Zaurus - pdaXrom / Holy Moly - Zaurus Cannot Find Half Of My Programs
« on: November 27, 2006, 09:02:15 pm »
My zaurus was rock solid. a 3200 with fluxbox and kopi. rock solid. suspend worked every time.

I installed SCITE from one of the feeds (I only had official and contrib feeds) and then soon "rm" "find" "touch" "chgrp" "dmesg" etc was not found!!

I rebooted (Big Mistake) and now I can't even get to a prompt.

I get tons of errors, a bunch in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit about different commands being not found.

Then tons of:

INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/getty"

Then the last two are:

INIT: Id "ln" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

then the all the INIT errors repeat again ...

HOLY CRAP DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE I AM CLUELESS.

THANKS SO MUCH!
Frank

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Help With Fluxbox Keymapping Of Clamshell
« on: November 08, 2006, 09:57:59 pm »
Hello All,

I like to keep my 3200 (beta 3) on next to my bed to check email and do random little things here and there so I don't have to keep my Macbook on 24/7 (it already gets enough of a beating at work every day).   Anyway I have it set up to never turn off or suspend or shut off the screen with a timeout.

Anyway I do like to shut the lid and have the screen go off.  I have accomplished this with the following line in my keys file:

XF86RotateWindows :exec /etc/sysconfig/clamshell/closed.sh

which should be easily translateable to other WMs.  While it does work, it does have a side effect: when you open the screen back up it turns on then turns off again (or it is hitting the other little screen button for rotating behind the main one), and the only reason I can think of is that it is hitting the button again.  How does MB or the other WMs handle this ?  Has anyone gotten this behavior to work well under fluxbox, either with the clamshell closing OR rotating (this would be nice for me but is not a must).

Thanks,
Frank

All my letters have a sort of square between them...I heard a while ago it was some unicode thing but how would I fix that?

Thanks,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Halt, Shutdown Etc.will Never Wake Up Pwr Button
« on: October 05, 2006, 09:11:51 am »
Hello all,

It seems whenever I do a halt or init 6 or anything like that to shut down the system it will never start back up when I hit the powerbutton.  I always have to reset it which is a pain. I don't get it and this has happened over multiple pdaxrom installs.  Any clues?

TIA,
Frank

« on: October 05, 2006, 09:10:41 am »
cramfs: wrong magic
FAT: bogus logical sector size 381
VFS: mounted root (jffs2 filesystem) readonly.
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
Freeing init memory: 80k
INIT: version 2.86 booting

I have gotten this FAT error no matter how I seem to format my hard drive, ext, fat, both, over a multitude of pdaxrom installs...

Any Ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Quivering Mouse Pointer/stylus
« on: October 01, 2006, 03:17:36 pm »
Hello All,

When I hold my stylus down on my screen the mouse "quivers" a bit ever so slightly.  This usually isn't a problem except now I am using fluxbox and it is _extremely_ difficult for me to switch "tabs" in fluxbox because since it is quivering it is thinking I am clicking and dragging.

Is there any way to dampen the mouse or create a deadzone like on old joysticks.  I have tried acceleration and threshold settings using xset.

Thanks,
Frank

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Qpkg Only Showing About 1300 Mb Of My 6gb Microdri
« on: September 27, 2006, 05:31:35 pm »
So qpkg only shows about 1300 mb of my 6000~mb partition on my 3200's microdrive.  I saw somewhere else that somebody had this problem too.

du -hsc /mnt/ide

gives me 429mb...

Any ideas on why qpkg isn't showing my whole hd ?

Thanks,
Frank

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Icewm, Power Management - Screen Still Shuts Off
« on: September 19, 2006, 10:21:22 am »
Hello All,

Well after trying XFCE (+/- Fbpanel) I almost settled on IceWM+FBpanel or Matchbox+FBpanel.

However in the end I went with a straight up IceWM installation.

Why you ask?  Didn't I lost all my powermanagement?

The answer is yes and no.

As of right now I have the hinge key mapped in IceWM to the /etc/systemconfig/clamshell/closed.sh script which shuts off the screen when closing the lid.  This was a big thing for me as I didn't want to burn the screen out and often leave my zaurus on with the lid closed (3200) and on a/c power.

Without running the IceWM apm applet the zaurus does not switch screen brightness when unplugged or plugged in, which is the way I like it (Rarely use it for more than a few minutes not plugged in).  With the applet loaded it works almost like matchbox.

I am not running the IceWM battery applet or the mb-applet-battery.  I found the mb-applet-battery in fbpanel didnt make the screen blank on closing of the lid and that was my biggest gripe.  I can manually suspend the Z by pressing the power button if I wanted.  This is all I really asked.

Anyway, IceWM is very fast, the task bar is working wonderfully but my main problem is that the screen STILL shuts off after 5 minutes on A/C power.  It does not do this with mb-applet-battery running in fbpanel (it respects my settings in lightandpower.py).

I was looking at the apm command and found apm -i on the net which ignores any power management when the unit is plugged in but however THIS version of apm (and apm.x) does not have this flag.  I have no idea where to find documentation on the flags that it DOES offer though:

usage: apm [-VvmMsSd] [--verbose] [--minutes] [--monitor] [--suspend] [--standby]

Anyone have any idea about these commands or why else the screen might be blanking still?

Thanks,
Frank

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How To Use Ipkg Install Xxxx To Install Onto Hd
« on: September 16, 2006, 04:56:37 pm »
Hello All,

I was wondering if somebody could please tell me how to use the command line ipkg program to install packages from the feed onto the microdrive.  The idea would be to install a package by typing "ipkg install package name from feed" but have it install like how it would if I selected /mnt/ide on the gui package manager.

Thanks,
Frank

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Installing Beta3 Onto The Microdrive On The 3200
« on: September 15, 2006, 04:08:11 pm »
Hello all,

First off let me say after trying the Sharp Rom, Cacko, OZ/OPIE, OZ/GPE, I have settled on pdaxrom.  In my opinion it is among the best looking and the most powerful and definitely has the best user base (I mean look at the forum posts).

Anyway, I really want to use pdaxrom but I have one major requirement.  I would like it installed onto the microdrive on my 3200.  I've found things run a decent bit faster from the microdrive and I'd rather not have to worry about where I am installing programs etc...also I figured it's a good idea to save the internal, non replaceable flash memory from a lot of writes.

Anyway, I couldn't find any documentation on this.  The installation procedures on the page are from beta1 and doesn't really mention the microdrive.  I believe this can be done though.

Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA,
Frank
