General Discussion / Help with networking

Hi all,

Good to see the forum back up.
Wonder if anyone can help.
I am trying to share my iPhone connection to the z via bluetooth.
It pairs and connects fine and the blue highlight shows on the iPhone
to say that a shared connection is active.

I have created a new connection to bnep0 and added
route add default gw.

Still cannot connect using the mail app or web browser.
If I try and ping a connection the console just stalls.

I have tried all combinations of using the network application
and connection via console or the bluetooth guy with exactly the same
result.

It would be great to get this working as it would mean i could use my
zaurus again.

thanks in advance

Anyone still alive here?  I got my zaurus back out and I finally got wpa working on cacko 1.23 lite on my SL-C3000 so it will hopefully have some new utility.  I can't believe that zaurus has less attention and support these days than my 25 year old Atari computers

Hi ,

love to know how you got wpa working.Any info?

Unfortunately it will not be  happy new year as no one posts  anymore.

Also most of the links above now no longer work.

Is there anyone there?

Security and Networking / Bluetooth Internet
« on: December 26, 2012, 03:53:18 pm »
Hi,

I dont know if there is anyone to answer this as it is very quiet around here.

Have been struggling with this for ages. I can no longer use my wireless card

as most systems seem to be using wpa and I do not have a card for this.

Thinking that i could use bluetooth sharing from my iMac I have tried to set this

up using the various instructions available i.e. Bluetooth PAN setup.  I can connect fine

and set up a gateway to the mac and config bnep0. Sometimes I can even ping mac and

vice versa. I can even see from the Mac console that Internet sharing is fired up when I

connect. What I can't achieve however is to browse the internet from the Z ( c860)Cacko.

Have tried every version of ip and gateway I can think of and am now stuck.

If there is anyone out there with some info I would appreciate any suggestions.

Many Thanks,

keef

General Discussion / Nasty Blip In Audio

The blip may be recorded in the tracks. Copy a few tracks to your desktop computer and open one mp3 with an audio editor program that lets you edit the waveform.
There is probably a "spike" at the end of the audio file. Just use the option to fade to silence, or just manually silence the "spike". I had to do this to a lot of my karaoke mp3 files.

Hi,

I have tried your suggestion but cannot see any spike in the tracks - hey are all straight from commercial cd or itunes.
Thanks for the reply.

General Discussion / Want To Use My Sl-c1000, Any Ideas?

My typical use would be as an e-book reader (PDFs mostly), movies, and web browsing.  However, something I would really like to use it for is to manage a home control, monitoring, and security systems.  Would be a nice device to control lighting, temp, and access security cameras.  Really would like to get back into tinkering around again.
My suggestion is that you would install some broader distro, Debian or Zubuntu for example. I have Debian on my 3100,
more than 29 000 programs to choose from. Then just do some googling, linux home automation.

I use my Z as a gps device, calculator(!), take  notes, music player and when travelling, as web surfing platform, and whatever
possible with tiny display and keyboard. That is a lot

Openbox makes X quite responsive, other light dm:s are available too. Many pdf readers also, xpdf lightweight.

Hi- How do you use your z as a Gps device?

General Discussion / Nasty Blip In Audio

Hi all,

I am using my Z to play mp3 tracks which it does reasonably well.
only problem is that at the end of each track there is an audio
blip where it stops playing and then starts the next track.
Just wondered if anyone else had encountered this and knew
of a solution. I am using the stock audio  player, kino and
Quasar media player all seem to do the same.

Cheers,

Hi All,

I would like to improve the security of my Z when on a wireless network.
I find that the Z appears on the desktop of Mac computers on the
same network just as any ordinary disk. Is there a way to password protect
the files? I.e. to make a secure login from other computers.

thanks

I think you'll find it is to do with samba. Do a forum search and you'll find the info. From a good many years back...

"md5sum /lib/modules.rom/2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix/kernel/drivers/block/sharp_mmcsd_m.o" will give you the md5 of your module.

Hi,

Ok it is different: aa56b369c30228a49ddc3dd29eed6b6f

looks like I will have to follow advise from cybersphinx and reflash and try and grab the module.

I got the impression from various threads that this driver would install ok under cacko but maybe not.

Hi, just checked system info and this is the same module I have installed and yet the new update will still not install.
I have never known system info to give an md5 of the modules. Same name does not mean it is the same module. Did you verify that your module has the same md5?

It looks like the ipk for this module on the cxx0 Zaurus needs to actually compile and link the driver when it is installed whereas on the cxx00 it just has a precompiled module and installs just that. Kind of strange.

Hi, not sure what an Md5 is!

Here is the info:
