Looks interesting. How fast does the display update? I've heard that E-Ink can be really slow.

Since it doesn't run QT, at the moment anyway, you're pretty much limited to console apps from the Sharp ROM. Doesn't Cacko run X11? If so, that would be the best place to snag apps for this, that and Debian ARM.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=136115\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It updates rather slow, depending on refresh modr ftom 500ms to 1s. But there are als fast refreshs of only parts of the screen possible (e.g status display or note taking with pen).

Hi,

you might be interested to take a look at

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisp...daysprune=&f=99

to learn more about an E-Ink device which runs on Linux with X-11 and matchbox, uses an xscale processor and seems to be binary compatible to Zaurus.

It's intended purpose is to be used as an electronic reader. It comes with viewers for PDF, XHTML, graphics, text and  APABI (to be continued with updates).

It is also a WACOM pen enabled device, which means that has a touchscreen and a WACOM pen. It can display 16 grayscales with an 768x1024 resolution.

It has integrated WIFI for a conncection to the IREX content delivery system. By using the supplied docking station it can also connect to Fast Ethernet or can appear by USB as a mass storage device to other devices.

It also has a SD and CF slot which can be used both at the same time. It also has an USB connector which can be used to plug USB memory sticks into the device.

So far we have been able to find out the following stuff about the internals of the device:

* X11 with matchbox
* able to run some apps from the Zaurus ARM utils, which leads to the impression, that it is binary compatible to the Zaurus
* USB host and client
* root access through ssh is possible when the network is up (which was initially only the case during connections to the content delivery service but which can now be brought up by viewing and interacting with a specially prepared PDF file)
* browser is minimo

I had to update the card's firmware to get it work. Try to search for prism firmware update on the forum and you should find some hard to understand stuff which workd in my case...

what happens if you start the connection on the command line.

Thank you very much for you input!
When I start the connection from the command line I get a connection in no time and it is stable. Which means I can access Intra- and Internet from all appliations which do not rely on the Qtopia network detection feature (that means: Mail does not work, but Picsel Browser does, ... and - most important - online software installation) works. For Qtopia the network still seams to be down.

Here is the output of ifconfig and iwconfig:

it sounds as if dhcpcd is failing. this should really be in the security and networking part of the forum
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108868\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

DHCP is not activated. The manually assigned IP adress works just fine. Actually everything works just fine, until I confirm the "no connection detected" box, which unfortunately doesn't like to give up its focus...

Could the virtual network interface wlan0, wifi0 be part of the problem? E.g. Qtopia is waiting for the wrong interface to come up?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 Is Released

Hi all,

I finally managed to get a Wifi card working with WPA. All I had to do the following:

1) configure the conf files according to FAQ
2) update the firmware of the card

The later was successful, although I do not really know what I actually did (.hex files and such things;-)...

My problem now is a pretty stupid one:

1) I click onto the connect symbol.
2) The connect symbol becomes red and says that it is connected.
3) Some seconds later a window pops up to tell me, that "No connection detected," and that I should "Check your TCP/IP settings."

The funny thing is, that between 2) and 3) the network is up and running. You can ping hosts in the Intra- and Internet (be it by IP or hostname), you can even browse the web. So apparently everything is running. But then the Zaurus doesn't know it?!

Pleeeeeeease help! I am to stupid to solve this last piece...

Btw.:
I have the same problem, when I am using a CF Fast Ethernet card. The TCP/IP settings are manual, with gateway and DNS pointing to my router 192.168.1.1

Security and Networking / Network Problem With Cacko 1.23
« on: December 19, 2005, 12:32:21 pm »
Hi,

I am trying to use a Fast Ethernet and a WPA W-LAN access with my C860 an Cacko ROM 1.23. After some trouble I got the WPA and the Fast Ethernet CF card running. While the cards are recognized and running, I got the following problems:

* Fast Ethernet:

Link established but I can only ping my own IP adress. Nothing else can be accessed.

* W-LAN:

The difficult WPA encryption stuff works allright. But the connection is disconnected, because of an DNS error.

I  assume that both errors are resulting from the same problem: I can't get out of my machine. Could someone please enlighten a linux rookie what the problem could be? Thanks!

Attached is my vision of a startup screen. Maybe it would be nicer, if someone could provide a tux facing to the right and being on the run. ;-)

It would like to have a plain simple grey qtopia background with icons matching the tux colors (black and yellow).

Well I like it simple yet elegant.

I just wish that it ran as fast as in DRDR's 5x-accelerated video. ()

Mine seems to be a bit slow when opening web pages. But probably it loads the whole page into memory before displaying. So it seems to be slower but probably isn't slower when you regard full page loading times.

As you are in Japan: Maybe you can keep us informed about other Sharp software for the Zaurus?

I use Cacko ROM 1.22 on a C860. There's it a command line tool called obexpush included. This and receiving OBEX transfers works. Does Cacko also use Bluez?

I have a C750 with Cacko 1.22 and Jeode Java. At first the options specified in the runzaurus-sky-explorer file weren't recognized. I removed them but now I get the error "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

I also use Cacko 1.22+the hotfix+Jeode+J2ME. The sky-explorer runs without any problems and without any file and configuration changes. Sorry, I don't know what's wrong in your case.

It would be interesting to know if this worked, but I'm not willing to spend that much money for Picsel to find out.  I liked it when I had a clie, but it came free :-).

How did it perform on the Clie?
