Hi all,

I'm wondering what is the best and most succinct way to share / or /mnt over the usb network? I have RC5 and have installed samba server.  I was trying to configure the server last week but not much luck.

General Discussion / The Z as a PIC Programmer / Oscilloscope
« on: August 16, 2004, 04:38:34 am »

I am thinking of doing a project based around a PIC 16F877 microcontroller. This chip has a 8 channel 10 bit ADC, runs @ 20Mhz and has a UART. It will basically be an advanced multimeter with several interesting functions depending on my time.

I intend to make a serial programmer for it, and to program it using my Z.  As a portable device i will be using a LCD with it.

My next step would be to implement a software based solution on the Z and communicating with the microcontroller via the serial port.  This would allow me to have all the data displayed on the Z and also to perhaps implement a oscilloscope. The data could then be logged and exported as necessary.

I would ideally design the software so that it would run on a PC with little / no modifications.

Does anyone have any pointers relating to any of this?  I would like to find some data / programs that take data from the serial port on the Z. I also would especially like to find some guides on programming the 16F877 as i have never handled pics before, but i'm starting.

Cxx0 Hardware / Serial Port Pinout needed 4 project
« on: August 15, 2004, 07:03:28 am »

does anyone know the serial port pinout of the sharp plug?  I'm going to do a final year project and try to have the Z as a screen for an instrumentation system connected to a microcontroller via the serial.

Also, has anyone ever tried using a mouse over serial in X/QT?

Accessories / replacement stylus
« on: August 10, 2004, 10:39:27 am »
Agh... getting annoying. I've been stealing my girlfriends Palm Vx metal stylus (which i gave her), as i've lost my stylus and she's not impressed... where would i get another one?

BTW, i have tried the search before i posted...

I've noticed this on some posts that their details are not given, all blank (and not unregistered instead)... this has happened with posts since we moved to the new forum and not just old ones moved over.

not very annoying, but curious!

Sharp ROMs / Processor Utilisation Applet in Cacko
« on: July 08, 2004, 12:30:00 pm »
Why does the application usage on the applet alway stay at zero?  And when i clock up/down the processor the usage seems to stay the same?  Also when nothing is running the display is usually at 100%

does any else have an opinion on this?

For balance though, the memory usage tab has beautiful colours!

Software / vnc client on pc key trouble
« on: July 08, 2004, 10:45:11 am »

I use my Z regularly sitting connected via the usb cable and using vnc to control my Z...  the catch is that i'm getting confused and used to swapping the , and / on the keyboard of my pc..

X/Qt / X/Qt and capitals
« on: July 08, 2004, 10:20:05 am »
When i go to type /something in x/qt it comes up as caps and i have to go fn tab to get it to go back to small letters and this happens every time i type /

just found in vnc that also i can only type capitals in xmms?

also xmms takes ages to start a file playing for some reason, and i can't see any fonts on the menus in xmms... what am i missing?

Sharp ROMs / Sharp Music Player 1.01
« on: July 08, 2004, 08:13:16 am »
I've been looking around, particularly at all the posts Tony Olsen made about this. I want to play ogg files on my Cacko 1.21b...   I have libvorbisdec and it works grand with Kino2 so why is there a problem?

When i click on an ogg file it opens musicplayer, but music player doesn't see the file only the mp3 ones....

I apologise for asking, as this seems to have been discussed in great detail, but not actually being solved without using a different program.  thanks.

Cxx0 General discussions / TCP/IP network dropping over USB
« on: July 08, 2004, 07:46:03 am »
The network server seems to crash under a load of strain. This particulary happens when using VNC over usb. VNC will exit, indicating a dropped connection. From that point on i can't ping the zaurus or send/receive data.

I have to remove the usb plug and reconnect. It's getting pretty annoying today and frequent for some reason...

Linux Applications / Compiling on the Zaurus under Cacko
« on: July 06, 2004, 07:34:30 am »
Okay, this may seem a slightly reoccuring theme of mine. I would like to be able to compile files directly on my Zaurus...  I have found zgcc, installed it and have it working.

What other stuff do i need? The following files were mentioned to me, but where do i get them?  Well i have the zports version of SDL installed, so that should do. Can someone write a couple of files (links too?) that are needed for example to compile X stuff, SDL stuff, Qtopia stuff so that people can look here (including me!) and see exactly what they need to get.

Suggested to me where: libSDL, qte (qt/embedded), qpe (qtopia)

Thanks all.
