driving over speed ramps (in empty private car park incase any plod are reading this) at 40mph and the zaurus stayed put and carried on telling me where I was.

Optionaly paint the zaurus black to match the dashboard (and car) colour.

Selling the car? no problem, just remove the cables and re-insert the ash tray and no one will ever know, just make sure you buy another black car with a \"zaurus cradle sized ash tray\" other wise black zaurus will no longer match, and cradle will no longer fit.

Any recommendations for a reasonable case that accomodates the bulge in the 5600?

I\'ve been using one of these for over 2 months now, works fine and the price is right.

Greg, that looks a lot like the holder I\'m using now.    Actually, I\'m more interested in finding a  flip-open style case that allows me to use the 5600 without having to remove it.  So far, none of the \"generic\" cases I\'ve tried fit very well.

I have been using a hip pack to carry my Z, Targus keyboard, AC and auto charger, earphones and extra styli.
But I would like to find something with a little more room, and padding for the Z.

I have been checking out camera and CD player cases, but haven\'t found one with the room. Anyone have any ideas?
God Bless
