Broken stylus at last?  That design was awful...

Indeed, dropped it onto the floor and the top cap snapped off... I've tried gluing it several times but it never holds.

Does anyone here in the UK have any spare SL-5500 "compatible" styluses that they would be willing to post me? I'm willing to post a couple of quid as payment if necessary.

Zaurus SL-5000/5500 supports SD/MMC cards up to 1G. Larger ones are not supported nevermind how big partitions they will get.

SL-5600 under 2.4 kernel has same limitations. OpenEmbedded/OpenZaurus developers are working on getting 2.6 kernel working on this model and we have big SD/MMC cards supported (where big >= 2G).

Thats pretty damn cool =) Considering the popularity of the 5500 hopefully 2.6 will be made to work on this model at some point.

Shame about the partitions though, I'll keep the card for now since I can use it for other stuff.

I just purchased an "EasyDrive" 2.0GB SD card from Ebay, however when I plug it into my Zaurus it freezes for a couple of seconds but doesn't show the card. Any idea on how to fix this? Or is the card incompatible?

I'm using the Sharp ROM version 3.13.

What do you mean? The RAM disk which the Sharp ROM uses perhaps (as the flash is not writable with the Sharp ROM)? In this case you need to choose the 32-32 kernel (zImage), then you'll have that space back.

Used the 32-32 one, and it said the space remaining was 1900-ish KB. Big dissapointment. Unless I did something wrong that I wasn't aware of.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Macromedia Flash Plugin

Woah! I had no idea there was a flash player for the Z >_> I just installed it on my 5500 (sharp rom), but it closes after I try and open a file =( Is it possible to get this working under the default sharp rom?

EDIT: Found some more info translated from qflashplayer homepage

It is the swf file viewer which is made the on the basis of the GPL Flash library of the QFlashPlayer Olivier Debon work.   Functionally it seems like per Flash 3.  The qflashplayer madplay  (please search with the ZSI) it installs, sound (the mp3) it comes  out.  If you compare to those of the time before, some sound being cut off is improved.  It makes the plug in for the netfront, it did, but  it is because the instability * license is not well recognized,  temporarily secret.

I've installed madplay but it still doesn't like this SWF, maybe because the swf was made with a much later version of flash than flash 3, oh well.

Ok, I love my Zaurus 5500, however, a friend of mine used to have a Psion Revo, and I adored the keyboard and of course the landscape shape. I often run my zaurus in landscape mode because I find it more pleasant to look it. However, obviously while it's in landscape mode you have to buy a pocket top keyboard or whatever to type in this mode, which I don't have.

So here's my plan, lets convert the 5500 into a clamshell! I mean maybe it is a pointless exercise, but my plan shouldn't be too complicated. My idea is to get a broken revo, dismantle, somehow power the keyboard processingy bit of the revo motherboard (dunno if thats possible), and hook that up to an IR LED. Then modify IRK to use those signals.

How possible do you think this is? Am I going insane? Are there better ways of doing this, like mini IR keyboards that are already the same width as the zaurus?

If the latter, I have an Apricorn EZ-Gig PCMCIA card working in mine (connected to a Toshiba 2.5in HD).

Neat, so with that card and an adaptor I could connect a harddisk to my 5500? Thats pretty cool ^^

There should be a Jeode IPK in the applications folder included with the rom update, I've attached it to this post anyway. I don't know how you've survived without java, solun is one of my favourite zaurus applications
