Ubuntu / C700 Kexec Boot Help
« on: August 24, 2009, 10:10:30 am »
I have a c700 and want to run Ubuntu or whatever on it.

Tried Omegamoon's set. What hed I done:
- Kexec kernel flashed - almost succesfully. Descriptions said flash process
to reboot after, which didn't happened.
- Multiboot kernel seems to work: it enables to select the system source. When
selection done - the sceen fades a bit and it freezes.

The system source is a 2 gig sd card or a 256 meg mmc card (tailored filesystem).
Tried to vary the fs to ext2/3, but no luck. Tried to change to Angstorm kexec kernel (r13),
but procuces the same behavior. Reflash to original Sharp kernel did not helped also.

What next?

Debian / Customized New Rootfs
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:55:26 pm »
Hi,

I've got a battery-drain issue. I realize that my c3200 with Andromeda get switched on while suspended and it is in the leather case with lid closed.
First I suspedted that the power button is beeing pressed accidentally, however it was not the case before [Andromeda].

I try to investigate this state. E.g. to log and forbid unattended wake-up while lid is beeing closed.
Tell me, where is a wake-up script and how it should detect the lid switch?
As far as I know, Andromeda uses apm method, but could not get further with this.

What your opinion?

I posted the details of this rootfs which is simple howto.

[...]

I stated previously that I found andromeda very userful.
Easy install, very fitting customizations, and seems to be standard debian.

Ok, my philosophic questions are:
-is it "andromeda" possible or worth to applied for model c700?

-it is really a standard debian system?
Previously I've tried a lot of roms, and finally those died. Why? Simply 'cause
upon my extra needs I started to heavily modify them, but with each 'n every
update (eg. libc, x-devel environment, path-relocation due to storage issues, etc)
I got closer to the end. Finally there always were a barrier (outdating, inconsistency,
  broken packages, etc).
Will "andromeda-debian" assure long time maintanance in standard debian way?

-if this "andromeda" is such succesful, as I find, why there are other "rom" experiments?
(well, why not) What do they know, what more do they offer what makes them vital
to be considered using a zaurus gadget? (in other words: what "andromeda" lacks?)

Between a Z and a Linux host.

usb-gadget start

The first step would be to configure the device usb0 in /etc/network/interfaces on your Z.

# Ethernet/RNDIS gadget (g_ether)
# ... or on host side, usbnet and random hwaddr
iface usb0 inet static
        address 192.168.129.10
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.129.0
        gateway 192.168.129.1

usb-gadget already pre-configures usb0 for you, so you can just use the defaults here.

The next step is to configure usb0 on your PC. Again, this is done in /etc/network/interfaces:
[...]

This is what doesn't work for me.
On Z I can set up usb0 easily, but not on my laptop PC.
I've tried g_ether, cdc_*, usbnet, zaurus modules so far.

laptop#: modprobe g_ether host_addr=00:dc:c8:f7:75:05 dev_addr=7e:44:7c:4f:a0:6c
FATAL: Error inserting g_ether (/lib/modules/2.6.24.2v2/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/g_ether.ko): No such device

What should I do?

Hi, I found this Andromeda Debian very excellent!
However I stucked with usb networking.

My Z has a configured usb0 interface, but my Debian laptop not.
How can I make it to have the connection?

I've tried g_ether, cdc_*, usbnet, zaurus modules so far.

laptop#: modprobe g_ether host_addr=00:dc:c8:f7:75:05 dev_addr=7e:44:7c:4f:a0:6c
FATAL: Error inserting g_ether (/lib/modules/2.6.24.2v2/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/g_ether.ko): No such device

PS. Couldn't figure Sakura terminal behavior for font size inc/decrease. Is it a keymap issue or...?

Has anyone managed to compile wvdial?
I have problems connecting with some internet providers using modem line with the default pdaxrom (pdaxii13) dialer. I 've tried to compile an alternative like wvdial or kppp but no luck. Getting too many errors.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=164605\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Same request... by the way: have you got over with wvstreams? Just wvdial?
What version you tried?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Web Browser Suggestions
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:55:44 am »
Try links...
links for text-based browsing
links -g for graphical iface
What else a man could long for? Of course, there's no mouse middle-click, no
proxy manager plugin, but anyway, it is fast and reliable.
Works on C3k2 pdaXromb3 and a lot more...

why am I not able to get u-boot working? CF / SD is well formated with FAT16 (tried it with or without partitioning)

trying to flash u-boot with this dammed D + C keys gives me only blinking green / yellow ...
Give a try... don't get confused for blinking leds, 'cause I had been in the same situation.
But I got over with it.
Cookbook: (at least worked for me)
1., fat16 on any card
2., not significant if it is the whole card, or partitioned for 1 partition, eg: mkdosfs -F 16 /dev/sda or /dev/sda1
3. wait long while both leds are blinking (or simply on), so not only 20 secs...
4., and finally leds stop blinking, and you have u-boot installed.

For me on c3200.

Hi,

How can I install beta3 (initrd.bin updater.sh tools.tar)
using u-boot?

dd? nandwrite? or recycle sharp bootloader and... ?

I'd like to try beta3 after beta4 and u-boot.
---------------------
Report on beta4 impressions:
i've installed u-boot, having both leds (orange and green) flashing.
After that everything went ok.
beta4 misses cardctl, there was no audible sound, some progs behind the icons did not
worked (usb config...), vm menu went out of screen.
No backlight dim / zoom keys worked.
Button suspend is an eyeshot, resume is rather slow.
beta4 could not drove SysOn CF gps card.
Usb gadgets, like mouse, keyboard, netwk adapter worked well.
Internal keyboard worked, extnal usb keyboard failed some keys, eg. up arrow... (labtech ultra-flat).

z: SL-C3200, sd: 1g, 2g, mmc: 256m CF: 1g, worked all of them for u-boot intall.

O.

Sharp ROMs / Char Display On Qkonsole
« on: June 17, 2006, 06:59:04 pm »
Solution has been found, finally.
Here it is for the sake of the archive.

1., Simply open the console.
2., Say 'reset'.
3., And voila, everyting is right after then. (As you have the proper charset installed.)
4., Further readings are the sources of 'reset' and 'qconsole'.

Sharp ROMs / Char Display On Qkonsole
« on: April 04, 2006, 04:12:58 pm »
Folks,

please tell me, how do I make my Z with Cacko 1.22 lite to display iso-8859-2 (Hungarian)
chars under qkonsole instead those garbage bricks?
The chars I am long for are: öüóõúéá... (oacute, uacute, etc.)

Don't tell me (tell me) to install unicode (or whatever) fonts, 'cause
- if I set $HOME/Settings/locale.conf to hu, the qtopia gui menu is displayed correctly, but not a text in qkosole.
- if I switch to eg. Czech keyboard layout, I am able to input those chars, eg.ó (oacute), which are displayed correcty. But a few rows above a text with Hungarian chars is a garbage, at a same time.
- once (yes, it is not a very professional thing) I  managed to display an iso-8859-2 text via qkonsole correctly, but only once, and after all I couldn't find out which setting lead to it.

So, finally I suppose that Z with cacko is capable to display in qkonsole such chars, but how?

Please, do me this favor and tell me the secret....
