Mine came with the europe adapter as well as the American one, and it's an auto-switching supply,  so yes, you can use it in europe...

Mine came with the power brick + one US power connector and one europe connector. (I think its Europe anyway. Its like the US type but with round pins)

Then again the auction clearly stated that it has 64MB SDRAM, so I got what I wanted!  ... and I must say at a very decent price!

SIMpad forum / Adding A Sd/mmc Reader

I agree that a CF port would be more useful, since you can use that for wireless networking, but you can't with SD (unless it is SDIO..which this wouldn't be, right?)

What would be ideal would be to attach a wireless network device and add a several-gig pcmcia HD to the thing...

EDIT:
Wait, come to think of it, how many GPIO pins would we need to add a USB host chip to it?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Searched around for a CF modding, and did find some sites doing that but it was done on a iOpener appliance or something. Runs linux!

As for pcmcia hd, I'm gonna receive a Kingston 5GB pcmcia drive this week, so its going to add some space to the SL4!

Conversely, you can also add a pcmcia<->IDE adapter
[a href=\"http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31567&item=6782522626&rd=1]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...6782522626&rd=1[/url]

Should be good to add a notebook hdd. Though it could strain the batteries a bit!  ... but it does open up the possibility of accessing a CDROM/DVDROM drive etc!

I'm totally with adding a USB host chip! Now that would be really good! And if a wireless card can be hardwired to it, I dun mind rigging up one of the cheap 802.11b pccards to do it! ... ie if someone can point to the How-Tos ... that should free up the pcmcia card for storage.

Back to USB host ... that would be sweet! And in linux, driver support would be so much easier!  ... I'm currently running my SL4 on CE.NET 4.1 for the timebeing ...  ... though I've been flashing it to try out the different builds. ahh ... if only I gotten two from ze Bay recently, then I can use 4.1 while testing out the new opensimpad builds!

Hello

I am considering adding a sd/mmc reader, to increase the internal storage space. What we need is a free GPIO - 4 exactly, to do what's been done with a linksys wrt54g :
http://against.org/mirror/kiel.kool.dk_27/

Any suggestion ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=85713\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

If you want to add a sd/mmc reader and don't mind using up the pccard slot, you can just get a multi-card pccard adapter. I have one and it allows me to use SD/MMC/MS etc on any system (notebook, hpcs, SL4) with a pccard slot.

EDIT: ok, I guess if adding the sd slot gives access without removing the (one and only) pcmcia slot, then its a bonus!

On that note, anyone know how to add a CF slot? It would be a lot more versatile!

Very simply put - the guy had NO idea what the simpads are.
The first one was sold at 75$ !!!!!!!

I got may at 90$

hope it has 128 RAM, cause it seems the stock 32Mb ROM aint enoth these days.

How may I connect an internal CF/MMC?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=86714\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yeap, and if he has any more stock, I'll prob get one for my friend!

You can use a CF with a CF->PCCard/PCMCIA adapter and a MMC with a multi-card pccard adapter.

The one I received (box was a bit scratched, but unit and contents are brandnew) is a 64MB version.

SIMpad forum / Feedback On Open Simpad 0.9.0rc1

I played with the new OpenSimpad.  Thanks for all the guys (and gals?) for working on this (even though it appears to be dead now).

As always I liked Linux/Opie feel.

My WiFi cards have been identified and I was online in now time.  I used konqueror.  I worked but on certain websites, like cnn.com (I understand this is a known bug) it crashed.  In addition, for some reason, konqueror was creating folders in / starting with the first letter of each website I visited and had temp files there.  So, my / looked terrible.

I was able to download programs from the feed and update some.

For the following reasons however, I decided (for now) to go back to Win.

1.  It is really hard to use the soft keyboard because the touchscreen is not completely accurate (even after playing with the config file and calibrating it multiple times) at the bottom and the keboard is so tiny.  Without a reliable way for input, it is hard to use Simpad.

2.  The CF card (through a PCMCIA adaptor) appeared to have been recognized (the applet flashed that an IDE drive was found); however, it was not mounted.  I could not find a solution.

3.  USB connection to the PC does not work (I found no solution).  In Win I was able to connect through USB.

4.  Konqueror problems that I described above.

I am not a dev. so I can't help but wait for somebody to fix this.  Until then I am using Win

Hi kurochka,

I'm kinda with you on the choice between win and linux for the simpad. I've found myself swinging between the two (and occassionally hanging my SL4) but I also find that CE.NET 4.1 has enough apps to make it usable on a daily basis for me.

How did you get windows to recognize SL4 through USB? I've yet to find a working simpad.inf file for it. I am using WindowsXP.

Having said that, I am still hopeful to try opensimpad/opie (or GPE) again when it reaches RC1.0 or something. Hopefully things get sorted out and yes, I also faced the same stylus accuracy problem.

I tried flashing in the newer image from [a href=\"http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/20050620/images/]http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/20050620/images/[/url] but have no idea what to do with the bootstrap file. I guessed that the image file http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/2...32.rootfs.jffs2 goes to root "boot> copy hda1:/opensimpad-rootfs.jffs2 root" after I rename it, copy it to CF and have the SL4 rebooted and dropped to prompt. Maybe someone can post a install guide for this image and also what to do with the bootstrap file.

What do you mean under "briked"? If you see tux logo, then your kernel is booting... So apparently bootloader is live and doing well. I would guess that your serial port settings are wrong. Try 115200-8N1, XON/XOFF flow control.

Hi Thanks for the reply and tip!  ... I'll retry later. Currently on 115200-8N1, Hardware flow control!

Hi all,

I think I bricked my SL4 while trying out this
http://opensimpad.org/opensimpad-forum/vie...95a0044e1101986

got the opieXXL image and bootloader to try a CF install.

Now I got a faint penguin on top left corner. HyperTerminal shows to prompt but hang.

What now?

Hi all,

I found the compilation of wifi cf card on http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...lessCardSupport
simply wonderful!

I've found that the power specs for NetGear MA701 is missing and found it:

http://www.netgear.com/pdf_docs/MA701v2_da...t_13Oct2003.pdf

• Power:
- Automatic built-in power management to reduce
battery usage
-Transmission = < 350 mA
-Reception = < 250 mA
-Power Save mode = 80mA

I do not know if there is a v1 specs but this could be the same with v1 and v2.

Thanks for the useful list ... saves everyone lots of time comparing specs!

Snappy!

Hi,

(Please dun flame or laugh)    Does the Pretec work with NEC MobilePro 790? It uses the MIPS chipset and runs Wince 3.0.

Thanks!
