Er, where\'s OZ?
I use it  As for why? I used it on my ipaq before buying the Zaurus and was happy with it. Figured i\'d stick with what works.

Cxx0 Hardware / Difference betwen c760 and c860.

So can the displays of the C760 and C860 be seen in the daylight or not?

I\'m ready to trade my SL-5600, but daylight visibility is a must...
If you turn brightness up to maximum it is viewable. It\'s a pretty dim image, but if you needed to look something up you could. If the primary place you\'d look things up is outdoors, I\'d avoid a 760

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kernel source

I would use the 860 source for any pxa based model.

The line second from last is the file name not the source name. Leave it as is.

Richard

I\'ll second this. the 860  source maintains the drivers for the other pxa devices and includes some useful bug fixes.

Hi all,

I\'m purchasing a SL-C860 ROM any day now, so I\'m a complete newbie with Linux/ARM PDA devices. Has anyone here tried using familiar on a Zaurus? It being based on Debian and aparently having access to all Debians ARM packages sounds very appealing.

Signed,
A very excited penguin
Familiar isnt all that different from OpenZaurus beyond some basic configurations.

5x00 General discussions / 5600 processor question

I\'ve been casually shopping for pda\'s for a few months.
The sl 5600  at Amazon looks like a good deal.

Questions:

There are some reviews around that sounds
like maybe those are being sold with a processor that
has a bug?

How long has the 5600 been around? Is it due to be
obsolited soon?

cad

Some of the 5600s have the bug, some don\'t. The ones that don\'t use the pxa255 cpu and not the pxa250. There really isnt any way to tell which you will get though.

6000 - Tosa / Go for the 6000L or hold out for the 6000W?

I have yet to find a Japanese retailer that will sell/ship overseas.)
I bought my C750 from a Japanese retailer on ebay. He says he can ship the 6000W for around $910, but he claims there\'s not much demand for them. (at $910, I\'m not surprized). But if you\'re interested I can send you his email address.

Cheers,
Jerry
The pricing is really a bummer. I\'d considred getting a 6000w for the bluetooth and the transreflective screen, but a 900 bucks it\'s definitly a no go.

COME ON GUYS! There must be more users than that!

If you have a 5500, buy it.  If you have a C series and want it, shall we start a petition?

Everyone should start emailing them and get them moving on this.

Ever considered the simple answer that the developer doing the ports doesnt own a clamshell devices and doesnt think it would be worth the time and money to buy one and update the games for it?

Have you checked the Intel\'s document anyway? There are 3 revisions there: B1, B2, and C0 (p. 10-11 there). I suppose that there are some pxa250 out there which are the revision C0. And, just based on my naive thinking, those chips can run the kernel w/o cache errata patch with no problem. Is this the case? Can someone give more clarification?

The fact that there is possibility for the cache bug to come out (for revision B1, B2) is, according to me, \"good enough\" reason to not use the special kernel for now. Don\'t get me wrong--I appreciate the presence of that kernel, and I wish I have time to mess around and try it out, but unfortunately it cannot be in my priority list now.

It\'s only fixed in C0. You can refer to http://www.intel.com/design/pca/applicatio...dt/27853405.pdf, you\'re looking for #100 on page 12

In the same paper, however, it is indicated that the problem has been solved. Does anybody know what this means? My understanding is that for SOME revisions of the pxa250 the problem has been fixed. Is this correct? And if it has been fixed, which was the first revision when the problem was fixed?
Well the bug was fixed, but they used that as an opportunity to stop calling it the pxa250  So all pxa250s do suffer from this.

Sharp Japan, Sharp UK, and Sharp USA are pretty much separate entities that often share product designs between themselves.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Using debian-arm binaries

yes, you can use them. I have a program i wrote to convert the debian packages to IPK\'s. You can download the IPK for it on my website.http://dtors.ath.cx/index.php?page=deb2ipk.php

Upgrade the ipkg release used in the X11 image. The more recent ipkgs ( last 6 months or so) support debs directly.
