For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Zaurus Sl-c3200
« on: November 29, 2014, 06:31:03 am »
Hi Folks,

I was once part of the wonderful Zaurus community and I have a lot to thank both the community and the device for as I have learned a great deal about Linux since I first bought one and am now working in a Linux development role as a result!

Since my C3200 no longer gets any attention I thought it was time to sell. I have the whole kit; Bluetooth adapter, wifi adapter, headphone cable remote control, faux leather case, all boxes and manuals. I've no idea what it's all worth so if anyone is interested please contact me with offers.

I will probably put it on eBay soon, but this seemed to be the place to mention it first.

If you are not interested but can give me an idea of the current asking price I would be grateful, I haven't seen any second hand 3200's sold at all and as I recall they were the top model, so I'm hoping for a reasonable deal.

Cheers,

Gez

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rss Viewer For Pdaxrom
« on: May 05, 2007, 10:29:49 am »
Zort modified for Zaurus & Offline news reading
---------------------------------------------------------

Original scripts from http://zort.sourceforge.net/

I made some changes to zort in order to have a fast and easy accessible offline (or online) rss feed aggregator for pdaXrom. The original scripts have been designed with modern browsers on mind and rely on javascript and css, I have stripped it down to basic html and made it display one page per feed with header and footer links to quickly navigate between feeds.

Rename the .txt file to .tgz and unpack to the root, this will create /var/www/zort and /usr/bin/sync-rss you can change these locations if you wish.

You will need apache running with php, and you may need to tweak the timeout value in php.ini if you have many feeds. I personally run this from a debian server as it's quicker but have tested it works fine inpdaXrom also.

Also I have made a simple shell script to download the pages for offline viewing (/usr/bin/sync/rss) you should edit this script if you with to change any paths of your files - default htdocs is /var/www.

Once you have run /usr/bin/sync-rss it will create a launcher script here /var/www/offline/offline_reader.sh (this can easily be changed in sync-rss) which will remap the scroller on a CXX00 to pgup/pgdn and launch the latest offline copy in dillo.

This was originally intended for personal use but if anyone likes it feel free to suggest improvements

Credits to the original zort author.

EDIT: please rename .txt to .tgz and unpack - sorry no ipk!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Minimo 2
« on: April 30, 2007, 05:42:40 pm »
There's an old ipk of Minimo floating around - it's not very good but as version 2 has now been released, I wondered if it was possible to compile it for pdaxrom?

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/WinCE/build.html
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Mozil...ce_Code_Via_CVS

There can never be too many browsers for pdaxrom

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Calgoo / Google Calendar
« on: April 17, 2007, 05:00:34 pm »
I just discovered Calgoo (http://www.calgoo.com/calgoo.html) which uses the google calendar api so you can use your calendar online/offline. Is it possible to compile this for pdaxrom, or does anyone know of a suitable program that we can use with google calendar?

« on: April 13, 2007, 08:12:44 am »
Hi all,

Just wanted to say that if you install unclutter from meanie's post here (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18415&st=280&#)

if has problems in fluxbox, if you use keyboard navigation on the menu it will cause navigation to mess up.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Which Version Of Pdaxrom Are You Using
« on: April 09, 2007, 04:54:19 pm »
Hi folks, I thought it might be interesting to see a crossection of pdaxrom usage as I've not seen a poll here for a long time.

If you have more than one zaurus with pdaxrom then please choose the version you use more often.

cheers

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mounting Sd With Non-root Access?
« on: February 22, 2007, 12:50:45 pm »
I just bought 2x 2Gb sandisk SD cards - pretty pleased at £10 a pop (including postage).

Problem I'm having is that no matter how the filesystem gets mounted, the /mnt/card directory only grants execute permissions to root (drwxr--r--).

The mount point has full permissions when unmounted (chmod 777 /mnt/card)

Also I have a line in /etc/fstab for the mount at /dev/mmcda1 which I have added various options such as rw,user, noauto - I don't think this has any effect at all

I have a 4Gb CF card that is also FAT32 but this mounts with full (777) permissions.

Any ideas on this would be much appreciated - I'm using beta3 btw

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Top 10 Things To Do In Pdaxrom
« on: February 14, 2007, 08:02:51 am »
I was thinking of all the things I use my Zaurus for and it occurred to me that it does a pretty amazing range of jobs.

For your viewing pleasure, and for no particular reason, I have listed my top 10 things to do in PDAXROM!

(In descending order of popularity)

10. Wikipedia (zbedic)
- Outdated but still contains much interesting information.

09. Watching videos (mplayer)
- Hard to perfect when encoding but if it works it's a great screen to watch stuff on.

08. Emulation (snes9x, gnuboy...)
- The snes puzzle games work great with the keyboard, action games not so good.

07. Calendar (gpe-calendar)
- Pretty useful calendar although I haven't got it to sync with another - I use google calendar normally.

06. Roguelikes (glhack and all of zdevils other packages)
- Some good gaming fun to be had with all these games.

05. Learning development
- At different times I've been learning LAMP, python, bash scripting, and C#.

04. RSS Feed Reader (Liferea)
- It's a little slow, but great at reading news feeds offline.

03. Ebooks (xCHM, epdfview, links...)
- Learning about stuff through books is useful, pdfs aren't very good but chm files work well in xchm.

02. Web browsing & Email (Sylpheed, Dillo, elinks...)
- Handy when connected via wifi, I don't need a full browser like firefox for most browsing. Sylpheed is very handy to write offline emails and keep your entire mailbox with you where you go.

01. Learning bash/linux/pdaxrom
- Spending many hours tweaking, breaking and learning the system. Installing new packages and playing with window managers. This is what I do with 80% of my time spent with pdaxrom, and it's all worth it!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pcmanfm
« on: February 11, 2007, 11:14:44 am »
Hi all,

I noticed a few mentions of pcmanfm in the forum, especially the new pkgs thread but I can't find an ipk. Can anyone tell me where I might find it if it's around.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Opinion: R121 Vs. Beta 3 Vs. Coming Release
« on: February 06, 2007, 09:36:54 am »
Hi all,

I've been off the radar for a while and have seen some hinting about the upcoming pdaxrom release.

Being a tweak-happy beta3 user I'm wondering if it's worth attempting (another) upgrade to r121 or waiting for a new release.

Any idea of how soon this might be, and how stable it's likely to be would be handy - if it's going to be a bleeding-edge-with-problems release I think I'd give it a miss.

cheers all for keep pdaxrom alive

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gdk-warning **: Shmget Failed
« on: December 08, 2006, 06:20:42 am »
Code: [Select]
(:17478): Gdk-WARNING **: shmget failed: error 28 (No space left on device)I seem to keep getting this error message when launching various apps from the shell. Usually it doesn't seem cause a problem but I've never seen it before recently which makes me wonder if it's a change/installed package I've made.

Well I've just installed meanies new gmplayer package and now it seems to be causing a problem, it quits with the error: [ws] shared memory extension error

I understand it is something to do with shared processes but thats about all.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 4gb Sd Card Woes
« on: December 05, 2006, 04:53:24 am »
Ok I won't bore you all with the hellish time I've had trying to get this PQI 4Gb SD card working....

Basically I have a brand new card, and I believe it may have hardware issues, corrupted surface blocks etc. Does anyone know of a good way to check the card, only tool I have found so far is Paragon Partition Manager on XP which just says "Input/Output Error" when I try the surface scan.

So far the card IS actually working in my zaurus but I want to be sure it's not going to start corrupting.

I have ubuntu and XP at my disposal, any tools I can use to test it with?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Howto Fix Home & End Keys In Console Mode
« on: November 28, 2006, 01:55:17 pm »
It has always bothered me that the home and end keys (Fn + left and right) don't work properly in a bash shell, they print a tilda instead, so I dug around for info and here's the fix, thought others might like to know too.

First make sure you are root and create/edit the file /etc/inputrc and paste this into it:

Code: [Select]
"\e[3~": delete-char
# this is actually equivalent to "\C-?": delete-char
# VT
"\e[1~": beginning-of-line
"\e[4~": end-of-line
# kvt
"\e[H":beginning-of-line
"\e[F":end-of-line
# rxvt and konsole (i.e. the KDE-app...)
"\e[7~":beginning-of-line
"\e[8~":end-of-line

Next, edit /etc/profile and add this line on the end:

export INPUTRC=/etc/inputrc

And voila! restart your bash session for your enhanced navigation!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cf Bluetooth Make/model Recommendations
« on: November 21, 2006, 11:12:27 am »
Hi all,

I'm in the market for a compact flash bluetooth card for my C3200 so I can be online all the time with T-Mobile's web & walk connecting through my sony erricson w800i.

As I've no experience with bluetooth as yet I was hoping someone could recommend what a good one to get is, and what a good price to pay is, which seems to vary drastically from £20 - £100!

If anyone has any links or know a good UK distributor I'd be really happy to hear about them.

thanks

EDIT:
There are a few dell truemobile 300 on ebay, anyone have any experience with these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DELL-COMPACT-FLASH-B...1QQcmdZViewItem

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Remapping Right Mouse Modifier
« on: November 09, 2006, 06:19:46 pm »
I've wanted to ask this for ages, is there a way to remap the cancel button on the side od my C3200 so that it acts the same as the Fn key does to enable right mouse clicking.

Simply using xmodmap to remap the Fn key function has no effect.

The only way I've found to do this is using the following script I made and assigning a key to execute it:

if [ -f ~/.mbut ] ; then
  xmodmap -e "pointer = 3 2 1"
  rm -f ~/.mbut
echo "switched to right mouse button"
else
  xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3"
  touch ~/.mbut
echo "switched to left mouse button"
fi

Only problem is that you have to click once to enable and againt to disable.

I want it so its easier to use when the keyboard is folded away in pda mode.
