Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Need Pdf & Chm Reader
« on: February 01, 2005, 05:48:51 am »
Hello,

I'm getting this complaint too, and I can't find t1lib on pdai.org.  What's the full url you added to ipkg.conf?  Or if it has been removed from the pdai mirror, does anyone have a copy of it?

Thanks,

Harry.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bluetooth On Opie?
« on: January 24, 2005, 10:59:36 am »
Let's imagine for a second that out of frustration with trying to dial out through my sony ericsson phone over infra red, I went and bought a bluetooth card.  Let's say that it turns out that the belkin bluetooth card also needs a kernel patch.  Let's imagine that I'm now prepared to throw cash at the problem (not being a programmer) and will now go out and buy a second bluetooth card.

I can't seem to track down a billionton card for sale anywhere.  Are there any other bluetooth cards that have not given any trouble under 3.5.2?

Harry.

btw I think the amount of work put into this project by the small number of developers is incredible, and I'm not criticising.  I'm laughing at my own bad luck.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Suggest Low Spec Opengl Applications
« on: January 24, 2005, 05:53:56 am »
Hello,

Was just wondering.  How likely is it that something like blender could be eventually be ported to the zaurus?  It's an opengl based 3d modeling package.  Open source of course.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Allo Coredump

Thanks for the info.  I know it's not specifically your area.

By the way, a work around for the Dir View issue (if anyone only uses dir view in opie-eye) is to edit /root/Settings/opie-eye.conf.

Change

Code: [Select]
[main]
Last View = Digital Camera

to

Code: [Select]
[main]
Last View = Dir View

and start the app again.
Unfortunately, if you change off Dir View and then try to change back, it crashes as before.

Regards,

Harry.

Hi CoreDump,

Still very impressed with the cardfs implementation.  Just a couple of problems since moving to opie 1.1.8 that weren't there in 1.1.7.  Opie Eye bombs out on a SIGSEGV when you try to change from camera to Dir view, and Tetrix doesn't always remove the blocks from the screen on a complete line, even though it 'knows' they are gone ie you can put another block in it's place.

Starting opie-eye from the command line gives the following when changing from camera to dir view:

Code: [Select]
: QuickLauncher invoked as: opie-eye
: mainwindow constructor done
: ===
: PIconView::polish()
: ====
: WARNING:   StartPath2
Segmentation fault

Not sure whether these are app problems or opie problems, tbh.  Not hugely important in the grand scheme of things but i thought that the tetrix issue might be indicative of general refresh problems.  Haven't found any other example of it though.

On another matter, do you have any idea whether the opie login screen has been dropped altogether?

Thanks,

Harry.

Where is opie-login?  Can't find it in the feeds.

I'd be interested in a login being required on boot, as it did on earlier versions.  The "login automatically" option in setting->security doesn't seem to do anything, nor does changing the root password.

Thanks

Harry.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bluetooth On Opie?

Has anyone got bluetooth working on 3.5.2 w/ opie 1.1.7 on collie?  If so could you post a basic howto?

I just got a belkin bluetooth card.  I was expecting a similar setup to the irda but I don't seem to be getting anywhere.  Card is picked up as a compaq bluetooth sleeve.

New to bluetooth and I'm not sure where to go from here.  Ultimate goal is to dial out through my phone.

Thanks,

Harry.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser For 3.5.2 Opie
« on: December 11, 2004, 09:57:27 am »
For me, useful things would be
vnc client (have to support windows + *nix environments),
  nmap +wellenreiter,
  good wireless support (already there)
openssh (dropbear gives sftp errors when using pscp from windows.
good bluetooth support (unsure about whether that's in place),
and of course the browser.

A MAJOR selling point for me would be good authentication / privacy options in the event of theft, but to be honest I'd have difficulty defining examples of this.

That being said, the top 4 on the list are dealt with in the new Hentges + default cardfs solution that coredump and teletubbie have released.

I'm going to give rdesktop a shot in the near future.  Should be easier than tunnelling vnc through ssh (ssssllllooooowwwwww - and I've not got it working on the zaurus yet   ).  If that works out it'd replace vnc client on the above list.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

Thanks for all the great work.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Browser For 3.5.2 Opie
« on: December 11, 2004, 05:44:40 am »
@Mickeyl

I like the idea of a browser by default for one reason only.  Packages are a pain to get down through normal means (we have very strict network policies in here   ) and it's much easier to bring them down over wireless.  Wireless needs authentication, and a browser install seems to be the easiest way to set up the facility to authenticate.

But then, I don't use the PIM.  Ever.  My goals have always been 'laptop substitute'

And a browser is a quick win if you want to show off what a zaurus can do.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.2 - Problems, Fixes, Questions

Absolutely brilliant!

Small thing, typo on the how-to.  It says cardfs_installer.sh when it's actually cardfs_install.sh.

I'm a bit fuzzy about all of this, but if I installed a browser (say, links for example) wanted to create a cardfs image, I'd just tar and gzip the dirs on my sd card and name it cardfs-?????.bin?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / The Documentation Apocalypse
« on: October 28, 2004, 11:54:25 am »
Hi,

Glad to see this taking off.  I'm breathing a sigh of relief tbh.

I know it's a little early to get into something so detailed, but it's perfectly obvious that the reason that people use OZ over other roms is the versatility.  I myself bought the zaurus so I could ssh into work from a secure box and troubleshoot without having to bring a laptop.  Still the dream...

With that in mind, I think it'd be useful for a poll on what people use their zaurus for (or intend to use their zaurus for) and set up HOWTOs / guides on getting from 0 to functioning in x easy steps.

I'd guess that some of the major ones would be:
1. Functioning pda with pim
2. Portable wireless internet box (+ wardrive functionality, in some cases)
3. Sysadmin/operation tool
4. others...

Of course everyone would ultimately want a combination of such functionality, and there would be a common setup for most of the options.  There would be branches for whether you'd need extra / different functionality and so on...

The main aim, though, would be to document up to a run level that is of use to the user e.g. I don't use the pim functionality at all.  Current setups always leave me with a glowing box that is of no use to me, and I go back to my list of saved favorites and local txt files (product of hours in this forum) to get to where I want to be  I'm sure other people feel the same.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Compilation question
« on: October 14, 2004, 10:00:37 am »
Thanks for all the info, will definitely give it a go.

I'm afraid in my delight at finding the fix for the biggest problem I have with the zaurus (i.e. dialup over infra red for a sony ericsson phone) I didn't notice the processor version.  I'm using a 5500.

Thanks, you've saved me a world of effort that probably would have amounted to nothing.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Compilation question
« on: October 14, 2004, 07:52:02 am »
Quick question.  I'm going to put hentges 3.3.6pre1 for experimental purposes.  The kernel link on the hentges site links to a section on openzaurus.org that isn't there any more, specifically:

http://openzaurus.org/official/experimenta...e1-2.4.18-gcc3/

Can I use the OE kernel?  I'm hoping to compile my own to incorporate this patch for sony ericsson phones (if it isn't already there, in which case I'm boned).

Thanks

Harry.

Sorry, have answered this myself just by looking at any kernel release note.

Thanks,
