Since the upgrade to the forum I am stuck in the "Posts in this topic" mode.  How do I switch back to the display all posts in a topic that I had before the upgrade?  Thank

I think you're talking about "outline" view.  If you click the "Options" button on the right towards the top of the window and select the "Switch to Standard" option, I think you'll be back to the view you want.

Then go to Tools->Options->Content, click the "Advanced..." button next to Enable Javascript, and disable page move/resize

Or enter the URL about:config, scroll down to dom.disable_window_move_resize and double-click the value to change it from false to true.

Sharp ROMs / How Can I Edit /root/.profile

If I try to rename or delete .profile I get : Read-only file system.

I think the Sharp ROM is configured with a /home/root/ directory, which should contain the file that you need to edit.  I don't have my wife's Zaurus handy to check, but I'm going to guess that /root is part of a filesystem that may be used for initial booting but is kept read-only.  /home/root/ probably replaces the /root directory at some later stage in the booting process.

It is -extremely- important to do the following when formatting the hard disks --- mke2fs -j ---   If you do not enable journaling on the filesystem, you will get the HDD Error.  If you do not copy the files into a .sys directory on each drive, you will get the HDD error.    The Zaurus C3x00 is really picky about this, when using the Cacko/Sharp rom.

So, remember:

First partition (/dev/hda1) is cylinders 1-20 type 83
Second partition (/dev/hda2) is cylinders 21-40 type 83
Third partition (/dev/hda3) is the rest of the drive, type c

What if you format ext3?  I assume that since ext3 is a journaling fs (I think it's actually just ext2 + journaling) you shouldn't need to do anything additional.  Let me know if I'm wrong, because if I am, then I probably fscked up my drive.

Does anyone know where I can get a Z nowadays? pricejapan seems to have stopped "stocking" them. I don't really want to buy via European or N American importers as I'm based in HK.

GeekStuff4U.com appears to have the C1000 & C3200 available.  I ordered my C1000 from them and didn't have any problems.

I would definitely recommend this battery, especially at that price.

I didn't notice the part about free worldwide shipping.  I figured the shipping & handling charges would be the deal breaker, but if the listed price is the total amount you pay, that really is a great deal!

Now I'm wishing I had a battery charger!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cf11h Wifi Card Installation On Beta4

BTW, I read a few things about SDHC from time to time, but nothing about high capacity CF cards.  I guess they're supported as-is ?  An 8/12/16Mb CF card would turn my Zaurus into a nice photobank.

I'm not aware of any issues with high capacity CF cards.  The Zaurus seems to be more picky about SD cards, and the SDHC cards seem to be a slightly different standard than the "old" SD cards.  I have a couple of 4GB SD cards working, but these are large capacity SD cards - not SDHC cards.

As far as CF cards, I haven't had a problem with any of the ones I've tried.  I haven't had any problems with the 16GB card I've used to replace my microdrive (yet... fingers still crossed!).  I also have a 4GB CF card, a 4GB microdrive, and  a 6GB microdrive (worked internally, now works in the slot), all different brands and no problems.  

Incidentally, I believe that CF is a touch faster than SD on the Z, due to how the SD interface is implemented.  Someone can please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!  It's actually been a pretty decent winter so far.  It hit -44 for a couple days, but now it's back up to the -1's.

I thought it was cold in the Chicago area this morning (low single digits).  Thanks for the reality check.

Some people seem to have good luck with the Ambicom card, but a number of people have experienced this problem.  This thread has some info, but I haven't found anything to help me.  I've flashed the firmware on the card a few times while trying to find a version that works.  I've gone back to my Symbol card, which works great but doesn't support WPA (the only reason I tried upgrading to the Ambicom card).

I even went out to buy a 2gig SD card so I made sure that I was able to use that to install my roms and it doesn't even recognize it? WHAT SD CARD CAN I USE?!?!?

If you're running a stock Sharp ROM, you can't use an SD card larger than 1GB.  I'm pretty sure that the SD driver for the Sharp ROM can be upgraded to support larger cards.  

I don't believe I've had any problems with the different SD cards I've tried in the Z, but I understand that there are some cards that it doesn't like.  I've used Patriot, Transcend, and probably another brand or two of SD card that my wife is now in possession of.  This page has some info on compatibility.

Personally, I have always used CF for flashing or for making a NAND backup, so I have little experience with using SD for that.  However, I'm doubtful that you'd be able to use a 2GB SD card for flashing because of the size.  When I got my Z I found a couple of cheap 512MB CF cards and a multi-format card reader, which was really helpful.  For one thing, the card reader supports a higher transfer rate than the Z's USB port.  If you shop around, I'm sure you could find a deal.  The smaller capacity cards don't have much demand since the larger cards have come down in price.

Thanks for responding, that is very reassuring!  
Have you been using it just to charge the batteries, or have you run your Zaurus and charged your batteries at the same time?

I use it for both.  I have a CF network card that I use if I'm going to be connected to my LAN for an extended time for transferring files, accessing data files on the Z using the desktop version of the PIM apps, or running ssh or VNC.  If it's going to be networked for an extended period, I'll usually plug it in with the EA72 charger so that I'm not limited by the battery.

The battery seems to charge much more slowly if the unit is on, but I've never noticed any problems while on the charger.

Anyone have any? I have searched the forum up and down since I got my new SL-C1000, and I'm perhaps being a little bit paranoid over this. I know the adapter is not rated for U.S. voltage, but that there is evidence that it can handle it. Also, it seems nobody has ever been able to provide hard evidence (or at least plausible anecdotal evidence) that the EA-72 adapter killed their Zaurus.

Still...should I get a PSP adapter for it instead? Have any of you used the EA-72 for a long time and without problems?

I've been using the EA72 with my C1000 since I got it, and now with my C3200.  I've never noticed any problems.  I actually have a charger that's rated for U.S. voltage, but the EA72 was a bit smaller and seemed to produce 5V more accurately, so that's what I've been using for at least 18 months now.

Hmm... Drives /dev/hdxy (x being a letter and y being a number) sounds fishy. Normally the drives don't appear unless their inserted, and I can guarantee that you don't have three IDE disks. Maybe something in udev is corrupted/messed up? Could somebody else with pdaXii13 confirm that having all of those disks present is not normal?

I just checked on my C3200 and it does list the devices that jdmoorman described.  Strange, since my desktop system certainly doesn't list that many.

hmmm... looks like I might need a better soldering kit and less coffee.

Didn't someone mention using a conductive "silver paint" to do something similar?  Sounds like it would be a lot easier than trying to solder that.

I think I found the post I remembered.  Apparently there was an issue with the conductivity of the "paint," but it might work for this application since the resistors would be in direct contact with each other and we're talking about much higher resistances than the 10 Ohms from pelrun's post.

I stand corrected!  

You may stand corrected, but if the 20cm estimate is accurate, you might as well just hit the buttons on the receiving device with your finger. 20cm = 0.2m = 7.9 in.  Kind of a shame, really.  I think the Z could support a pretty cool universal remote control app.

It's a shame that this item clearly indicates that it's a proprietary card.

EDIT: Found this one, which appears to still be in production.  I wonder if the company (which seems to be having the device manufactured) would be willing to cough up with specs?
