I just turned on my SL-C860 for the first time since 2007 and it still runs fine.

It's running Cacko ROM.

How to reset to factory defaults so I can sell it?

Thanks!
Hi and welcome back bobo, judging from your join date you're one of the oldest users here on the forum
Both the Sharp ROM and Cacko have a restore backup function, but it only works if you have previously done a backup yourself. Failing that, the easiest way would be to do a full NAND restore. Trisoft still has NAND backups for all the Zaurus models, including the SL-C860: http://www.trisoft.de/en_c860howto.htm. These are backups of the english version of the Sharp ROM. Note that, from what I have seen, the NAND backup tool can only recognize older SD card up to 2GB of size, and the Cacko installer supports only up to 1GB cards. Bigger CF cards might work, though.

Thank you!!

Installed that Nand backup from the link you gave me using the flash after boot method. All works. Much appreciated.

Now to find a buyer

Windows Issues / Sl-c860 1.40j Rom, Intellisync, Oulook Sync Prob.
« on: January 27, 2005, 01:16:11 am »
I have an SL-C860 Sharp 1.40J ROM convered to English with StuBear's script. I have Windows XP Pro SP1. I have connected the unit to the PC with USB TCP/IP Advanced connection. No problems pinging or using the Zaurus File Transfer application. But I can't get Outlook 2000 to sync.

I am using the USB driver and Intellisync 3.2E for the Zaurus 5500 package as suggested. I can select my Outlook 2000 Contacts folder OK, but when I start the sync, it goes through the motions saying "preparing records" (or similar), then when I start the transfer, I get a message that says:

"Please wait. Writing large amounts of data." Then nothing - this message stays on the screen for hours. I have tried folders with only 1 contact, Calendar, Notes - always the same problem.   I have removed the Intellisync software and driver, cleaned out the registry, re-installed, same problem.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Sharp ROMs / Japanese support on Cacko ROM
« on: September 05, 2004, 05:20:34 am »
>>How long will they be offered there? Will you make updates?

I will leave them up indefinitely.

As for updates, I am a linux newbie so I wouldn't know where to start.

If I get all the Japanese stuff working OK on Cacko ROM, I will document the procedure on my website for the next newbie.

Sharp ROMs / Japanese support on Cacko ROM

I have them. I tried them on an older Cacko ROM once, and it didn't work as in the Sharp ROM, so I'm not using Cacko (but perhaps you have more success). I could try to upload them here, but as they're 22 MB together, I wont do that now.
I have some web space, if you don't mind uploading. I will leave them up for other users. If OK, I can PM you with the details.

I am not sure what the rules of this forum are - whether you're allowed to upload such big files.

Thank you very much.

Sharp ROMs / Japanese support on Cacko ROM
« on: August 30, 2004, 07:07:07 am »
Hi all,

I am looking for some files mentioned here:

http://externe.net/zaurus/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1430

They are: japanese-dict_1.0_arm.ipk and japanese-support_1.0_arm.ipk

These files put back the Japanese stuff from the original ROM.

I can't find them on the net. If anyone has a copy, I would appreciate if you could make them available.

Thank you very much.

My goal: full Japanese support, and also Cyrillic support (I want to use Cacko because it supports Cyrillic input).  I can't get Cyrillic input working on the original ROM. I have a SL-C860 purchased from Japan.

Sharp ROMs / newbie Cacko ROM questions (please be gentle)
« on: August 13, 2004, 02:16:20 am »
Hi,

I am a SL-C860 newbie. I've had it for a while and am ready to take the next step - Cacko ROM installation.

Questions:

1. I want English but I also want full Japanese support (reading, handwriting recognition, Jisho, translator, etc.). Is this possible? This link seems to indicate it is (http://externe.net/zaurus/forum/viewtopic.php?t=602&highlight=sash+rom+usb) but the files needed are no longer available. Can I get them anywhere?

2. Does the Cacko ROM support synching with Outlook? I can't get this working properly under the normal ROM

3. Is the Cacko ROM still under development? Where is the main source of information about it?

4. How much room does the Cacko ROM take up compared to the standard Sharp ROM my unit originally had?

5. Is there a list of features and software contained in the Cacko ROM?

You can tell I am a newbie so any other advice is appreciated. Thank you!
