6000 - Tosa / Source For Ea-bl09 Battery
« on: September 21, 2006, 12:51:12 am »
I found mine on ebay for $55 each. I got two of them. I think that you can still have ebay notify you if a certain auction comes up. It might be worth the wait to pay 1/3 the price.

If you have perl installed, or have access to a machine with perl, or if you want to install perl, you can try The Coroners Toolkit, AKA TCT.

Sharp ROMs / Cd Rip With Z?
« on: June 01, 2006, 11:34:02 pm »
It should work, but getting the CD drive to work with the IDE adeapter requires a module. I don't remember which one, but if someone who has one working, could post what procedures they used, that would be great. Space would be easy though, you can use a hard drive over usb at the same time as the CD.

I'm glad that you found someone to help you with shipping.
I didn't see the 8 GB card in you list at the end of your signature though. Did it end up working well, or was it one of those "for use with reader only" microdrives?

Just curious.

Mind you the main problem is obviously Micro$haft software.

I think you are right about that! :-)

However there isn't anything like zone alarm running. I checked it with a different XP laptop though and bing couldn't see that either. Do you know if the windows firewall blocks pings? That might cause it.

Here is the situation, my Z and my windows XP laptop are connected to at various times to a wireless router that has DHCP activated to get to the internet. If I want to telnet either way though I have to walk over  to the XP machine and read the IP address. I would like to not need to do that.

So I installed BING on my Z. It sees the router (WRT54G), and the other Z, but not the laptop. Any ideas why?

I can telnet Z to Z no problem. BTW both are 6Ks, both Sharp 1.12, it seems that the variable is the laptop. All machine can see the internet fine.

Thanks.

Anyone know where I put the read/write parameter

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=125710\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It seems that even when you add the read/write parameter it does not make a difference unless you are root. I usually just do whatever writing to the hard drive that I need as root from the command prompt. I have a hunch that this is related to semi-non-fully-standard original Sharp kernel ;-) Of course, I have a 6k, but it acts just like you are describing. However, if you have the "Run as root" box check on any of your Qtopia apps, they will be able to save and what-not to your USB drives.

Is there a way to save all of these old posts so that they can be read on the Z when there is no hotspot? I tried to use wget, but it didn't get the actual posts. Obviously replies would not be possible, but so many things have already been answered and solved that most of the time just searching can yield the needed info.
Idealy, not needing to set up a server to localy host the site would be great. Sort of like the offline version of the wikipedia. Maybe this is not possible, but any suggestions would be great.

5x00 Hardware / Cf Dial-up Modem Problem
« on: April 05, 2006, 07:36:45 pm »
I have the same problem once in a while. I have voicemail on the phone line. If there are messages, the alert tones are enough to throw off the dialing sequence. Try picking up the handset of your house phone and listening for a dial tone, then hit connect on the Z. See if you can hear it dialing and/or handshaking with the other modem. Hope this helps.

6000 - Tosa / Bottleneck?
« on: August 09, 2005, 02:52:05 am »
I just recently noticed this and it struck me as odd. Perhaps others may be able to point out the significance(if any), to the fact that when the internal wireless is on, it shows up as a device under the usb host. Is there a potential speed penalty here? For example, a usb HDD used to save files download from wireless internet connection. Or possibly when using a usb hub with keyboard, mice, and multiple storage accesories, to include a swap partition.
I know that the speed of the usb 1.1 specification is somewhere around 12 Mbit/sec, which is faster than most internet connections, even cable or dsl, but with lots of expansion can the usb traffic get to be to much of a burden for the 6k?

Just a thought

Does your hard drive have the abilty to use external power? I use a 2.5" HD with my 6000 and if I power the drive externaly, it works, otherwise it doesn't. With the laptop however, there is no problem using bus power. I guess the Z just can pump enough power through its usb host. If it uses a Y-connector for usb power you can try pluging the power side into the laptop and only the data side into the hub attached to your 6000. Just a suggestion.
You may have a different issue though. Did this particular 2.5 " HD work before on the Z's bus power, like under the Sharp ROM?

6000 - Tosa / Configuring Qtella
« on: May 01, 2005, 08:29:36 pm »
I may be in the same boat that you are. I installed Qtella, but it never seems to connect to anything. Incidentally, the display only seems to show about 80% of the screen regardless, of resolution or orientation.

In any event, I have an idea that the issue lies somewhere in the list of servers for it to connect to. The reason that I think this is that I have both Limewire and Gnucleus on my laptop. Gnucleus can find only a fraction of the hosts that LW can. They both run and connect properly, servers are in a list for G, but I can't find a list for LW. I think if we could find out what LW looks for we could get other clients to look there too.

Hopefully there is information here that someone will find useable.

6000 - Tosa / Confirmed Impact Resistance
« on: April 26, 2005, 05:31:59 pm »
Here is some info.

My 6k sustained a fall to concrete as I was stepping out of a pickup truck. Which is certain to be at the upper extreme of the published 3 ft level. I was worried at first because both the SD and CF cards were knocked out of it, as was the flip screen cover knocked off. The only permanent damage seems to have been the plastic case surrounding the socket for the stylus, which was dented. However, once I got the stylus out, I shaved away the caved in section and it works fine again.

I just thought I'd post this little testimonial pertaining to the durability of the Z. :)

Well, it's good to see that there are signs of life peeking through this terminal frost. Farmington Hills and Lapeer seem pretty few and far between for Z users. At least I know I'm not alone. :-)
