Sharp ROMs / What is pinned note on Calendar ?
« on: November 17, 2004, 10:17:46 am »
On the calendar on the cacko rom (1.21b) there are what looks like little pinned notes on some of the days.  I haven't figured out what these correspond to.  They don't seem to relate to the todo items, as days with todo items sometimes have the little notes and sometimes don't.

Any ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Open Zaurus 3.5.1 ROM Upgrade on C860

If you want a pda that works without any messing around, just use the cacko rom.

P.S.  No slight against OZ or PDAXROM, just a better path than doing the english conversion to the original rom.

Dear AA

Try putting Cacko's install.sh and tools.tar on an SD or CF card. Then boot to the installer. One of the options is to format the user partition. Afterward, reboot.  This may clear things up.

I had a slightly different but similar problem and that was the advice I got - It worked like a charm.

Sharp ROMs / What would you like to see in Cacko 1.22 ROM?

I don't know if the PIM functionality is in scope for Cacko 1.22, but there are a few things I'd like to see fixed.

1. Todo and Addressbook - the Category menu should list the categories for selection rather than having to go to a sub-screen with the combo box ( 5 screen taps )

2. Todo - the check box on the main list should be smaller when using smaller fonts so more lines can be viewed.

3. Addressbook - tapping on the 2nd column header in the main list should sort rather than select new columns.  (I keep name and company 1st and second) the last column could be left so you can pick different data.

4. Calendar - use smaller fonts for the day numbers and move to right of cell (like KO/PI) to allow 3 events displayed per day

5. Use the selected font size generally on all the entry screens and menus.

Just my 2 cents worth.

If modifying the PIM is not in scope for this release, perhaps someone can point me to the source so I can make the changes myself.  (note that although I'm an old hack - 25 years programming - I've not built anything for the Z yet so it would be a while)
No, it's not in the scope because there is no source code for Sharp PIMs available...
If there is no source for the sharp PIM how in the world did it get cleaned up so nicely?

Kudos to the soul who converted it from Japanese without source.

I remember doing the manual conversion to english when I bought my Z and also remember using the version released with TKC.  The version on Cacko is sweet in comparision.

Anyone have source for either of these packages?

I'm going to try my hand at some Z coding and I have a couple of apps I'm going to build.

Anyone know the magic algorithm to decode the datetimes in the databook.xml file?

for instance start="1098745200"  means 2004 October 25, 7:00 pm.

How do these work?

sorry - I don't have a solution for you, but I've always wondered, who can you call with this program?  Just other kphone users? Or is there a bridge out into the phone system so you can call anyone?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus and Linux
« on: September 26, 2004, 01:04:11 am »
I'll add a bit to that.

You are right in that most programs need to be compiled for the Zaurus, but that is true for a lot of the different flavours of linux generally.

However, as this is the case, you will find that most popular programs that can be run on the smaller footprint of the Zaurus have already been compiled for this platform and if there is something that you are interested in and if you don't know how to compile it, some helpful soul will compile it for you.

Note that this is similar to windows where you can't just run office on a pda running windows ce.  The difference being that for windows, you won't typically find the source that you'd need to compile.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Partition sizing ????

And you don't want to do this.

So, the 64 megs of ram is for running programs just like a pc, whereas the flash is like a hard drive in that you store the operating system, program files and data on.

Now I wonder why you can't make a 128 meg root partition.  Is this the same as with hard drives where there is some amount of lost space due to filing overhead?

Hold on now.  When I flash a rom, it creates a /home in the user partition with lots of stuff in it.  If I make my root partition 121 megs, will that /home be put in the root partition.  Or is that why the max size is 121 megs, so there is 7 megs to put a /home directory on the remaining which is the user partition?

Excellent.  I'm beginning to understand.

Now, I have an 860.  If I wanted to have a root directory with the maximum size and put my /home there, what size would that be? I understand that it has 192 megs of memory.  Can I make the root partition 192 megs?
