Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 - Wifi Issues
« on: January 21, 2006, 10:51:13 pm »
A quick note on this:
I have been messing around with this all day and the following got the card to work: Trying to fix the "Vcc mismatch" problem,  I added this line to my /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf file:
   module "hostap_cs" opts "ignore_cis_vcc=1"
and restarted pcmcia as mentioned above.

BEWARE: This added an amazing amount of error like messages to dmesg and - The first time I inserted the card after this change It connected as configured but the zaurus UI seemed to freeze up. I pulled the card and the zaurus returned to normal. I reinserted the card and now it is working great.

How did you do it?

I get a Vcc Mismatch (in dmesg) when I insert mine. (Mine also works under OZ but not in Cacko)

Hardware Mods / Transplanting Screen From 6000 Into 3100
« on: January 20, 2006, 10:29:32 am »
Sorry for being clueless,  but how would a 4inch screen fit into a 3.7inch bezel. Even if you chopped some of the frame away, would there be a large enough area?

I even own a Sharp phone (TM150 - piece of crap btw in case you are curios) and I do not want to see this place littered with the stupidity that is the world of cell phones. After having browsed some cell-phone related forums, I seriously think we would only be inviting people to
a ) Ask other people to read their instruction manual for them
b ) talk about who has the best boy-band ring tones

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.22 Runs Slower And Slower?!
« on: February 09, 2005, 10:29:12 am »
On my C750 there is a noticable performance decrease from 1.21 to 1.22.
I am not sure about memory leaks - the performance seems consistent no matter how long since my last reboot, and i always have spare RAM available. In general apps start slower, but more noticable is the extreme chopynes when scrolling a list. (for example scrolling throught the addressboook)

Was there a major update to the kernel here, or could the new images being used be a bit more cumbersome for the Z?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / display in landscape mode?
« on: March 24, 2004, 01:45:22 pm »
Sorry to dig up an extremely old post, but from what I am reading recently, there is still no automatic rotating in the X ROM. I am curious why the suggestion above never got implemented? (in other words, is it a technical reason?)

Maybe I just don\'t travel enough, but I am happy with my C750 battery.

Bottom line: if you are not using 802.11b then the battery is fine for daily usage. Remember any tech purchase is a drepreciating investment, but nothing dpereciates worse than money spent on rechargable batteries.

The only other significant difference between the 750 and 760 (the extra NAND flash) is easily overcome with an extremely cheap SD card

Regarding 760 vs. 860 absolutely save a few bucks by buying a 760, but I think you may have trouble finding a 760 for sale.

General Discussion / call to arms
« on: March 09, 2004, 02:35:43 pm »
I hope this does not come off wrong:

After going through an invloved effort to get the build system up and running, I have no idea what needs to be done.
All I now have is access to bunch of unorganized snippets of conversations that have occured in the past, a bumch of source, and a build system I do not understand well.
I am not willing to read a year worth of chat logs to try and find some direction. So, what do I do? What is the next step? Is there a page somewhere with more articulated todo\'s? (I am guessing that I may have missed something)

WI / IL / Open Zaurus?
« on: June 06, 2003, 03:46:53 pm »
I love OpenZaurus. I always think it strange that people find it hard to use, since I had more trouble with the Sharp ROMs than I did with OZ.  Who knows? OpenZaurus 3.2 was a beautiful release. Note that I am weighing it against older sharp roms. I have not used the most recent 2.

OZ does some really smart things. For example, they treat the internal ROM as a writeable root partition. This does however confuse alot of people.  They expect the ROM to be filled with stuff, but the OZ approach is actually the opposite. They put the minimal amount of things needed into the ROM and you download and install what you need.

One thing OZ does really well is it\'s config tools (i.e. the \"Settings\" tab) the package installer actually works - if you try and use the Sharp installer with an install taret other than root it fails most of the time.

offroad geek, funny how different our experiences have been. After installing the opie-wlansetup app, wireless cards on OZ are WAY easier than on the sharp rom.
