General Discussion / Zsi2 Layout Voting

How do we know the vote has not been rigged and the electronic voting system has not been tampered with.

If my side looses, I want a recount

General Discussion / Is the SLC3000/C860 fragile?

Good point. I too get a little twitchy as I hand it over to someone.

Having said that, not actually had any returns or requests for getting a unit fixed with a broken hinge. We do include a big sticker with our units warning against rotating it the wrong way though.

Not seen any posts on the forums to suggest it has happened very often either. Perhaps everyone is paranoid about it and so are extra carefull.

Dropped our demo C750 quite a few time now and so far it is still working.

I'd say it is a lot more durable than people think. But it does depend on luck as well so don't get too careless.

Always been indoors, so never straight onto a concrete floor from a great height, but other furniture on the way down...

Classic reason for my "dropping" it :

Still plugged into for charge and I forget/catch the cable while going off somewhere. Sent the unit flying good and proper a couple of time.

I'm kind of surprised it still works ok considering. It is a bit squeaker and the hinge is a bit loose compared to when I got it but it still works fine. Wife has taken to it, so will probably inherit it soon.

General Discussion / Converting Psion Agenda & Contacts/Data files

Not had a Psion 5 for a long time (Never had one actually, but had something called a Geofox that worked the same)

I recall chating with one of our Zaurus C860 buyers that wanted to get their Psion 5 database data into the Zaurus.

Pointed them to Portabase. They seamed quite happy. That is, they were able to get the Psion 5 Data app. data out and then into Portabase and working nicely.

Don't know how they went about it, but thought it worth a mension. I assume they just did an export then an import...

I'm sure the pins are off center.

So I assumed putting the basttery in upside down would be like not putting it in at all, since you would not get 2 contacts ?

General Discussion / My new SL550 & Socket BT card
« on: October 24, 2004, 07:03:49 am »
Had a customer call me the other day with trouble getting it working with cacko.

Problem was that they downloaded the edited file off the site, but somehow the file ended up in Dos format. Need to be sure it is in Unix format.

Otherwise the file has ^M instead of carriage returns causing it to mess up.

After that, card worked fine.

Deals and Great Z Buys / eXpansys experiences?

My experiance with Expansys UK has been very good. At least for items that are in stock.

Shipped promptly, no problem. Did ship a European version of a product once by accident. But when I contacted them the sent a UK Adaptor, which is fair enough...

Only problem with them I find is their "Pre-Release" and Estimated time till in stock.

Estimated time can sometimes keep going back. i.e. Estimated in stock in 7 days. 7 days later still 7 days, 7 days later still 7 days....
Not always, just sometimes...

Pre-Orders generally are waste of time. They seam to stick anything that looks interesting on Pre-Release regardless of if they are ever likely to get them. Just a way of getting you on their system in case they do.

Still had the SL-C700 on Prerelease last time I checked

Good to know we arn't the only ones that get overwhelmed with too many emails...

General Discussion / Cacko 1.21 breaks Bluez
« on: October 17, 2004, 11:42:29 am »
Thanks for the feedback.

Yes Cacko already has Bluez stuff installed (though a little differently).

But having seen posts saying they had socket card working, thought they might already have serial file installed as well perhaps to different location.

Hence the question about anyone got Socket G working.

Good to know the instructions make some sense

Just to confirm, you did not install all the bluez drivers did you ?

If so, then it looks like you have a solution (don't).

General Discussion / Cacko 1.21 breaks Bluez

We got our "Blue Monkey" cards from expansys. Problem is, they soon became the same as CC&C cards.

Apparently, Expansys own the BlueMonkey name and so they decide what a BlueMonkey card is

I assume they had a big batch of the "old style" BlueMonkey cards which has now expired and now sell these ones under that brand.

New ones are much nicer to be honest. Plastic end on old one tends to come off too easily and these are a liitle more descrete/in tune with Zaurus appearance...

Problem with Cacko rom is if drifts off from the standard bluez driver install. Has some nice touchs (GUI autodetect MAC), but makes things complicated in terms of getting standard solutions working.

Not got time at the moment (struggling with Sony U50/U70 English install), but since it is basically bluez, I'm sure it must just be a question of finding the right bit to edit.

Do the newer Socket "G" cards work no hitch under Cacko Sharp ROM ?

Since they require installation of the same serial file under standard roms.
Would assume it would be a case of locating the same file under Cacko and puttin in the entry there...

Wouldn't this indicate USB host functionality?

I'm guessing it has USB Host, but they arn't making a song and dance about it because it doesn't actually support anything (Yet).

Has anyone got any useful functionality from the USB host on the 6000 ?

Looking throught he 6000 thread, the only thing I could spot was an Archos Hard drive...

General Discussion / Sharp C-860 VS Sony UX-50

If GPS is a big thing for you, then (IMHO) Zaurus is not the unit to go for. At least at the moment.

I use it myself with a Bluetooth card and GPS Receiver, but the software is nothing like what you can get for "Mainstream" devices.

Just to clarify, I am talking about roadmap navigation software. Which is not just GPS (which just tels you where you are)

I use a program called qpeGPS with some generated maps.
Still a bit buggy. OK when it is working, but seams to stop every now and then and I havn't quite figured out how to fix it. Seams to fix itself at leasure...

This does not tell you where to go, just shows you where you are on the maps you have uploaded.

Main reason for lack of GPS (I think) seams to be the high cost of maps using vector data for  developers.

I recall a couple of companies saying they were looking at the possibility of doing something for the Zaurus, but not seen anything concrete...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Socket BlueTooth?

On sharp based roms, for G card you needed to install the serial file from the bluez packages.

Not sure if that would wok in in this context.
