Zaurus - pdaXrom / Important Update...
« on: June 21, 2006, 04:02:03 am »
Busy, busy! - The sources are available and if anyone fixes anything i will personally make sure the fixes get implemented into the build - we are moving to SVN asap but until then.

Btw. the biggest problems arent in the kernel stuff which Sash is focused on - it so many "experts" are disliking the pdaXrom i can't believe why they just spend like 20-30 minutes looking at the preferences programs which are all written in python and make them better and maybe even in C. All the current python stuff were just quick workarounds until we had the time to code them in C - acutally Zumi is working on that but im sure he could use some help. http://mail.pdaxrom.org/soc/

Its just a matter of looking how the python scripts does stuff and then make that prettier and into C native apps.

Sash has got a job and will be spending sometime on getting settled in with the new job and stuff so there might be a small development stop during the next 2-3 weeks.

After that all should be back to normal.

Once more i would like to remind everybody about the need for donations for hadware and help keep pdaXrom on the track. The new job will no cause pdaXrom development delays - but at the same it will not pay for anything on pdaXrom development.

Quick status update from Sash - he has fixed the exit bugs and a couple of other small things. He is working on look & feel and wifi utils - and is hoping that he also has time to fix the card storage kernel module today too.

So there you have it - he is working hard ...

Sash - Mickey was not pointing at anybody but making a general statement.

MickeyL i agree with you with some of the things.

Open source / Linux people have one big problem - leadership and central control but thats also why strange project and solutions popup - in a microsoft world these would be killed. He he

Unfortunately (not so simple) it doesn't work in some instances!
What's the 'XMMS' selection on the blanker menu supposed to be for? Doesn't seem to do anything on or off.

Thanks for the help.

The XMMS checkbox allows the hardwarekeys on the side to be mapped for XMMS playback control as far as i can recall

Both Sash, hrw, koen + more are acting like children...

So lets try and stay calm.

Its true there are hacks/patches from each the different distros in the other distros. So now lets calm down.

- OZ/OE people please refrain from posting about whats better/fixed in OZ in pdaXrom related threads - your inputs and solutions are always nice. Also please don't blame our and tell bad things about in forums or IRC - sometimes we read the IRC logs and don't like it.

- Sash stop behaving like a child - yes you do great work and you know i love it. But that doesn't allow you to act like a 7 year old. If you have any problems and think pdaXrom needs som credit or something lets us talk with the OZ people in private IRC etc.

The only thing we get from these public arguments is that the regular user thinks the Zaurus future is going down the drain.

OZ/OE: Sash has the uboot working and its pretty much fixed - so lets talk and see what it gives us.

Ps. I like both distros and use them...

We all probally know what ROM is - thats just a problem that has rissen. The same is happing on emul scenes and stuff where ROMs and Diskimages etc. are mixed up. The pdaXrom name was choosen because we thought it sounded cool and i just rendered an X in 3D studio Max ;-)

But the problem is the tone in the comments  - and what lies are we spreading Koen??? And why the constant badgering of pdaXrom and trolling in our forums - basically you should be trying to tell what good about the OZ instead of flaming all the others distros/solutions - it seems like the fact we are trying to make a userfriendly and easy to use ROM which also tries to make it easy for developers are upsetting many of the OZ/OE people. Why not just leave us and the pdaXrom users alone then - if the OZ/OE has something to offer they will probally make the switch themselves without the need for a flame of pdaXrom, right?

OZ/OE has many good things and so does the pdaXrom - users can choose and some people are even trying to combine the best of the different "worlds" - why all the hate and anger against our stuff. Okay so maybe some of the pdaXrom solutions and workarounds are not perfect or we don't use the lastest cutting edge stuff - but again it something is working okay why to fix - koen you remind me of a friend of mine who tried to flash his bios because it had a new feature (a feature he had no use for) - he ended up destroying his bios - if it ain't broke don't try to fix it.

That being said we are working on implementing the latest kernel and stuff like that and we sometimes look and learn at what you guys have implemented. Like you guys probally do at other distros - but isn't that the ideas behind Open Source/GPL etc.?
