General Discussion / Shirtpocket Troubles?
« on: July 05, 2005, 06:59:18 pm »
I ordered one of the C-860 custom car mounts from Shirt Pocket about a week ago.  I got a prompt order confirmation and the mount arrived today in perfect shape.  From my experience, Shirt Pocket's Baaccckkk !

For those of you looking for an awesome many-purpose mount for Zaurii C-*** series (mine's an 860) you really ought to look at this thing.  Beautifully manufactured and fits the Zaurus like a charm.  The photos on their site really don't do it justice.

I use mine in my C-860 all the time and it works just fine.  Slower than my Hitachi 4GB units, so I just use it for audiobooks and such like.  Not fast enough for movies without "glitching".  Otherwise it's been quite stable and usable.

Sharp ROMs / Wifi Problem
« on: March 08, 2005, 07:05:23 pm »
If you have your network wireless profile set to SSID= Any, it won't work with 1.22 Cacko.  You must have a profile for each wireless SSID network.  Pain in the neck of course.  I installed Kismet (though Wellenreiter works as well) to tell me what the SSID's I come across are, then I make up a profile for them.  Clumsy, but it works.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.22a And Wifi Function

I have the same issue with "Any" not working.  I installed Kismet from the feed and it works just dandy for finding those SSID's.  I couldn't get Wellenreiter working either, but Kismet is nice and simple.

For Sale / Wanted / Wtb: 5500 Frosted Screen Cover

I've got a brand new one, still in the package that I'd be glad to send your way.  You can reach me at shafferb1 comcast net (same instructions as your post) and we'll work something out.  I had gotten this for my 5600 not thinking about it being frosted and just never used it.  Sold the 5600 a long time back, but I've still got the cover sitting here to go to a good home.

Now THAT was very helpful !  I never cease to be amazed at how you can search the forums and find answers to just about every question I've come up with so far.  Works like a charm !  Thanks !

Thanks rehorrericha, I'll give this a try and report back.  I got all excited when I saw that you got it working with "no tweaks".  I guess I need to bone up on my nomenclature, this sure looks like a lot of tweaks to me !

Sharp ROMs / Ok, No More Major Issues In Cacko 1.22?
« on: January 15, 2005, 06:26:29 pm »
Maslovsky et al.

The only couple of "issues" I've noticed and things that might need a bit of attention would be:

1).  It would be nice to not have to specify an SSID when connecting to wireless networks.  When I'm in local "hotspots", I obviously don't always know what they are.  If we could get the "Any" function to work, that'd be great.

2).  The only other "weirdness" I've noticed is that KINO doesn't seem to release the CPU when you exit it.  The processor utilization stays pegged at 100% and will remain that way until the C-860 is rebooted.  The other apps doesn't seem to have this effect.  This may be false reporting of course, but it does appear quite consistent.  Doesn't running the processor at max use up the battery power more quickly ?

That's about it for me.  This thing is a work of art and the fact that these things are all I can come up with is testament to the success of all the hard work you and the other contributors have done on our behalf.  Thanks again !

Man, I'd love to get some instructions from you on how you got this working with 1.22 Cacko.  I've tried everything I know and can't get it going.  I do have my Socket card working fine with my Motorola Timeport 270C, but no joy from the AirCable, which I'd greatly prefer to use.  Much better battery life with it and still have my other cards (typically I have a 4Gb drive card and a 1 Gb SD card) that are in it all the time.

I'd really appreciate some step-by-step how to's if you've got a minute.

Couple of hints from another user of the D-Link:

1).  Make sure connection is NOT set to automatic
2).  Make sure the you enter the SSID of the network you're trying to connect to

That fixed all of the problems for me at least.  Not sure why Step #2 is necessary, but guess is that Maslovsky will put some thought into it once his brain settles back down from producing this great masterpiece for us.

Maslovsky:

All of us out here are so grateful (and perhaps somewhat envious of your skills) for what you've put together for all of us.  I just can't believe how great this new ROM is !  You've really LISTENED to the feedback from us folks and taken your time, effort, and many skills to generate something that improves the Zaurus part of our lives.  The front-end of this thing is flat-out gorgeous and the new, improved apps are wonderful.  Congrats on the new calculator app, it's awesome.  Sharp oughta hire you and pay you the "big bucks" to take this thing of their's worldwide.  Something they seem to be incapable of doing.

I'm one of those folk who had lots of concerns about the ability to play videos.  Spend a lot of time on planes, trains, and such like, that this has become a principal part of what I use my C-860 for.  Your new version of Kino2 is just awesome.  Doesn't perfectly play some of my stuff, but my MPG movies are fantastic, and the control you've allowed us is something that other "programmers" can see and just weep at their own inadequacy.  I've never been a fan of Kino (preferring tkcVideo) but quite frankly your new Kino2 blows their stuff into the weeds.  I just uninstalled tkcVideo for the LAST time.

Synch'd perfectly with my Outlook and email.  This is just simply an awesome effort on your part (and those who worked with you, Kudos to them as well !@!).  You have once again (not for the first time, and I suspect not for the last), "raised the bar" of the Zaurus community.  Don't know rightly what else to say but a rousing Thank You !

If you should ever find your way to the U.S., I expect that there'd be a host of folks, myself included, that would happily put you up and treat you like the toast of the town.  Serious about that, if that can happen, please feel free to contact me, or (I expect) damn near anybody else out here.  I'd feel like I was hosting a freakin' rock star !

I'm proud to be using the stuff you wrote.

I've said it before, and proudly say it again..... You're A Freakin' Genius !!!!

Turned off the autoconnect check box and wireless card fired up and worked like a charm.  I'm a bit embarassed, I should've tried that myself.

Now I can just kick back and really enjoy looking over all this great stuff you've provided us with.  Thanks so much.

Same problems as a bunch of other folks have re: wireless connectivity.  I've got a D-Link DCF-660W.  Originally it came up recognized as a Zcomax, but I used pelrun's hints and commented out the Zcomax stuff.  Now it recognizes the card as a D-Link DRC-660.  Editing hostap_cs.conf show that this should be the proper card (I think ?) as it references the DCF-660W.  Lights come on and it appears to attempt to make the connection, but fails every time.

My wireless lan does not use WEP or MAC authentication, and I do broadcast my SSID.  Very very generic (I live way out in the sticks so security isn't much of an issue, cows don't have computers......yet).

Gorgeous new ROM though Maslovsky, much improved in every way.  Welll, except for this "minor" issue though.  Kino2 is waaaay cool and the icon work you did is awesome.  Thanks for the great New Year's present.

Cxx0 General discussions / Help !! I May Have Bricked My C-860

OK, it's back, running Cacko 1.21b.  Thanks Iamasmith for the suggestion.  What I found that worked was to :
1).  Remove battery completely
2).  Hold down FN D M and then plug in AC power

Came up in the service menu and I could restore the NAND from cacko.
