Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Cosmo Screen Protectors?

I appreciate your fast responses. I imagine the Cosmo, like the Gemini, will arrive with some kind of screen protector that could hold us in good stead until we figure out the actual screen dimensions. As an aside, I have a screen protector on my Gem and I've noticed that some keys have made a mark on the protector itself--I hope that doesn't continue with the Cosmo.

Jake

Yes, Cosmo has a screen protector. Key prints on Gemini even without a protector, though they do clean off. Can't see any key prints on Cosmo yet.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Home made delivery problem

Fellow Planetarians,
Is anybody else here waiting in New Zealand for their Cosmo?
I (stupidly) locked myself out of my Indiegogo account, and also (stupidly) closed what I think may be the associated contact email address.  I'm ashamed to admit that both incidents, whilst otherwise unrelated, probably involved beer.
So now it's dawned on me that I've got no tracking details and I'm expecting my Cosmo will be held at Auckland by the courier until I pay the import taxes, and I may not receive notification from the courier, unless I get a call or a card through the door rather than an email to nowhere.
I tried Indiegogo, I don't want to bother Planet when they've got their hands full, I thought I might contact the courier.  Does anyone know which courier they are using in NZ?
Thanks in advance,
MC

I wasn't contacted about the import at all. It arrived in Auckland and spent a few days lurking in customs then arrived on my doorstep - no duty payable - arrived on the 18th backer #24.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Launchers... From Worst to Best

NOVA Launcher

I used and liked the paid for "pro" version of Nova Launcher in my Gemini.

However, now I find it less than optimal on my Cosmo, such that I have reluctantly UNinstalled it.

What say you?

I use Nova on both the Gemini and the Cosmo. They both look and work identically.

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Bluetooth Watches

I have tried 2 different watches with the Cosmo, and I am having the same issue I had with the Gemini - which I never solved with the Gemini and had to carry a second device to sync the watch.

Whenever the Cosmo goes to sleep, the watch will eventually disconnect, thus getting no notifications. My first try was my Pebble. It worked fine with my Pixel 3 and Android 9 or 10. I did not work with the Gemini either. The Pebble App kept running at all times, but the Bluetooth connection would go away.

Since the Pebble was an older watch, I decided to try a new watch, so I purchased an Amazfit Bip. It also would disconnect, but for a different reason - the AmazFit would eventually get kicked out. I tried setting the app to "Not Battery Optimized", and Bluetooth to "Not Battery Optimized", but the app still gets killed.

So...I am ready to blame the AmazFit app for being improperly written to stay as a Foreground Process as the reason it is getting recycled, but:

1. Is there anyway to keep the Bluetooth connection alive when the device sleeps so I can use the Pebble?

2. Is there anyway to keep the AmazFit app from being recycled?

3.Has anyone had success with a smartwatch staying connected and receiving notifications when the Cosmo sleeps? It all works as long as I keep the Cosmo plugged in, as I have developer options setup to prevent the device from sleeping when it is plugged in.

I have run the Bip with the Gemini for eighteen months and now with the Cosmo for nearly a week - the connection is rock solid. Make sure you have Duraspeed turned OFF in the settings and the MiFit app not optimised and all should be good. Unless your Gemini/Cosmo/Bip has a fault.

Gemini PDA - Android / Assistant shortcuts not working
« on: May 21, 2018, 08:32:33 pm »
When I first got the Gemini, both the silver button and the Fn+Space shortcut, activated the Assistant. Somewhere along the line, they both stopped working. I can still call up the Assistant through Gemini Voice Assistant, just not the button or the keyboard shortcut. Quite willing to believe that I have misconfigured something, but what?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / All the keyboard layouts published so far

I just got a conformation that there won't be either Belgian keyboard because of insufficient uptake.
Belgian (Wallonian) is replaced with the French Azerty keyboard and Belgian (Flemish) will be US Qwerty.

The UK and US keyboard layouts have been finalised, notice the change of the enter-key on the US keyboard:

Thanks for your posts, notes added for both.

Although it is hard to see in the pics, there is no difference between the Enter key on the UK and US keyboards. To check this out for yourself, open the pictures in an editor and turn up the brightness.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Has mass production started?

According to a post on Gemini Planet on Facebook, the final production and assembly have been postponed to next Thursday, since the firmware required a last-minute fix and it is now being recompiled.

Varti

That post was on Tuesday 30th Jan and said that firmware was being compiled "today" and that production would start Thursday (1 February) i.e. THIS Thursday. There has not been a week's delay as implied by NEXT Thursday which would be the 8th February. Don't frighten people like that! :-)
Sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone  For some reason I'm used to say "next (day)" instead of "this", I never thought this to be wrong. I'm not a native English speaker, so please forgive me if sometimes I write something wrong, and feel free to highlight any error you find in my posts

Varti

No problems Varti - the English language has too many traps for any of us to avoid them all. This one is a usage convention - when we say "this Thursday" (or whatever day) it is actually shorthand for "Thursday this week" next Thursday would be "Thursday next week". Logically, you were quite right: if Thursday has not yet occurred this week then the next Thursday is, in fact, the one that falls in this week. But, never accuse the English language of being logical!

Janko was heard to say on a CES video that the Gemini will ship with Android only and the linux will be downloadable from the web for users to install.
Do you happen to remember which video? I have gone over the ones I can find and have not found him saying that.

Thanks.

https://youtu.be/zQLawxkYyug

Listen from 13:00, and particularly from 14:00

"and....people will be able to download it from the web and flash it in"

My take on what Janko was saying is that the Gemini will ship with Linux in ROM. However, the Debian build at ship time will be somewhat provisional, but users will be able to download updated versions from the web and "flash it in". If Debian was provided on MicroSD then it wouldn't make sense to talk about "flashing it in".

Before wikipedia decide to delete it as not significant!

Too late. Gone. (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion) I guess you have to be a little more dispassionate :-)
