5x00 General discussions / The Kompany Rom - Rotate?
« on: April 28, 2004, 10:17:51 am »
When I downloaded theKompany ROM v1.1, I also downloaded applications-tkrom1.1-sl5600.tar.gz. This tar file contained a rotation IPK qtopia-rotation_1.5.0_arm.ipk. Installing that package added Rotate to my Q-menu (it did not add a rotation icon to one of the tabs). I don\'t know if this will work the same for 2.0, but it\'s working for me.

Back to the WinSCP3 comment. I just discovered that the tkcROM has samba server built in. So, when i have the Z attached via USB, and I\'m using TCP/IP over USB, then I can just map a drive to <ip-add-of-zaurus>. Then I have access to the SD and CF cards on my Windows desktop.

As for Internet connection. I haven\'t figure out how to do that on Windows 2000 via USB. However my laptop has a wired and wireless connection, and I have wireless for the Z. So, when I\'m using the laptop wired, I setup internet connection sharing with the wireless card and my Z can use that to get to the Internet.

5x00 General discussions / 5600 processor question
« on: April 06, 2004, 02:34:03 pm »
I just got the 5600 last month. Yes, they are selling it cheap because the 6000 is just released. However, I find most of the stuff on this site, and a lot of other Z sites is still talking about the 5500. So I guess it depends on how cutting edge you want to be.

If you have the Sharp ROM (or compatible) you just put the Z in the cradle, load the PC software off the CD onto you Windows box and run Zaurus File Transfer. Personally, I installed theKompany ROM 1.0 which comes with SSH server. So, I use a graphical windows programd (WinSCP3) to transfer files via the network. You can setup the network either with a network interface on your Z, or you can change the cradle link from default USB to USB - TCP/IP. You have to change it in both the Zaurus Manager (PC application) and on the Z (PC Link).

Sharp ROMs / Network Connection Icon
« on: March 31, 2004, 07:22:01 pm »
The tkcrom uses the SubApplet package. This adds a second (hidden) taskbar that you access using the up arrows icon on the main taskbar. They located the network connection icon there.

Sharp ROMs / theKompany ROM and system info app
« on: March 23, 2004, 04:55:21 pm »
OK, maybe not. I had tried installing the package opie-sysinfo also. That failed and the error suggested I check depenedancies. That\'s how I came to install libopie1 and get it working. I noticed that my failed install of opie-sysinfo was still listed as installed, so to clean things up, I removed it. That broke sysinfo again. So, maybe it\'s not the libopie that\'s missing, maybe it\'s something else, and installing opie-sysinfo (errors and all) fixes it. I don\'t really know, but did an ipkg remove/install on opie-sysinfo and things are working again. I\'m going to leave it alone this time.

Sharp ROMs / theKompany ROM and system info app

Never mind. I read that this ROM replaced the standard system info with Opie Sysinfo. So, I installed libopie1 and it now works. Seems like that should be part of the ROM itself, but don\'t look a free ROM in the mouth.

I have gone from the standard Sharp ROM to the Zenergy5600 ROM and now to theKompany ROM. I like everything about it so far, except that the System Info application does not work. When I tap it, the icon changes to the \"you\'ve tapped me\" version, an hourglass appears in the taskbar and then it goes away. After that nothing happens.

I have a SL5600 with a 512MB SD card and a 1GB CF hard drive installed. I haven\'t added any software except fdisk and VNC server.

General Discussion / Lauching scripts/commands from the GUI
« on: March 12, 2004, 08:03:40 pm »
Thanks for the info. I did a search and didn\'t come up with anything. I guess I\'m learning my way around the site as well as around the Z.

General Discussion / Lauching scripts/commands from the GUI
« on: March 12, 2004, 05:28:46 pm »
I would like to be able to lauch scripts or command from the GUI. For example \"/usr/bin/ssh -F myconfig\". So, I go to the Tab Settings app and add a new application. I put in the name and select an icon, but when I put the command in under Program, it says it does not exist. If I click on the \"...\" to browse the list of programs, ssh is not listed. If I can\'t use the full path to add in a program, how do I get it registered so I can pick it off of the list?
