Sharp ROMs / SL 5500 TCK ROM 2.0 Aplha 3 with Home on SD script
« on: August 15, 2004, 11:22:22 am »
I have been running with the /home on SD with alpha3 for several months, but have just found a little snag on my setup.

Case 1: boot with neither SD or CF card - works fine and uses standard ROM.

Case 2: boot with both SD and CF cards in  - works fine and uses /home on SD.

Case 3: boot with SD in but no CF fails.  It gets as far as the Kompany splash screen, stays for a while, drops to a Wait 5,4,3,2,1 prompt and then goes back to the Kompany splash screen and then repeats ad nauseam.

I am trying to debug what may be happening.  I have looked at rc.card. rc.sysinit - no clues.  I tried going to a Linux prompt by pressing / at the Wait prompt and entered:
Code: [Select]
survive -l 6 /sbin/launchas per /etc/inittab; but it just drops out the a Wait prompt after showing the splash screen for a while.

Any tips on how to debug would be appreciated.

The workaround for most search deficiencies is to go to Google advanced search, limit results to the ZUG URL, and use the Google search commands. You pick up results in how-to's etc. as well as in the forums, but that may often be a benefit.

Excellent suggestion!  This has helped me a lot.  A proper on-forum solution would still be welcome, though.

Are we using the best BB software?  Sites that I use with phpBB seem much better.

And it seems to me that the search ORs the keywords rather than ANDing them; which is not at all what you want to do to refine a search.

Software / what PIM on Z syncs with Qtopia Desktop on Linux?
« on: July 27, 2004, 03:29:30 am »
Simon

Thanks for that info, not quite there yet though.

My Security app has nothing about IP Sync ranges, just the main passcode.  Which ROM are you using?

or am I just too dumb to figure out how to get into it?

Software / what PIM on Z syncs with Qtopia Desktop on Linux?
« on: July 25, 2004, 03:31:23 pm »
This ought to be a really simple one, but I couldn't find an answer here or elsewhere.

I have an SL-5500 that is set up with a wireless connection to the LAN - all works fine.

I have installed Qtopia Desktop on my Linux box and I want to sync with the PIM on the Z.  I have the standard Sharp PIM installed with tkcROM and I don't think that this wants to sync other than with the cradle, which I don't want to use.

There must be a Qtopia PIM for the Z that will talk to the Linux Qtopia Desltop over wireless LAN, mustn't there?

I will change ROMs if necessary, but don't want to lose Opera.

Any ideas?

I also have the message \"check backup battery!\" in dmesg.

But how do I go about checking the backup battery?

I get permission errors when trying to upload my own avatar as well.

Any chance of fixing this?

Sharp ROMs / How do I get /home on SD working with tkcrom 1.0
« on: January 18, 2004, 08:48:50 am »
I want to try /home on SD with my tkcrom 1.0 and I cannot find the script prep-home-sd.sh anywhere on my machine.

I have just done a flash with the SD card in, nothing more.

Where should I be looking for the /home on SD setup script?

Sharp ROMs / Which TKROM to DL???

If they are following usual language then RC4 stands for Release Candidate 4.  Which means it is before the Final Release and therefore may have \"issues\".

Software / Software to monitor bluetooth traffic

I may have a simple answer: ifconfig - this lists bytes received which is probably all I need for now.

Software / Software to monitor bluetooth traffic
« on: January 16, 2004, 03:22:24 pm »
I am looking for software that will calculate how many megabytes of bluetooth traffic are being used.

So far I have found Znetmeter and bmon, which both looked promising but don\'t seem to do it.

Any other suggestions?

Try:

hciattach /dev/ttyS3 bcsp
Sorry, I did not make it clear that I have already tried that with same results as others (ie BCSP initialization timed out).

I am emailing William Lee for answers to your addition questions.
