The links I found (such as zaurus.spy.org and at thekompany.com) 404 or something of that nature. The rest are for stuff at ZUG.

5x00 General discussions / Recommended Distro For Collie

Since OZ is dead, and the current install on my collie being messed up (from the get go, things never really worked quite right on it when I dropped 3.5.4 on it), I'm wanting to drop something on it, but not sure of my options.

Angstrom, OZ's successor, doesn't really support the Collie. List of decently broken things, and no official support. But are things that bad off?

Cacko's website appears to be no more (squatters have the domain), so can't grab it there, and the ZUG's download section appears to be broken (it loads up the main portion of the downloads, no matter what category I click on, and direct links followed from other sites to downloads do the same). Anyone know the deal on where to get it?

Outside of these two, I really have no clue. Personally, all I ever do on my collie is play Doom (with prboom), use Gaim and a IRC client (although not much), messing around on the commandline, ebook reading, text editing, and basic PIM. What options do I have for a 5500 now?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oe Mirror Dead?

Sourceforge has been having issues with server problems for the last couple months. Wasn't that long ago that they had hardware failure on their CVS server.

This really blows though, because I've been wanting to setup my zaurus with my normal apps, and I can't. Not as useful to me with a stock OZ install.

Are you running Opie or GPE? If I remember right, stock, it wont work under Opie, since it requires X11 (which GPE has).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sd Card On 3.5.4 On Collie

Hi I also got my SD card working with these instructions although the card does not show on the  panel applet in opie 3.5.4.
I get the following message when trying to insert the card
Quote
Error while ing card in socket #1
The card shows as storage in system info and is writeable.

I just installed 3.5.4, and immediately, my SD card kinda sorta worked, but I am having the same issue, where it doesnt show on the applet, and it pukes the "Error while ing..." if I try to tell it to insert. Kind of a pain in the butt if you ask me.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing Opie

Got it working. For shits and grins I flashed with the last Sharp ROM and it said that there was an error with part of the file system, and asked to repair it. I let it repair it. After that I immediately reflashed back to OZ with opie and it flashed faster, plus booted into opie without a problem. Also, it looks as if the partition on my SD card is dorked up. Oh well, this entire experience is giving me the chance to switch to a 64/0 setup, and have the SD card formatted to EXT2.

It does it right after it says its gonna load Opie.

And this is right after I'm loading with the stock 3.5.3 kernel. I've never got to where I could upgrade to the new one yet.

Flash took about 5-10 minutes, then during first boot, it was working configuring things just like after any other flash.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing Opie

I tried installing the updates so I can switch to R21, and it gave an error I was out of space, and then locked up a bit later. Rebooted, and it gave the Bus Error when it was starting Opie. I reflashed (twice actually) with the stock 3.5.3 and its still giving it. Any help?

I seem to have better luck if I dont use DHCP. Pings sent past the router are returned fine. Packets can be sent back to the devices. And like I said, all the other machines (6 others via wireless cards, and one plugged directly into the router), have no problem with this.

Anyone have any experience with Keypebble? Tried it under the stock rom, and trying now under OZ. It connects, but doesnt ever show anything. blank white screen.

Figured out how to use ipkg instead of the GUI, and much happier. Not only is it like my beloved apt, but it actually works!

Ok, got it with 3.5.3 alright, but for some reason, my new wifi card (Proxim Harmony 8630) has issues reaching past the router. Works fine on the LAN, but not past that. If I ping an IP thats outside the LAN, says network not available. Works sometimes though reaching past the router. Does this without WEP, and no other wifi machine on the network has these problems.

Problem with going with a thing like that is that I use a Wifi card, since my primary use for my Collie is SSH and VNC control of my server and desktop.

Right now, I dunno what happened, but I reformatted my CF card like mentioned in another thread (umount /dev/hda1/ and then mkfs.vfat -F 16 /dev/hda1) and when ever I put it in, the damn thing takes like 5 minutes to load up, and during that time the Zaurus is locked up. If I try take the card out during that time, it will reboot. Card works fine in my digital camera. Because of that, I am gonna wait and use another CF card (have another one coming in the mail), because I dont want to hose things up.

BTW, has anyone noticed the stock ROM for the Collie not freeing up space after you delete something? I typically have to reboot in order to free the space up, which is a bit of a pain.

Root on SD sounds nice, however, I'd prefer it on the internal memory, because I swap out SD card for the one in my camera so I can see pics I taken (my camera has a really small screen).

EDIT: I finally found my CF card! It's been missing in action since last year, and I've been looking for it for long before I got my Zaurus. Also, found the backup ROMs on the MyZaurus website. Really only leaves the question of the Java Enabled browser. I'm gonna try flash with OZ now!

Ok, I just  got a Zaurus SL-5500 and I want to switch to OZ since thats what most everyone has migrated to, but I have a few questions.

First off, how come a SD card isnt usable for flashing? Reason I ask is I don't have a CF card handy (have one in an old digital camera that is packed up somewhere after I moved, I've been looking and can't find it).  Would the Root on SD bit work for doing this?

Also, I'm sorry if this is out there somewhere, but I've been looking and not seen it. But can I backup my stock rom (or is there some already usable) incase I want to go back? I have the ROM version 2.38

Is there any Java enabled webbrowsers? It kinda surprised me that stock the Zaurus supported Java but Opera doesnt.
