General Discussion / Zaurus Goes For $2,247.00 On Ebay

Eh?

Have you got a link or some proof of that? It doesn't make any sense when I got a c3100 in perfect condition off ebay for £215 just over a month ago.

Unfortunately Ebay took it down shortly after it was won. Oddly, the bidding went from around $300 USD to over $2200, then was won for $2247! No intermediate bids. I was sniping on this up to the last minute and saw it happen. You'll have to take my word. Seemed fishy to me.

Am I missing something or what? I think this was a used 3200. Couldn't one buy this for much less new?

as per other post, look carefully to see if it's just the backlight.

if your display really is bust, Guylhem has a working one for sale.

they're not too hard to dismantle.

Thanks. What's Guylhem's site?

If it's just the cables, I'll send it to sharp to repair. I don't feel competent to attempt it myself. If they want much more than $50, I'll consider buying a new 6000. I'm using my old 5500 but miss the 6000 a lot!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152865\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Are you the original owner of your 6000, or was is "pre-loved", and if so could it have been opened up before?

The 6000 is a solid beast and doesn't flex in use (or only a tiny amount) so I don't see how the cable could break.

It's quite possible that that the cables are merely a little bit loose and the contacts need cleaning.
When I dismantled and reassembled mine, it took two goes before I got a decent contact, the 2nd time I cleaned them with an alcohol rub.

"Pre-loved" I think. I got it on Ebay but it was immaculate when I received it. I dropped it on concrete at more than 3 feet and there was already something wrong with the touch screen as I had to recalibrate it daily. As I have wrecked things in the past when I tried to fix delicate electronics, I think I'll send it to Sharp and wait for an estimate. Thanks a lot for your help.

I have a similar problem to yours with my sl6000. When I turn on my 6000, the display stays black. This happened after a week of low battery warnings even though I had it on the charger, and after I dropped it. I tried taking the battery [div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152747\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

if you hold the 6000 up to a strong light and try different viewing angles, do you see anything? if the backlight is dead, the image is very faint - my 6000 had this fault.
it's possibly a wonky lcd cable, there are two. there's dismantling photos on my website. the lcd connectors are not exactly industrial strength!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152759\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Can this be fixed? Can I fix it? Where can I get it fixed? I see the photos on your website but don't see the LCD connectors.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152791\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

They are the two ribbon cables on the last picture in the motherboard section.  The smaller of the two is the touch screen cable, the other brown one is for the lcd.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=152792\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I see the small striped copper colored ribbon cable for the LCD. So this is probably the cause of the problem? I do see something changed when I turn the 6000 on so I think something is going on inside but I just can't see it. I called Sharp and they want $60 just to look at it which includes $50 towards labor. It sounds like if the LCD cable needs replacement, it wouldn't cost much more than $50 to fix it.

I just remembered another problem which may be related and that is that I needed to recalibrate the display every day before this happened. So it may be the touch screen cable that's the problem as well! Does this sound reasonable?

If it's just the cables, I'll send it to sharp to repair. I don't feel competent to attempt it myself. If they want much more than $50, I'll consider buying a new 6000. I'm using my old 5500 but miss the 6000 a lot!

I've got a C760 that's about 3.5 years old now and last week it just stopped working altogether.  One minute it was working fine, then I closed the lid, opened it back up maybe 30 minutes later and it wouldn't turn on.  Thinking it might be the battery, I hooked it up to AC power and let it sit for a while, but it still shows no signs of life (except the charge light comes on when on AC power).

I've tried holding down OK when powering on, tried to get to the diagnostic menu using D-M keys (and even Fn-D-M), but nothing ever happens.  I thought maybe the battery was completely dead (original battery), so I ordered a new one, but it shows the same behavior with the new battery.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is the C760 Recovery Kit that I believe is supposed to help with bricked units.  Before I take that step, does anyone have any thoughts on other things to try?  Of course, I'll probably use this as an excuse to upgrade to a C3200, but it would be nice to get the C760 working at least one last time to get some files off of it.  Thanks for any advice!

This happened after a week of low battery warnings even though I had it on the charger, and after I dropped it. I tried taking the battery out for a while and reinserting it; hard resetting it with reset while holding the OK button; holding Q and T while resetting. I tried removing the battery overnight, then pressing D and B and plugging in the power; also, holding Fn, D, and M while pressing reset. The charging light comes on and something beeps when I did a hard reset. The display seems to change to a different shade of black when I try to trun it on but nothing that I can use.

Did I do damage to the screen when I dropped it or is it a used-up battery? I had its Piel Frama case on when dropped and I've dropped it before without a problem. If it's the screen, what can I do to repair it? If it's just the battery, I can replace it.

Is there a sl6000 Recovery Kit? What is it? If it's the battery circuit, how would I know so I could try to repair it?

I don't know the 6000's very well, but if you know how to pull up the FN + D + M (or D +M) normally but it is not coming up now it sound like a problem with the display or the Zaurus innards, but probably not the battery. If the 6000 is like the CXXXX you shouldn't even need the battery in the battery bay in order to pull up the Fn+D+M menu.
My 2 cents. hope it helps.

Does anyone know where I can get service? Would it be cheaper to replace the 6000?

The powerbick was recalled because it overheats. Pellican is offerring a replacement program at http://www.powerbrickrecall.net but unfortunately it is not actually replacing the battery with a new one but with other PSP accessories. Some are usefull like the power supplies though.

Just found this

Backpack with solarcharger, Ipod Remote and Bluetooth headset

by the way anyone know how to convert a Ipod Remote in a Zaurus Remote
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'm not so impressed with that as I am with this [a href=\"http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=PP0060&title=logic_3_-_solar_power_charger_for_psp,_ds_and_gba_sp]Solar charger for the PSP[/url].

If the PSP powerbrick worked, this might too and it's not too unreasonably priced.

Also, a lot of the power stuff on this suppliers website puts out about the right Volts/Amps. How would you like to charge your Z with a hand crank?

I tried the Appearance app with 600x600 jpgs in landscap mode and portrait but it appears as a small image with a big black border. I,ve tried plasterer and wallpaper switcher with center and scale selected and it apppears to fill the screen but repeats the image as I scroll down the screen. I'm giving up for now.

Quote
I have also found that if I use the built-in "Appearance" utility within the default sharp rom to change to a 640 X 640 wallpaper and select that wallpaper while in landscape mode, it will work OK. Then you can shift back and forth between landscape and portrait and wallpaper will display correctly either way.

The only "gotcha" seems to be that if you reboot the Z, then you have to re-select the wallpaper while in landscape mode again.

How do you stretch wallpaper so it doesn't tile? I've got 480x640 jpg's and they tile when I set them as wallpaper in both landscape and portrait. I have an sl6000. I'm certain there must be an easy and obvious way to do this and think I've done it in the past, but can't figure this out right now.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problem Flashing Oz-opie On Sl6000
« on: February 01, 2006, 10:15:26 am »
I finally found a work-around for my problem that worked in "Howto: Oz 3.5.2 On Sl-6000l, sharing my experiences to date..."in the OZ section of the ROM forum. Pressing d and P while resetting brings up an extensive system menu with 4 pages, the last of which offers to restore a NAND. After figuring out that it wasn't recognising the NAND file because it was named syst0006.dbk-us and it expected syst0006.dbk, I restored the original Sharp NAND.

A suggestion: Could someone who knows the sl6000 well, publish a chart with all the basic key combos that concern the ROM, along with the combos for the other Zaurii for comparison. This would avoid a lot of confusion for new users as the info is scatterred around these forums. I looked very carefully for a solution to this common problem and I've had experience with other Zaurii, linux, other PDAs, and PCs in general.

Thanks Lardman for the help.

Basically everything works as normal until I get to the format command where the screen goes blank.

Sorry about the repeat messages above.

Quote
I don't know if the format command worked since the screen went blank at this point. I've tried reflashing OZ again with the maintainance menu upgrade using the OK button and the power on. IF this works, I get as far as the format choice in the maintainance menu and the screen always goes blank. I've tried restoring NAND with pressing q and t while resetting, the the green and yellow lights go on for a few minutes, I reset, try formatting with the same result. Most times I cannot even access the maintainance menu or the restore NAND lights. Nothing happens.

I thought I saw somewhere a way to use a PC and the USB connection to the sl6000 to restore a NAND? Am I dreaming this? What else should I try?
