General Discussion / My Display Died!
« on: June 21, 2006, 06:00:39 pm »
I fixed it! I opened the display panel, turned on the power, and wiggled the display connectors (the paper-thin wires that run across the back of the display). Once the display returned, I pressed them down and replaced the display panel. I hope it doesn't go out again, but for the moment it is working again.
Thanks for the suggestion to try checking the display connector. I probably would have hesistated before opening the display panel, but it was a rather simple operation.

Yes. I tried the hard reset--took out the battery and disconnected the AC. I still have the white screen after I power on. After a minute, I hear the beep when it launches qpe, but the screen is still solid white.
I'm going to try opening it up and look inside to see if I can find where the display connector is located...

General Discussion / My Display Died!

I have had my SL-C760 for about 3 years now. The other day, I turned it on and the display appears to be dead. It displays a solid white screen. It still works, and I can launch programs blind by using the keylauncher commands, and it does still beep when I use the stylus. It appears as if something hardware-related broke rendering the display inoperable.
I have tried everything, including trying to call up the diagnostics menu, but even the diagnostics screen appears as all white with no text. If I could, I would try to re-flash it, but I'm not sure I can do this blind. Moreover, I think this is clearly a hardware (not software) malfunction. Does this mean my Zaurus is dead?

The Z can't even run GBA games at a playable speed. I woundn't hold my breath for a DS emulator.

General Discussion / I Mounted A 2 Gig Sd Card!
« on: January 25, 2006, 07:28:21 pm »
I noticed the same problem. Mine is formated FAT16. I determined that the problem was related to fastload applications on the SD card, which made it so that the SD card could not be unmounted during a suspend (the disk is in use error prevents the successful unmount). My calendar app and zten (which accessed dictionaries on the SD card) were set to fastload. Once I turned off fastload for these, I did not have the suspend/resume problem anymore.
If DrWowe was able to fix this by editing the sdiomgr script, could he post his edited script here? I would like to test it on my system.

Horray! I'm now using my Transcend 2GB SD card. Thanks for making this discovery!

I no longer have the ipkg, but I have attached the binary file here. Just place it in your /home/QtPalmtop/bin directory, and it should work fine.

General Discussion / Any News For The Next Zaurus?
« on: October 26, 2005, 01:11:06 am »
The WPC2005 EXPO opened several hours ago here in Tokyo. Although this was the venue where Sharp anounced a new Zaurus model last year, it does not appear that there will be any new Zaurus announcements.
Instead, the center of attention at the Sharp booth appears to be W-ZERO3 PDA/Phone discussed above. Since the sales of the SL-C3100 have remained strong in Japan, I doubt that we'll see a new Zaurus model for some time. Unfortunately, it now appears that Sharp is concentrating its efforts in the mobile phone/PDA area.

Can anyone positively confirm if 2gb MMC or MMCPlus cards work on any model Zaurus?

Mac Issues / Print From Your Zaurus Through Your Mac!
« on: October 01, 2005, 09:10:36 am »
I have been successful printing files from my Zaurus via the Mac. I have Printer Sharing turned on in the System Preferences. You will need to use a program called "lprng" on the Zaurus. You can download the ipk here. By using "lpr" command in the console, I can send a postscript or Word document to print on the shared printer connected to my Mac over the LAN.
You may need to change some settings to get this to work. I did it some time ago. It was more fun getting it to work than it was actually useful to print documents. Textmaker's print command supports lprng, but I had problems getting it to work smoothly.

Can you post some example feeds that don't work for you?

The podcast for Nightline, which I posted earlier doesn't work. It appears to download the file, but no file is saved in the /home/zaurus/Corsair/shows directory.

The downloads are working again. Many thanks!
As I have begun to use the program more often, I have noticed one other small bug: the program quits after refreshing the feeds (selecting the refresh button).
I'm sure some would like to be able to specify the directory where it stores feeds/podcasts, but I was able to do this by creating a symbolic link from the /home/zaurus/Corsair/shows to my SD card.

Accessories / 2gb Sd Card On An Sl-c860
« on: September 27, 2005, 10:21:42 pm »
Add the Transcend 2 GB SD Card to the list of SD cards not supported by the Zaurus. Based on what is posted here, it appears that the SD driver for the Zaurus does not support cards greater than 1GB.
Although there has been some dicussion that a different ROM or Linux kernel might have an updated SD driver, I have seen no evidence that such a thing exists.
Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts about how or when 2GB SD card support will become a reality?

I don't believe that it is related to a particular RSS since I experience this with all of my podcasts feeds, which worked in the original 0.2.0 version. For the record, these are some podcasts that I have tried:

<outline text="Battlestar Galactica"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/downloads/podcast/podcast.xml"/>
      <outline text="this WEEK in TECH"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://leo.am/podcasts/twit"/>
      <outline text="On The Media from NPR/WNYC"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://www.onthemedia.org/index.xml"/>
      <outline text="ABC News Nightline"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://abcnews.go.com/xmldata/xmlPodcast?id=868748"/>
      <outline text="NBC News - Meet the Press"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://podcast.msnbc.com/audio/podcast/MSNBC-MTP.xml"/>
      <outline text="The Al Franken Show"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://www.sundancechannel.com/al/podcast.php"/>
      <outline text="NewsHour with Jim Lehrer Podcast | PBS"  brokenXML="false"  xmlUrl="http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rss/podcast.xml"/>

I appreciate any assistance in determining the cause of the problem. It would be great if others could post their experiences using the new 0.2.2 version, especially those on SL-C7X and SL-C860.
In the meanwhile, I switched back to the old 0.2.0 version and patched in the pic files from the 0.2.2. It now displays correctly and can download, but I'm still stuck without being able to play the podcasts from within Corsair.
I can also quit by tapping the top-right (X), I was just looking for a non-stylus solution for quitting the application. Thanks again.
