5x00 Hardware / 5600 Assembly Pictures?
« on: September 26, 2006, 02:45:59 am »
I've contacted a UK company which do BGA rework (www.printsys.co.uk)

Code: [Select]
Hello Cedric.
Are the BGA`s Leadfree or Leaded?
We normally charge £50.00 per component, that would be removal of old chip, clean-up of the pads and placement of the new device total = £100.00
Would you be able to show a picture of the board so we can see if it would be suitable for our rework station.
Best Regards,
Stuart.

    Dear Sir,

I'm just wondering if you could do small quantity of upgrade of memory chip (BGA type) from a PDA device. The BGA rework will be to upgrade 32M to 128M of RAM (2 chips).

Could you give me a quote for a single device and another quote for a small/medium amount?

Regards,
Cedric.

5x00 Hardware / 5600 Assembly Pictures?
« on: September 25, 2006, 10:48:08 am »
Hi,

I'm just wondering if someone has some assembly pictures for the 5600 (poodle). I'm looking for the memory chip manufacturer/number and if the board has 1 or 2 BGA chips? the poodle has 32M of RAM, so is it 1 chip? of 256Mbits or 2 chips of 128Mbits?

Regards,
Ced.

maybe asked somebody on the IRC channel #openzaurus, maybe you'll find a nice guy which will build a custom 2.6 kernel for your device...

Hi,

A month ago, I've built an ipk from OE (dev branch) and it wasn't really usable... really slow under GPE and nearly impossible to move the avatar. maybe I've done something wrong during the build. I didn't used a swap file so maybe it's a memory issue, don't know need to try again when I finished to paint my home office...
I've asked RP to test it on his C machines but he's really busy...

Ced.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Swap
« on: May 31, 2006, 03:37:13 am »
I've used this in the past with kernel 2.4 and 2 weeks ago with the kernel 2.6 from OE --> NBD

It works really nice with my compact flash network card... in term of performance it's fine I don't see any issue... :-)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Poodle Kernel 2.6 Preview
« on: May 22, 2006, 02:53:11 am »
@CoreDump ->  SD works for me... card: 256M Vikings

for example Calendar+Address+Backspace doesn't work on GPE from .dev

I don't know if you notice this but if you put the device in suspend/resume mode or change the backlight settings then the screen flicker for few seconds with horizontal lines...

Something I've played this weekend is creating a swap file via NBD, I need to post the .bb file... so far it works great with 2.6.

Hardware Mods / Ram Upgrade
« on: May 17, 2006, 08:01:37 am »
I'm just bumping this thread again... it'll be nice for my 5600 to get a RAM upgrade, 32M to 128M...

Maslovsky, can I send my Zaurus to you? how much will it be for the upgrade?

Or maybe somebody else in West Europe...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Games Under Gpe

Hi,

I've compiled Exult 1.4.x (cvs version) for GPE, but I didn't have the chance to test it... I'll let you know when I'll do some basic testing. Additionally I've built Pentagram (Ultima 8) engine but at the moment it's not really usable: bad performance and poor user control...

Thx.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How Kernel Handles Pxa255 On 5600?
« on: April 19, 2005, 04:04:18 am »
yes... the kernel has the "cache bug errata enabled. so yes you don't get a full speed kernel for your pxa255.
In the previous release (3.5.2), I've asked Mickeyl to produce another kernel for the poodle and he told me it'll be available for OZ 3.5.3... I think Mickeyl has too much stuff to do... :-)

My OE setup is configured for an alpha kernel 2.6 and I don't really want to mess that up...
