Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bluetooth On Opie?

Has anyone got bluetooth working on 3.5.2 w/ opie 1.1.7 on collie?  If so could you post a basic howto?

I just got a belkin bluetooth card.  I was expecting a similar setup to the irda but I don't seem to be getting anywhere.  Card is picked up as a compaq bluetooth sleeve.

New to bluetooth and I'm not sure where to go from here.  Ultimate goal is to dial out through my phone.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Compilation question

Quick question.  I'm going to put hentges 3.3.6pre1 for experimental purposes.  The kernel link on the hentges site links to a section on openzaurus.org that isn't there any more, specifically:

Can I use the OE kernel?  I'm hoping to compile my own to incorporate this patch for sony ericsson phones (if it isn't already there, in which case I'm boned).

Hello,
I hope someone can help with this...

I was wondering what the difference between the linux kernel source on the zaurus and the full linux kernel source?

Was/is embedix a ground-upwards rewrite of the linux kernel, or is it a stripped down / patched specifically for the zaurus version?  Does Sharp maintain this kernel?

Do all zaurus kernels for a specific model use the same source?  I read somewhere that OpenZaurus is based on debian.  Does that mean that the usr/src on a debian install has the same kernel source as OpenZaurus (provided the kernels are the same version)?

If that's the case, why do people still use an older 2.4 release instead of a newer one?  Are the sources backwards compatible?

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Kernel Source 3.3.5

Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone would know where I'd find the source for 3.3.5 (rom and kernel) and whether the instructions on cross compiling are still around?

I'm having trouble dialling out via a sony ericsson phone.  It turns out that this is a known bug across all linuxes and I've tracked down the solution.

Details of my investigations are here.

And an example of patching the problem is here, where someone had the same trouble with his ibm thinkpad laptop when he was installing Mandrake 10.0.

I'm running FreeBSD at my company's 'request', and unfortunately it seems to be the one OS that you can't cross-compile for the zaurus on.  I'm going to stick a distro on my pc at home and try to install the patch and re-compile the kernel.  Any recommendations on distros?  Anything I should avoid?

The reason I'm looking for the source for version 3.3.5 is because it was the last version that everything I bought the zaurus for worked.  Except dial-up on a Sony-ericsson phone.

Anyone know whether the irda adapter is an FIR or SIR setup?  Apparently you'd normally check in the bios on a desktop PC.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / irda dial-up (any oz release)

Hello,

I bought a sony ericsson Z600 earlier this year and I've had no luck dialing out through it.  I've followed the details in assorted posts (most recently this one) with limited success ie it works fine through a friend's nokia but doesn't with either sony ericsson I have.  

I had some success with earlier cacko roms but no sharp rom offers all the functionality I need.  I've tried connecting using every OZ rom, but to no avail.

On the other hand, every version of OZ (except 3.5.1, for some reason) can send and receive files to/from the SE phone without issue, so I know they can talk to each other.

From my limited knowledge of linux, my understanding is that the I/O to the /dev files are controlled by drivers compiled into the kernel.  From my experimentations it's obvious that another aspect of the ir driver is used for ppp comms than simple file transfer.  

Time for the naive question.  How would I get the functionality of earlier cacko kernels into the OZ kernel for /dev/ircomm0?

At the moment, despite the fact that I have it set to debug, pppd returns no errors on the command line, so I don't even know what's going wrong.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Trouble-shooting advice

Hello,

I was just wondering whether anyone could offer basic trouble-shooting advice for when applications 'just wont work' on OZ.  I've gone through all the ROMs, and I've settled on OZ 3.3.5 for a balance of stability and functionality I want.  I started with OZ from word go and was a bit disheartened at the amount of apps that I had problems installing / running.

My issues at the moment revolve around Opie Media player (from the oz testing feed for collie) and Jeode 1.10.7 from ZUG downloads (+ jeode demos 1.10.6).

Opie media player finds my mp3s on the sd card without difficulty.  I select an mp3 to play and the player gui launches for a split second then disappears, returning me to the mp3 selection screen.

Jeode and jeode demos install successfully.  I get the extra tab, but neither of the demos run when selected.  No SIGSERV, no flash up on the screen, nothing.

I think I'm the closest thing to 'just an end user that the *nix' world has.  I know a symlink from a dir and I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty, though.  Is there any kind of logging I could switch on, or can I up the error level so I can see what the issue is?  

I would have thought that given that the hardware is identical on all 5500s there shouldn't be any complilation issues for the apps.  Am I a bit naive?

General Discussion / chmod on /proc tree

Hello,
I hope you can help me.  This is very frustrating.  I\'m trying to change the permissions on a sub-dir of /proc under cacko 64-0 on a 5500.  It runs the command without issues, but ls -al shows no change.  

I\'m trying this as root.  It wont let me create a file, so I thought it might be permissions on the dir.

Sharp ROMs / Newbie question: Sony ericsson patch on new cacko rom 5500

Has anyone had difficulty running the proc modification for the sony-ericsson patch on the new cacko rom for the 5500?

echo 1 ] /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window

I get the error

cannot create /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window: directory non-existent.

I\'ve tried this under the normal bash prompt and as su. /proc/sys/net/irda/ exists but I can\'t create anything in there (returns \'no such file or directory\'). To be fair, I\'m not sure whether I\'d be able to touch a file in proc anyway.

Am I doing something stupid? This worked with the tkr rom and the previous cacko kernel. Using 64-0 on a 5500.
