lol, good luck with that. but it is possible to install ubuntu on the original OQO. I'm not sure as to the hardware functionality, but once you've got a full fledged Linux OS, you can configure it however you want, and get it pretty close to looking like OS X if you so desire.

Also, Learning C++, put out by oreilly publishing is a good book, but it costs about $40 USD. Also, as a reference, check out, it's sort of high level for a beginner, but good to know about

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bounty For Collie Sd Driver

I read that the SD Card Association has opened up their specs for both the physical layer and the host controller. And the Linux and FreeBSD folks are now working on drivers:

Linux driver:
FreeBSD driver:

On the strength of this, could Sharp now be persuaded to release their own driver source?

Doubtful. The linux devs over at have set up a program where the dev enters into an NDA, and then will write a driver for the kernel, without the companies needing to do anything, and I think sharp has refused stuff like that in the past. Sharp is very much against the opening up of this chip, I'm not sure why. I need to get openembedded set up, and then I'm gonna start looking at existing sd code, see if I can't figure it out. It's very likely I won't get anywhere, but it's worth a shot.

I've been told that people will help me in any way they can, just that some people don't have enough time to do it themselves

none whatsoever. This would be a learning project, with the hopeful outcome of helping the community as well. I don't want to see collie go by the wayside because of a driver issue. OZ is the only rom that still actively supports 5500, and now, with the upcoming Angstrom, the plan is to drop support there...

ah yes, you misunderstand what I was saying. I've currently got a 5500, and was using it, so I didn't want to mess up my flash by doing dev work for it. I just got my 3200 now, so I'm planning on using the 5500 only for dev work, and now I'm not worried about losing anything, or whatever.

As soon as I get some more time(within a couple of weeks), and my new 3200(tomorrow), I'm planning on working on a driver. Granted, I'm not the most skilled coder, and I've never done kernel stuff, but I'm going to attempt it.

Just thought that might be relevant, I'm not looking to collect this 'bounty'

it should've just left the one's that ran out of space before it, right? That package is the one that I noticed it ran out of space, and hit ctrl-c on. There were probably 3 or 4 others that ran out of space before that one. Yes it's a 5500, and it was 1 in the morning, I normally know not to do that.

I stupidly tried to do an 'ipkg upgrade' on my SL-5500, running 3.5.4 GPE. It started giving errors about not having enough space(I should've thought about that first), so I ctrl-c'd out of it. It still boots, and seemingly still works, mostly anyway. The Text editor, and Image viewer(and presumably other stuff that came w/ the base GPE image) won't load, giving me the error

Code: [Select]
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/loaders/ cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory
is there an easy way to fix this? or do I need to re-flash? Can I reflash, and not lose data?

I did, and it's possible I missed it, but I didn't think it was there....

Koen, you're right. I got this confused with another thread I posted. My bad.
