Windows Issues / Connecting Using Usb Cable
« on: January 15, 2005, 02:54:15 am »
This is a bit strange.  I have managed at times to get the PC to recognise the Zaurus.  It seems to me that it only does it when the battery is fully charged.

Also, on those times when the Zaurus has been connected successfully, Sync doesn't work.  It starts on the PC, and the Link program starts on the Zaurus, bot it bombs out straight away with the error  "PC Link Error Please confirm connection".  The worst part is that the Zaurus stays up if I configure it to work on Serial rather than USB.  I have a feeling that I could Sync if I use a serial adapter for my USB cradle.

I guess just one word of warning for whoever wants to buy this cable for a 5500.

Windows Issues / Connecting Using Usb Cable

Hello,

I recently bought a USBHotsync & Charge Cable for my SL5500.  The make of the cable is iPDA.  The Website I bought it from says that it is compatible with the  5500, although  the iPDA website doesn't (now I am starting to worry!).

When I plug it in to the PC, I get an unknown device error, and it doesn't recognise it.  I have tried re-installing the Intellisync software to no avail.  I have also tried updating the drivir from the PCSoft\USBDriver directory on the installation media, and it says that the directory does not contain information about my hardware  (!?).

Intellisync works with my cradle.  The battery on the Zaurus is being charged vith the USB cable... so something has to be working.

Any ideas as to what can I do?

I am using the Sharp Rom 3.13 and Windows XP.

Thanks!

General Discussion / MAME Errors

where did you get your libs from. Could you post your changes to the rc file?

Both libraries are in killefiz.

libSDL

zLib

as for the changes to the rc file, this is the only line that I modified... this is from memory because I don't have my Zaurus here with me at the moment... but just add your directory to the roms_directry line (perhaps the line says romspath).  So for intance if you have your roms on /mnt/cf/MAME/roms, you just add that followed by a ':' at the beginning of the line after the '=' sign!

General Discussion / MAME Errors

I just setup MaxMAME and is working well... (well... I am still having some issues with the keys, but I am sure I will fix those).  With MaxMAME you have to install libSDL and Zlib, by the sounds of it, you are missing a library.

Also, I had to modify the advmame.rc file to include the directory on my CF card where I had the roms.  It runs Ok from either root or zaurus from the CF card directly from the Konsole...

  I.e. ./MaxMAME zaxxon

Windows Issues / Wireless Sync
« on: September 06, 2004, 10:29:16 am »
Thanks,

I was actually counting on being able to use the Wireless network to fool Intellisync into using the Wireless link, as long as the uip address was reachable.  The problem is that  as far as I can tell, PC-Link needs to be up on the Zaurus as well, and I can not change that one.

The reason for Intellisync is that it can actually sync with Palm Desktop, which is what I need.`

V-Man, could you post a link to the Howto that you have, I could probable get something out of it.

Otherwise I will try the ZThinCable, although it is a bit pricy to order from Ireland €41 is the cheapest I have found so far!!!

Thanks

Software / qpmud binaries
« on: August 30, 2004, 06:51:43 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of the binaries for qpmud.  Sourceforge.net only has the sources, and I don't have an environment to compile them on.

Thanks!

Windows Issues / Wireless Sync
« on: August 30, 2004, 06:15:00 am »
Hello,

I am trying to sync my Zaurus 5500 to my Lotus Notes and Palm desktop at work, which is easy enough to do, however, for various different reasons, I don't want to bring my cradle in to the office all the time.

I believe IR is out of the question, but has anybody tried synching using a wireless CF card?  Is this possible even in theory or would I be wasting my time trying it?

  Any ideas are welcomed.

Software / I lost Opera... Help!!!
« on: August 25, 2004, 12:27:53 pm »
That did the trick thanks very much.

I also tried unpacking the opera_arm.ipk file and overwritting everything that was under home and usr within the file.  Opera 7.55 was then usable, but if you were to run it from the command line, a number of different error messages would pop up all the time.

I even downloaded 7.30 from here, and got the same error message

So I decided to go back to version 6, just to ensure that I can keep on browsing!

I see some references to Opera 7.xx working well on Zaurus with the Sharp ROM 3.13, I will update my ROM later on and see if that makes any difference

Check this post

Thanks

Software / I lost Opera... Help!!!
« on: August 25, 2004, 07:15:52 am »
Hello everybody,

While browsing the web yesterday, I came accross a reference to the new version of Opera on the Zaurus as distributed by IBM.  After spending some time looking through the forum posts and seeing that it works on the SL-5500 I went for it.  I extracted the opera_arm.ipk package and installed it, version 7.55 (posted on the 17th of July 2004)

To my surprise it didn't work, when running it from the command line an error message that simple reads:

Quote
"Bus Error"

I removed it and to my surprise Opera is gone!!!  (I know it isn't really but the end result is pretty much the same...

I rebooted, and reinstalled a couple of times without any success.

I know that the actual Opera code for version 6 is in /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/bin, but if I run it from there, it comes up without any images for the toolbar and a number of things don't work.

Anybody knows how to get it back no normal? Or to get 7.55 working?

I am really annoyed, because only a couple of days ago I finally got my Wireless card... I really use Opera now for surfing the web!!!

Thanks
Carlos

User Request for Applications / Kate/TinyKate
« on: August 24, 2004, 08:00:55 am »
For a while now, I have been rooting around trying to find a decent programming editor for the Zaurus. Sharp ROM.  I have an old version of TinyKate that appeared a while back and then was taken down which I think was fantastic, althouy

Later there was another one in the Opie feed for the Sharp ROM, but there were a couple of libraries missing so it wouldn't run, therefore it was taken down.

When I saw this post I tried VisiScript, which as an editor I think it is pretty good, but it is not really great if you are not running scripts.  I am doing some Java development that requires for me to make some changes on the fly (I am using jikes on the zaurus to compile), and the TKCEditor is pretty slow.

  All this just to ask:

a)  Do you know if there are any plans to recompile the missing libraries in Opie?
Do you know of any implementations of QScintilla for Zaurus apart from VisiScript, or whether VisiScript can be used in "editor mode" only?

Thanks

Software / Home key in SCUMMVM
« on: June 02, 2004, 05:01:43 am »
It may have been the actual game, as it was only the demo version of Indiana Jones that I was using to test scummvm.  When I got home, I copied the files for DOTT to my Zaurus and it works perfectly (including speech!!)  Home or m keys bring the save menu, although the way the menu works is a bit dodgy.

In any case, I also discovered that func-shift-m brings up the letter m when you are in the debug window, so that way you can also use the savegame command from the debug window to save your game, quite easily as well.

Thanks!

Software / Home key in SCUMMVM
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:16:04 pm »
Hello,

I am having some trouble with SCUMMVM.  I have it installed and working, sort of...  I have only tried with the Indiana Jones one,  and I really want it for DOTT and MM.  I can load the game and play it, but when it comes to save it, the home or m keys do not provide the expected result., actually nothing happens!

If I open the degugger (func-d), and then press either m or the hime key, and only a question mark  (\'?\') is displayed.

I am running on an SL5500, with Sharp ROM 3.1, libsdl 1.2.6cvs-1, libmad 0.14.2b-1 and scummvm 0.5.1-2 all downloaded through the www.killefis.de/zaurus links

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Carlos
