Ubuntu / Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1 Upgraded To Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Armel

Hi,

To clarify....

Omegamoon has different versions available than the that was linked in first post here.

I have tried both of Omegamoons and they each have issues.

V1.0 has no working repo and V2.0 has suspend problem that locks up Zaurus and can't wake it up. This is why I wanted to try version from this thread, based upon Ubuntu 9.04.

Hope this is clear now.

Yeah... I also tried looking for the 9.04 images I used, but couldn't find them... btw, I think you can find the repos in the old ubuntu repositories:

Hi all....

I know it has been about 4 years since last post, but just in case anyone is still around.....

I just tried download link for the tarball in first post...but the download is no longer there....no big surprise, given the length of time...

Does anyone have this tarball and can provide a link to get it?

Want to try it on my 3200.....

Meanwhile, just tried using apt-get and I get error messages about not able to resolve 'repository.handhelds.org'.....assume that repo is no longer working?....

Any other options?

Thanks!

Mark

hehe... just took my old boxer for a ride... still works, it runs zubuntu and afair I got it from Omegamoon blog - it seems that the links there are still alive, try there...

Ubuntu / Zubuntu 2.0 Released

The image is intended for spitz devices (SL-C3000, SL-C3100 and SL-C3200) but after a quick check most seems to work on the Akita (SL-C1000) as well.

Any chance it will also work on a C7x0 device?

Thanks,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom And Kexec
« on: August 14, 2009, 04:28:55 pm »
Hi,
I was wondering if I could install pdaXrom on a partition on my SD card and boot it using the kexec rom, just like I'm doing with Zubuntu and Angstom.

Thanks,

At least on the C1000 it does not and exits with a segfault.

Same for C860

...boots in portrait mode...

Well, to solve this all I had to do was to remove
Code: [Select]
xrandr -o rightform ~/.xinitrc

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Rotation - Doesn't On Sl-c860

I suspect the /etc/zaurusd/... scripts aren't correct for the SL-Cxx0 models, and I don't know how to fix them (you could try taking them from Angstrom, I believe they work there).

Have you tried manually doing the rotation, eg:

Code: [Select]
xrander -o n
where 0 <= n <= 3?

I think the problem is with the X authorization. Run:

Code: [Select]
xhost +
this will enable free access to the X server.
Also, I don't remember, but I think the states were switched in /etc/zaurusd/scripts/zaurus-hinge.conf in my case state 0 is landscape and state 2 is portrait.

update:
After rebooting there was no problem with the authorization.

Ubuntu / Howto: Zubuntu Installation On Sl-c760

Hello, I am having trouble booting into Zubuntu on my c860. I installed the kernel from the omegamoon blog and extracted the zubuntu root fs onto a 2g sd card. But I can't figure out the contents of the kernel-cmdline file. What should the kernel-cmdline file contain? I tried using the kernel-cmdline mentioned in this guide but that would only return me to the bootmenu selection after selecting Zubuntu.

Please, if somebody can help me out here I would really appreciate it. Thank You.

I didn't have to edit anything for it to work. I just extracted the root fs (you can get the 9.04 one from here), and then the machine specific root addition (from here). And everything worked out of the box...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus.org Domain Expired

after you've got the rootfs, you simply take that, along with the kernel and installer programs and gnutar and put them, with the right names onto a flash card and do the power-on/OK installation procedure.

That sounds pretty easy...   where do I find the kernel, installer and gnutar? what are the right names? is there a chance that i'll brick my zaurus if I get it wrong?

thanks for your patience

There's an automated build tool which, in theory, allows you to create a complete installable from scratch on Koen's website

I tried that (here is the online image builder). But I don't know how to use that... what packages to choose... what is the base system... and after randomly choosing packages I get a rootfs.tar.bz2 file... but I don't know hot to continue from here...
I miss the ease of use of OZ...

Hi,

I wanted to reflash OZ yesterday and I found out that OpenZaurus.org domain expired. I eventually found the hentges mirror and was able to install from there...
Is there another way to connect to the openzaurus website?

Thanks,

The OpenZaurus project is dead and has been replaced by OpenEmbedded/Angstrom.

Oliver

first, thanks for the quick reply...
second, well... at the moment the Angstom project is not mature enough to replace it since for two weeks no I've been trying to find a simple way to install it and didn't find... whereas after 5 minutes search I could reflash the dead openzaurus... moreover my experience with the 2007.12 and 2008.1 was awful.

it would be a shame to see that project vanish from the net...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Apps How To
« on: July 18, 2008, 05:34:56 am »
gshray, congratulations on the new acquisition...

1) OpenZaurus has evolved into Angstrom now and it is not being maintained any longer (correct me if I'm wrong).
2) To install apps you need an internet connection to the zaurus, then you can use "ipkg" in the terminal. You might need to update the links for the feeds in "/etc/ipkg.conf" an alternative is the "Package Manager" under the "Settings" tab (but I don't recommend it).
3) You can also download the deb files to your pc and then transfer them to the zaurus on the SD or CF card. you can find them in the Feed Browser.

This is my /etc/ipkg.conf
Code: [Select]
# Must have one or more source entries of the form:
#
#   src
#
# and one or more destination entries of the form:
#
#   dest
#
# where and are identifiers that
# should match [a-zA-Z0-9._-]+, should be a
# URL that points to a directory containing a Familiar
# Packages file, and should be a directory
# that exists on the target system.

# Proxy Support
#option http_proxy http://proxy.tld:3128
#option ftp_proxy http://proxy.tld:3128
#option proxy_username
#option proxy_password

# Offline mode (for use in constructing flash images offline)
#option offline_root target

lists_dir ext /var/lib/ipkg

src/gz upgrades http://www.openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/upgrades
src/gz machine-upgrades http://www.openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/upgrades/machine/c7x0
src/gz machine http://www.openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/machine/c7x0
src/gz base http://www.openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/base
src/gz opie http://www.openzaurus.org/download/3.5.4.1/feed/opie

dest root /

It seems to work okay, before you try installing anything using ipkg do from the command line
Code: [Select]
ipkg update
Then if you want to install anything (in this case qpdf2 which is  a pdf viewer for OPIE),
Code: [Select]
ipkg install qpdf2

I hope this is helpful...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / File Transfering Thru Usb
« on: December 17, 2007, 11:16:08 am »

how would you transfer files from a windows pc to the zaurus? Ive gotten windows to recognize my zaurus as a ethernet gadget and used the linux.ini drivers but i have no idea how to actually transfer files.

You can use the ssh server on the zaurus side and winscp on windows side - this is fairly easy. IIRC you just need to set a password on the zaurus side (using passwd) - this is my favorite method.

Another alternative is to setup samba server and access it as a windows shared folder, this is a little bit more complicated and requires you to install the samba package and some tweaking of the samba conf file.

A third option is to use the zaurus as a usb drive, I don't like this option because it never worked properly for me (very slow mounts at best, didn't work at all at worst).

You can also setup an FTP server on the zaurus, or maybe setup an FTP server on the windows side and use wget on the zaurus side... Never tried those.

I hope this helps,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Compiling On Z - What Package For Includes
« on: May 15, 2007, 01:24:20 am »
I managed to configure native compilation by installing: gcc, gcc-symlinks, binutils, libc6-dev and make.
Then I was able to compile console applications natively.

You may want to search the forums for native compilation.
