C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-c3000 Restorating From Scratch
« on: October 15, 2006, 12:02:53 pm »
Greetings to everybody!

I remember pumping my SL-C3000 back to life when it was almost gone into a paperweight. The beautifull piece of information was shared in here http://www.xlfag.com/zaurus/ - titled "Restorating SL-C3000 from a scratch".

Now I'm not that desperate, actually have OZ running. However because of some minor instability and problems with WLAN, I'd like to turn back to Cacko. I face the same error msgs as once before. Back then I got my Zaurus back following the link abobe. But now the LINK IS DEAD.

So the question: has anybody a copy of the information "Restorating SL-C3000 from a scratch" ? I believe I woudn't be the only one missing that piece of info.

Big thanks,
Mersault

Linux Issues / Multisynk Sl-c3000 <-> Suse 10 Evolution

(I'm using Cacko ROM on my Zaurus with the KO/Pi etc. suite. Anybody knows for sure where this creature hides its calendar and addressbook files?)
I think I found them on Zaurus's folder /home/zaurus/kdepims/apps/korganizer/mycalendar.ics

The key questinon for me is now this - HOW do I tell Multisynk where to find Zaurus?!?

It's so close - I would need to tell Multisynk how to find my Zaurus on 192.168.129.201 / usb0! How do I put this on as a path in Multisynk?!

Please help,

Linux Issues / Multisynk Sl-c3000 <-> Suse 10 Evolution
« on: March 31, 2006, 04:10:00 pm »
Setup: Zaurus SL-C3000 Cacko ROM / SuSE 10.0 + GNOME desktop

Like most of us, I think that finding workable sync configuration between Zaurus SL-C3000 and Linux desktop is a nighmare. Now, something has begin to happen after I sat down and calmly read thru the Multisynk manual.

I've got a USB-connection between Zaurus and desktop. So, with smb://192.168.129.201 on Firefox it's all Zaurus on my desktop. With Multisynk I think I found Evolutions PIM files from a folder .evolution (surprise, surprise!). With remote connection (Zaurus) I chose 'Standard setup' and Multisynk found some PIM files from Zaurus. (I'm using Cacko ROM on my Zaurus with the KO/Pi etc. suite. Anybody knows for sure where this creature hides its calendar and addressbook files?)

When I press the magic button 'sync', the system asks for Zaurus SSH uname + passwd. I don't think I have any so I leave them all blank(?!). Multisynk seems to accept this as next I have 2 icons (cal + addr) with a sign "Loading <something>" 0 % completed". However, this is where it stops. Nothing happens.

Anybody could help me go thru this - I think I've used more or less the last six months to get a sync between Zaurus and desktop linux.

Yours,
Mersault

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Where To Find Boot Logo?
« on: January 15, 2006, 02:20:27 pm »
Hello. My apologizes if this has come up before (coundn't find with search though). I'm using SL-C3000 and would like to change the boot logo, what file and where do I need to change? OS is Cacko, I lost the original boot logo so I think I might as well try a new one.

So, what .png do I need to replace in order to get my own boot logo?

Software / Cacko 1.23 And Syncing

Looking to sync XP/Outlook with Cacko 1.23, what sync software should I be using?  Was using 5600 intellisync with Cacko 1.21a.

Thanks.

Ok. This was written ages ago and maybe you've already found a solution. My story goes to SL-C3000 with Cacko 1.23b1. I installed Zaurus drivers and Intellisync according to the instructions found in this Trisoft manual: [a href=\"http://www.trisoft.de/download/c3000sync.zip]http://www.trisoft.de/download/c3000sync.zip[/url]

I don't know what I did wrong because everything in Intellisync is still in japan, can't understand a bit of the text. Anyhow I just start the sync-icon and connect Zaurus into desktop with USB. Then choose [A] of the nonsense tab; for every modus respectively (calendar, address, email, todo). Syncing proceeds quite perfectly after that.

In Zaurus I don't use the native PIM:s, so when I start my KO/Pi or KA/Pi, I have to sync again the DTMsharp-thing in order to get the synced information from native applications.

Outside this little extra tuning I'm very pleased.

Mersault

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Cacko With Sl-c3000 Won't Suspend!

OR check the puth to sudo on your system and make a link (with ln).
Maybe I'm too much a newbie with Linux to be able to follow your advice. I quite simply just restored OS and formatted the hdd [OK+ON -> 3 -> 1], and after that installed Cacko again. Then I installed only the packages I really need. So far this works perfectly, ON\OFF is ok, sync with Outlook works like a dream. What more could I ask...

Anyway, thanks for you folks! I'll go and paypal some money to the russian person behind Cacko...

Code: [Select]
su
find / -name 'susp*'
yields a number of entries for me.

you could also (as root) execute
Code: [Select]
apm -s to suspend from the commandline
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109852\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Hello.I can now find susp.sh, thanks to your advice. This may sound stupid but how can I execute the file?

"apm -s" gives this error message:

/usr/local/bin/apm: /usr/bin/sudo: No such file or directory
/usr/local/bin/apm: /usr/bin/sudo: No such file or directory
/usr/local/bin/apm: /usr/bin/sudo: No such file or directory

So..should I install sudo, after all..?

I can't get the device suspended. On/off button does nothing, neither can I suspend my Zaurus from menu command 'Suspend'.

Do you have sudo installed? My Z wouldnt suspend when I had sudo installed from either the ZUG feed or the Cacko feed.  From the terminal as root and as zaurus run "susp.sh" and look at the error messages.  The version of sudo that is built into the cacko rom however works fine and can suspend fine.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have sudo installed. However I have the packages mentioned + some other I don't even know what they are for. I couldn't find the file "susp.sh" nor to get it executed. I didn't even find it with "find susp.sh" in console root.

Is this susp.sh a batch to be executed when the on/off is pressed? Could I download it from somewhere?

Thanks,
-Mersault-

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Cacko With Sl-c3000 Won't Suspend!
« on: January 06, 2006, 06:14:55 am »
Greez! I have had Cacko ROM couple of days. I think in the beginning I didn't have any problems. However now it seems, I can't get the device suspended. On/off button does nothing, neither can I suspend my Zaurus from menu command 'Suspend'.

Now the only way to prevent battery being drained is to remove battery every time I stop working with my Zaurus. I have installed some packages - Opera, KA/Pi, KO/Pi, OM/Pi, PWM/Pi, Kismet (not working), qpdf2 (not working), ksharpDTM etc. etc.

Could any of these packages cause this malfunction. Otherwise my Zaurus SL-C3000 is just perfect!

Deals and Great Z Buys / Pdair: Free Shipping Internationally
« on: January 04, 2006, 08:58:48 am »
I happened to visit Pdair's web-page and noticed they have some (late christmas 2005?) offer. Only as a non-US customer I had to actually place the order before ensuring the offer was _international_.

I only ordered couple of styluses - the original Zaurus SL-C3000 stylus feels a bit cheap. I'm already waiting for my metal 4-in-one stylus with ballpoint, torch and laser pointer. Anybody happen to have experiences with it?

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Network: "no Valid Service Definition File"
« on: January 04, 2006, 12:49:11 am »
Greez! I've finally got my Zaurus sl-c3000 rocking, most importantly with the wlan working. I'm still working with the traditional Zaurus rom but have done some customization. Now - for some reason when trying to get wlan connection from Settings -> Network, the device gives this error message: "No valid service definition file".

I've installed Opera 7.30 and remember deleting some files according to the instructions. Now Opera seems to be the only program to get the wlan connected (I'm writing this on Opera). Netfront of Email cannot get any connection because of this error message.

Could anybody help me with this issue?

Big thanks in advance,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Nand Backup -can't Get Free Size
« on: January 03, 2006, 03:00:55 pm »

Just tried to do a NAND backup to my Hitachi 4 GB cf microdrive and an error message, "can't get free size" pops up.  It's willing to backup up to my sd card,  but I don't have enough space there - would 1 GB be enough?

Anyway I went to the extent of reformatting the card in Windows XP and checking for errors and nothing shows up.

What does this error MEAN - any ideas?  One person in 2003 posted about the error but no one posted a solution.

I noticed that whenever I put a cf card in of ANY kind, the CF CD line changes to "low" from "high" if THAT means anything.

Help!  I want to backup my present configuration so that I can try out the Cacko ROM.

Thanks in advance.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109364\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Greetings! I had a similar problem just yesterday, just the difference I was doing NAND restore. Basically this "can't get free size" means = "I can't read (nor write) the card you're giving me!". I couldn't get my 512Mb CF card to react so I used a 256Mb SD card. I would think the Zaurus BIOS (or whatever you call this low-level IO-system interface) is quite primitive and a 4 Gb card sounds like you'd be talking french to an elephant.

I'd try with a smaller card, if you have any (Secure digital included). My problem with NAND required me also to format the SD card into FAT (this meaning FAT16 I assume?). Again, you have to play primitive enough.

(edit: Ok, nice job for me   - I just noticed you already overcame with the problem. Well - maybe I'll leave this post in case somebody else would need this information.)

I've created a HOWTO on restoring a C3000 from scratch.
Other than hardware problems, there should never be a need to send it back for reflashing.
I hope it helps.

I can't thank you enough for this precious information!!

Yesterday my Zaurus SL-C3000 was an overpriced paperweight getting dusted somewhere in my closet, nobody was interested in buying it from me. In 24h I've got wlan-connection working. The next thing was to get Zaurus in to the condition it was in the beginning. This took hours, because I've tried every possible ROM/OS version. With the help on your page, I got trough it.

I can add one thing that took hours to overcome: I could not get CF card to work with the NAND restore. It worked fine with my SD card but _only after I'd formated the card into FAT_ (FAT32 not working). Hope someone can find this usefull in the future.

Keep up the good work!

"INIT: Id "ln" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"

Still having the exact same problem when trying to install Debian. Does anybody have any idea why I'm having this report in my SL-C3000?

Like said, I'm trying to install Debian on SL-C3000 following these instructions.

http://www.eleves.ens.fr/home/leurent/zaurus.html

I knew getting Zaurus working would be more difficult compared with PPC's. But I newer knew it would be so damn difficult. So for the 2 months my Zaurus has been a 700 USD paperweight. If I need to get somethaing done, I'll have to go back to my old iPAQ.

Hrrrr...
