C1000/3x00 Hardware / Apple Ipod Mini Microdrives
« on: November 17, 2005, 12:55:32 am »
How about the 6Gb Hitachi microdrive (non-eom)? I'm using the 4Gb but would like to upgrade. Has anyone used one of those successfully?

Thanks,

gdog

I think the answer is no, but has anyone been successful in using one of these 6Gb "iPod" drives by simply plugging it into the CF slot on the C1000? I think because it's IDE it won't work, but I'm curious why it will work in a CF card reader on a PC.

Thanks,

In the mean time you can sync with the sharp apps and have them ring instead.

Will the Sharp Calendar app continue to blink the LED when an appt has not been responded to and the Z is turned off?

Thanks,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Ea-75 Ac Adaptor
« on: July 31, 2005, 11:14:18 pm »

I have read the posts on this forum about not using the EA-72 AC adaptor with the C-series Zaurii. Personally, I have owned an SL-C750 and 860 and have used this adaptor in the U.S. without any problems on both models. I now have a C-1000.

I have seen auctions on Ebay for the EA-75, seen here: EA-75 AC Adaptor

With the scarcity of EA-70S adaptors to be found, is the EA-75 considered to be a comparable adaptor for use in the U.S.?

I bought two of the EA-70s adapters from Streamlinecpus (The US affiliate of Trisoft Japan), for my C1K. They do a lot of business around here and have a good reputation.

The '70s was supplied with the US-marketed 6K. I've had no problems using mine on my C1K.

saw it somewhere, dont you have to change permissions of the opera dirctory in order to save bookmarks and settings?

A: # su
    # ln -s /opt/QtPalmtop/opera /usr/share/opera
    # chown -R zaurus /home/zaurus/.opera
    # chown -R zaurus /home/zaurus/.operasave

Just for future searches

I didn't chown mine, but I did have to chmod them before they would "stick".

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Exchanged Microdrive With Flash Card (c3000)

Unfortunately there's more than just the CF connector missing in the C1000 model. There's the accompanying internal circuitry that drives it missing too. Took a look at the pictures and it sure seems there's quite a few SMD (Surface Mount Device) pieces and lil processor chips missing.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=90131\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well that's ok.

I've had about a dozen "PDA"'s over the years and this little C1K is the closest I've come to owning the "perfect" device.  With 5Gb between my Microdrive and my SD card I've got some room spare, and until hotspots are everywhere, cheap and secure I don't need  on-board connecticity to make it any better than it already is.

I'd still love to see Sharp reenter the US market with a 6Gb internal CF unit, built-in wifi and BT, along with the screen of the 6K. But that's just a fantasy

Software / Question About Maslovsky's Memory Monitor Plugin

now if you are using visualq, visual q has a problem with some jpeg images.  Im not sure but someone mentioned it could be related to pal or ntsc with i kinda dont believe.  I think its related to certain sizes visualq has a problem with.

the directory where the swapfile is created on is for example

/mnt/card/swapfile

or

/mnt/cf/swapfile

if you dont see a white file with swapfile on the top directory of your sd or cf, its not enabled at all.....

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89861\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Cresho,
I think you might be mixing up posts. Then again maybe you're just answering both at once.

Daniel was wondering about the location of his swapfile, and whether or not he actually created one.

I was the one wondering what version of the memory applet he was able to create a 128Mb swapfile with, as the version I installed for my Sharp ROM apparently only allows 64Mb max.

The version of VisualQ I have is 0.5.6. I'm not using pal or ntsc to the best of my knowledge, and I agree with you in that it seems to be a VQ issue and not the swapfile. Unfortunately VQ does not give me an error message, it just shows an empty palette, with H:0 W:0 on the lower left, and under File -> Information it says 0 pixels wide and 0 pixels high, but with a byte size of 2+Mb. Strange.

Thanks,

gdog

If I open the swapfile tab and forget to choose a location (HDD, CF, SD), but press "Generate", the progress bar jumps quickly to 100%, so I assume it really creates a swapfile somewhere. but: where?

I'd like to know where I have to look for this 128MB file I just created. ;-)

Thanks

daniel

Daniel what version of his app are you running? Max size on mine is 64Mb. I don't have my Z in front of me so I don't know what version I installed, though this was the package name, qtopia-memoryapplet-cxxxx-1.0_arm.ipk.

But even at 64Mb, it doesn't seem to help me with my problem of being able to open jpgs. I have some pictures of my Dad's watch that are 2+Mb, but the largest jpg I've been able to open so far with VisualQ is 607Kb. I din't think it's maslovsky's app at fault, but rather something in VisualQ. On the larger files it tells me the byte count, but says the picture is 0 pixels high and 0 pixels wide. Strange.

Off topic, but what kind of CF wifi card are you using, and what ROM are you running if you don't mind me asking? Did you have to install drivers or tweak the kernel in any way?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=88434\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

D-Link DCF-660W, with Sharp Rom. No extra drivers or tweaking needed, it just works.    I ordered it from conics.net along with the Z.

I have VisualQ, but can you point me to a site that has the qtopia_memoryapplet ipk?

Thanks,

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=88999\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

OK, so I downloaded and installed the memory applet, set up a 64Mb swap file on my SD card. Very cool. Thank you!

I then installed VisualQ (v. 0.5.6E), and I can open smaller jpgs just fine, the largest so far being 607Kb.

But when I try to open larger jpg pictures, for instance of my Dad's pocket watch, which are in the range of 2Mb, nothing happens. All I see is a blank palette in VisualQ, and at the bottom left it shows W:0 H:0. Under File Information it says the picture is 0 pixels wide and 0 pixels high, but size is 2071603 bytes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

gdog

Thanks for the advice.  I can view JPG no problem, but I can't view NEF files (RAW images taken when using digital SLR cameras).

Any other ideas?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89180\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Depending on the geographic region where bought, cameras may use PAL or other formats rather than jpeg. Where did your camera come from? Most allow  you to choose the format also....Just a thought.

I assume this requires an sd card with a both an ext2 and a swap partition on it? Or is it some sort of virtual swap?

I have FAT32 on my Hitachi Microdrive and it works beautifully.

Thanks Maslovsky and Cresho, it's very handy.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89117\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Here you go.

i updated the installer to use new icons and that is it.

it works great..read the readme I made cuz it has info.

i attached the file to this post.  you are the second one to use this software edited by myself.  I am the first.

maslovsky was the original author of this fine piece of software and i hope he does not mind me editing a few png's.

I ask because my SD card is a 1gb card that is formatted fat32, and although I can spare 64mb I want to be able to take it out of my Z and plug it into my laptop, which I can't do if it's formatted ext2, right?

Thanks for all the hard work you both did, but I would like to make sure it is compatible with my C1K before I try to use it.

...

what is the best image editor?  VisualQ

but we have a problem...swap size on the z is ver limited so now you need this software

qtopia-memoryapplet_1.1.1a_arm.ipk

qtopia memory aplet tells you how much memory you have on the taskbar.  Not only that, clicking on it gives you options in enabling swap files on your cf or sd card.  up to 64mb well over the limit for opening those 6megapixle images and to edit under visual q embosing, resizeing, trimming....you name it.

Let me know if you need more info.
