Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Battery Charging Problem?
« on: October 07, 2012, 04:56:27 pm »
I had netwalker unused for a while. After plugging it to charger and booting it started to behave oddly.

Netwalker works fine but charging led (the one on netwalker) blinks and unit will not charge more than 70%.

When booted from halt witch charger unplugged it shows 10-12%. After just plugging charger and unplugging charge jumps to 70%.

I had left it charging (with blinking) for over 24h but it behaves the same.

Can any one suggest what happened?

I wanted to use it as small home media center for music and internet radio and for email but now I dont know how it will behave.

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Usb Displaylink Vga Adapter
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:33:49 am »
Works.
I had to compile kernel and xorg module and edit xorg.conf.

Works almost perfectly.
X server launches, sets both displays to work and has :0.0 and :0.1 displays.
Xinerama does not work. Netwalker just freezes.
It needs to restart X server to connect/disconnect adapter.

When plugged I can achieve about 20-70mb/sec transfer to its memory with simple dd command.

I got it from local supplier for about 60$ or 50EUR.
It works under windooze too

If any one interested I can post some commands needed to compile needed modules.

Software / Eda - No Eagle For Arm But Kicad Is Quite Fine
« on: May 07, 2010, 04:03:38 am »
I do some electronic projects for fun.
Till now I was using Eagle to prepare pcb.
But there is no eagle for arm

So i started to use KiCAD. Main problem with it is a lack of element libraries.
I found a nice way to transfer eagle libraries to kicad format.
Just download eagle, install it on x86.
Then get ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/userfiles/ulp/...2kicad-0.9b.ulp script, put it in eagledir/ulp
Run eagle, open desired library, there is a load of them, and click on "ULP" icon, select script (I renamed it to _eagle2kicad-0.9b.ulp to have it on first place), check Draw pin names and Draw pin numbers (that can be set in script), select place to put output files and run script.

Then, result files should be put in /usr/share/kicad/libraries and modules.

For now I have about 30 libraries exported. Did not test them much because i just started to learn kicad.

BTW.
Kicad is quite responsive on netwalker. Will try to check how it behaves on zaurus under zubuntu.

Any one know a nice tutorial on kicad?

Edited:
Just found nice bundle with all eagle libraries recoded:
http://library.oshec.org/
There is also a bundle with all of them pascked together...

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Small Useful Informations
« on: April 22, 2010, 12:28:03 pm »
Scripts triggered by power/suspend changes are located in /etc/pm
They are triggered twice per change first time with "true" or "false" argument when power change is triggered and second time with "suspend suspend" or "suspend resume" when that change is finishing. That means when you do a full cycle suspend-resume they got triggered four times.
Simply put your script in /etc/pm and link in apropriate directory there  and note what is happening.

Its useful to pause and resume mpd or when you dont want to use thick power agent (ie in text mode) to make suspend/resume or backlight change when button is pressed or lid closed/open.

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Usb Ethernet Dongle - New Version
« on: April 14, 2010, 07:09:07 pm »
I have one usb-ethernet dongle. Its based on pegasus chip.
Working flawlessly under cacko, zubuntu, ubuntu and off course most of windooze.

But recently i got new batch of these and suprise! New ones are based on different chip.
They look similar but have two chips (supereal sr9600 and sr8200) instead of one pegasus II (adm8511) chip.

And ubuntu does not recognize them.

On CD shipped with those dongles are some source code for linux.
Can any one tell if those have chance to work under standard netwalker installation?
Directory with files is zipped and attached to this post.

As I discovered netwalker is quite powerful device and can play full screen video smoothly.
Details are here:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/sharpne...ker/message/117

In short. After dumping pulseaudio totem player and vlc player started to play video smoothly. But there is a problem:
Video is played too fast.
I dod not have enough time to find out why and how to fix this.
Maybe it has something in common with cpu governor and constant switching between 160MHz and 800MHz?
I have written a nifty script to wisualize how cpu is switched and it shows that in normal conditions cpu can be switched 2-5 times per second between 160 and 800MHz and stays in higher clock for 5-20% of time. Maybe players got confused by this?
I will check this soon...

Any way. It is nice to be here again

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Netwalker Vs Zaurus (lets Say C1000)
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:19:43 pm »
How does compare work and play on netwalker vs zaurus?

I am using c1000. Im very happy with usb host, keyboard, battery time, video performance (cacko), linux onboard, cf and sd card slots.
I am not satisfied with amount of ram, usb pigtail, issues with zubuntu (video performance), overral performance in memory hungry applications (so thats second time first problem).

I dont use wifi at all. I use BT a bit (syncing with phone, connecting through gprs).
I like to doddle in qcad, dia, read ebooks, a bit of web browsing.

I would use RDP connections a lot if i could connect VGA monitor to netwalker.

And my question:
How netwalker compares to zaurus performance?
I have read that there are some issues with video performance but is it that big problem?

I would buy one if I could do as much as on my zaurus (with zubuntu) plus some desktop/laptop activities.
Currently i have oqo 01+ but it does ~1,5h battery time and is a bit too slow in xp. I could not make power governors under linux do more than 90minutes of work. Thats why I am looking for next personal mobile tool...

Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Storage And Performance
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:47:05 am »
As far I know Netwalker has 4GB of flash and slot for SDHC card.
I dont count usb ports for pendrives.

First:
How do you deal with that amount of storage space?
How much does ubuntu fills in this 4GB?

Second:
How fast is access to SDHC card?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Matchbox Panel Baloon Message
« on: October 07, 2009, 12:40:15 pm »
Is there a way to show a baloon message in matchbox panel by script?

I can do it by mb-applet-launcher and -m switch but this is activated by click on panel. I prefer keybinding.
I want to see some status info (battery, volume, load etc) on screen. Currently i am using aosd_cat triggered by xbindkeys for this purpose but it is quite heavy and slow.

Ubuntu / High Cpu Usage After Resume
« on: August 14, 2009, 04:05:37 pm »
Zubuntu works almost flawless.
For now I have only one problem: After resume for couple seconds there is very high cpu usage. Zaurus is unusable. Cursor is moving, windows in X switch very slowly. I tried to trace which process is eating cpu but with no success.

Only thing I noticed is that the longer Z sleeps the longer high cpu usage takes.

Is this an issue with suspend/resume in kernel or processlike?

Ubuntu / Unresolved Inheritance Operation
« on: July 09, 2009, 01:35:15 pm »
hi.
I am currently polishing zubuntu installation on c1000.

xpaint, xpat2, xfig gives me unresolved inheritance operation error.

I have libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 on my Z and according to this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxt/+bug/343574 it should be fixed in this version.
Or maybe in this version in jaunty?

Any way, how to fix this?
Where do I find that library fixed?
