Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fluxbox: The Ultimate Configuration
« on: December 07, 2006, 12:55:43 pm »
I can never seem to get transparency to work!

How does one enable it? - I've changed "Unfocused window alpha" down to 0 even and it doesn't seem to do anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Frank

I installed SCITE from one of the feeds (I only had official and contrib feeds) and then soon "rm" "find" "touch" "chgrp" "dmesg" etc was not found!!

...

INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/getty"
All of those programs including getty are handled by busybox (you *should* see them as symlinks to /bin/busybox).

If you can get into a rescue mode prompt somehow, I guess you'd start by checking whether either busybox is missing or the symlinks are gone and replacing these. It seems really strange that installing a package would do that sort of damage though! Hopefully you don't have many files missing!

Good luck

Oh Crap!  I did remove busybox I think by accident when trying to remove the other *box stuff since I'm running fluxbox.  Crap.  Any suggestions on how to get it back on there?

Can I run ipkg from the recovery console?

Thanks,
Frank

My zaurus was rock solid. a 3200 with fluxbox and kopi. rock solid. suspend worked every time.

I installed SCITE from one of the feeds (I only had official and contrib feeds) and then soon "rm" "find" "touch" "chgrp" "dmesg" etc was not found!!

I rebooted (Big Mistake) and now I can't even get to a prompt.

I get tons of errors, a bunch in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit about different commands being not found.

Then tons of:

INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/getty"

Then the last two are:

INIT: Id "ln" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

then the all the INIT errors repeat again ...

HOLY CRAP DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE I AM CLUELESS.

THANKS SO MUCH!

I totally agree, its one of the things that is much faster using fluxbox. Glad you got it working, I mistyped the command but I see you found it anyway.

Yup, Thanks for your help.  I had actually tried it before but fluxbox didn't seem to pick it up. I think because I didn't have the full path.  However I noticed in the custom fluxbox config there are no full paths and fluxbox doesn't seem to pick any of it up.  I know this stuff is in my path, so how can I get fluxbox to pick it up?

Thanks for your help!

Well...

If I reboot my Z 3200, it is going to go to 416 by default, right?

Is there any way to check the speed of my cpu?

Tnx...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145994\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yup it will go back.  And I suppose you could read the values from where cpuoverclock.py and the aliases write to and interpret them back into the clock speed.

What I was wondering last night was:  After a suspend does the clock speed get reset? I guess an easy way to test would be to lower it to something ridiculous like 100 MHZ so you can definitely tell the difference and suspend it and bring it out of suspend. Then you can see if it still acts ridiculously slow.

Try this:

None XF86RotateWindows :exec chkhnge

Sorry, I realised this must have been one of my own modifications - it was included in my fluxbox howto files.

chkhnge takes care of the screen rotation and lid closing, it must also switch off the screen for me.

Ahh, that works beautifully, though I had to put /usr/bin/chkhinge in my exec, but I had to do that for clamshell.sh also.

Finally landscape works also! I barely use it but it looks awesome when I show people the rotating screen hah.

The screen rotation in fluxbox tho makes the default WM look like a hog tho.  It's INSTANT in fluxbox.

Thanks!

I'm using fluxbox, and when I shut the lid, when I open it again I can see the light turn back on, so it seems it works on the C3200. Can you see that the light is still on when you open yours?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145921\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hmm.. What does your keys file look like?

Right now to goes like this:
1. Screen on
2. Shut lid
3. Screen shuts off
4. Open lid
5. Screen turns on
6. Split second later screen shuts off
7. hit a key or tap the screen and the light turns on.

Before I mapped the key to closed.sh the screen would not shut off at all.

Beta 3 does exactly this by default:
It switches the screen off if you close the lid, but otherwise stays fully functional.

So there is probably no need to do any reconfiguring.

The WM handles this function though. If you switch WM then the ability goes away.  As per the subject of the topic, I am running Fluxbox.  I have been able to get it to "sort of" work though with the annoying side effect of the screen turning on when you open it but turning right off again until you hit another key or tap the screen.

Here is a modified version of cpuoverclock.py that works with the 3200.  All I had to do was change one line .  If you really wanted to get lazy all you had to do was change 3100 to 3200 in this one spot.

I'll still probably use the aliases a lot because those are quick and more easily scriptable, but it's nice to have the GUI util also.

Enjoy.

hmmm - don't understand.
Lemuus said that the py script wrks well on his 3200, but the aliases don't.
So for what reason did you fix the py script?
Any solution for the aliases?

Thanks

Hmm I'm not sure, maybe he modified his?

I have never been able to get it working in many installs of pdaxrom.  The reason for this was that it checks for a 1000, 3100, or a 3000 but completely leaves out the 3200.  I just added the 3200 in the statement that assigns the values to set and it worked perfectly.

The aliases also work for me so I'm not sure how to "fix" those.

Hello All,

I like to keep my 3200 (beta 3) on next to my bed to check email and do random little things here and there so I don't have to keep my Macbook on 24/7 (it already gets enough of a beating at work every day).   Anyway I have it set up to never turn off or suspend or shut off the screen with a timeout.

Anyway I do like to shut the lid and have the screen go off.  I have accomplished this with the following line in my keys file:

XF86RotateWindows :exec /etc/sysconfig/clamshell/closed.sh

which should be easily translateable to other WMs.  While it does work, it does have a side effect: when you open the screen back up it turns on then turns off again (or it is hitting the other little screen button for rotating behind the main one), and the only reason I can think of is that it is hitting the button again.  How does MB or the other WMs handle this ?  Has anyone gotten this behavior to work well under fluxbox, either with the clamshell closing OR rotating (this would be nice for me but is not a must).

Thanks,
Frank
