Thank you Cortez!

Installed but no go for my socket wifi.

It says 'failed to initialize firmware'.

I've tried to use spectrum_cs fw from Debian (which works with the previous Zubuntu 1.0) but still no luck.

Pretec works though.

The 'real' cacko system is indeed on NAND. We only need a small partition on SD/CF to hold the cacko/sharp kernel, distro description and boot parameters (which tell the boot loader to boot the 'real' cacko on NAND).

Thanks Fatty,
What do i insert in the cacko's partition on SD/CF ?

Thank you.

Three files.

image.nfo (text file containing only a name of the distro)
zImage (kernel image. Take a look at post #4)
kernel-cmdline (kernel boot parameter. The heart of this entire thread!)

Don't forget to do the patch mentioned in post #2.

Can anyone tell me how these lines would change for a C1000?  I would like to run Cacko off the main memory and try other OSs off my SD card.

console=ttyS0 root=/dev/mtdblock2 mtdparts=sharpsl-nand:7168k@0k(smf),32768k@7168k(root),-(home) jffs2_orphaned_inodes=delete EQUIPMENT=0 LOGOLANG=1 DEFYEAR=2006 LOGO=1 LAUNCH=q

The help is appreciated.

Same. It works for both of my C1000 (booting Sharp ROM) & C3100 (booting Cacko).

Hello, i've a 3100 i've done the same manipulation :

What does mean " and one to point to the install of cacko on the NAND. " ?
Because i've only create on the SD card 2 partitions, one with Zubuntu and one empty named cacko with etx3 as filesystem.

thanks.

The 'real' cacko system is indeed on NAND. We only need a small partition on SD/CF to hold the cacko/sharp kernel, distro description and boot parameters (which tell the boot loader to boot the 'real' cacko on NAND).

This is how I configured my C3100.
I installed cacko normally to the NAND.
I installed the patch avail here to remove the need for the part hard drive partitions:
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?s=&...st&p=176430
Then I created a couple of partitions on an SD card, one to hold the Zubuntu OS and one to point to the install of cacko on the NAND.
All I did to get cacko working is in the /boot partition on the sd card was place the zImage file and the kerel-cmdline containing the text below
console=ttyS0 root=/dev/mtdblock2 mtdparts=sharpsl-nand:7168k@0k(smf),32768k@7168k(root),-(home) jffs2_orphaned_inodes=delete EQUIPMENT=0 LOGOLANG=1 DEFYEAR=2006 LOGO=1 LAUNCH=q
what this does is load the zImage file from SD then loads the rest of cacko from the internal memory.

Tks. It works for me also. I can now multiboot Zubuntu/Andromeda Debian/Android 0.9/Angstrom and finally, Cacko! Ha Ha

In case anyone need, here is the kernel I used:
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...st&p=178674

Thanks it worked. One more question. I have debian installed on the hard drive. What should the kernel-cmdline file contain to boot debian successfully? Thanks

I just copy the one from Zubuntu and Debian boots just fine.

spectrum_cs: Firmware download failed

I don't mean you have to update firmware in your card. I mean you don't have the firmware (driver) in Zubuntu's /lib/firmware. (In fact the rootfs of Zubuntu release doesn't contain the firmware)

I've sent you the files which are from Andromeda Debian in case you don't have. It work for me.

Now I have to figure out how to configure networking with a symbol technologies card I guess.
the socket/symbol wifi card is soft-mac, so you have to have a firmware uploader for it - spectrum24 chipset IIRC. I think it was posted to this forum a while back, let me know if you don't find it as I can probably dig out a copy (I had one once, but traded up to a prism2-based zonet/mercury zcf1100).

My Socket Low Power Wifi CF works.

Initially, it complaints for fw. I goes to /lib/firmware and find nothing there. As I have Debian installed also, I copy all files from there to Zubuntu's and the interface comes up at eth0. Of course, I have to configure the /etc/network/interface manually beforehand. Now my ugly Pretec (works with both Debian & Zubuntu) can now goes to Akita

I also replaced the internal 16G CF (which replaced the original MD long long time ago) to a Socket bluetooth CF (works when dual-booting to Debian, yet to figure out how to set up a ppp connection with my HTC Touch Pro). If everything goes right, I will have a dual wireless Z

Code: [Select]
auto wlan0to /etc/network/interfaces? That works for me.

Added and the interface will come up automatically when insert.

Thank you.

My Pretec Wifi works after:

1. blacklist orinoco & orinoco_cs
2. manually setup wlan0 with static ip
3. manually bring up the interface with ifup wlan0. The interface doesn't come up automatically after card insert.

Mine is a Pretec wifi cf and works when dual boot to Debian (up as eth1). In Zubuntu, the card is recognized as wlan0 so I tried editing /etc/network/interface & /etc/resolv.conf directly (all static settings) as in Debian but with no luck. Card keeps blinking.

Time to work and will test later.

i have tried this using my 3100, but i found the following traps

a/ the boot menu options are different: it has no (Internal Flash Experiment) option, only the CF option is displayed (the internal CF)

b/ when i choose this option the kernel was trapped by saying "Warning: unable to open an initial console".

it seems like there should be a step on flashing the Internal installation on the Zubuntu. Please advise for any extra steps involved. Thz.

a. The internal version is only experimental. The method provided by Cortez at the moment install the distro in SD only. In fact, afaik, the multiboot kernel will search any valid partition (SD, CF, internal HDD or even internal mem block) with valid boot image/kernel command/description within /boot. So it is only up to you where to place the distros.

b. For the initial console issue as well as rtc one could be solved as advised by suggested in Cortez's blog:

Booting in the emergency system, mounting the zubuntu root file system, changing to /dev and there doing:
Code: [Select]
mknod -m 660 console c 5 1
mknod -m 660 null c 1 3
mknod -m 660 rtc c 10 135

Fatty, sent original spitz multiboot kernel via PM here on OESF

EDIT:
I haven't tried the latest release, I'll download it now. (I've been at another forum reading about ripping/saving blu-ray discs)

Thanks JonJ! Flashed and is much faster! Since the description is not a must, I'll keep using the old one.

BTW, any Pretec WIFI CF user able to bring up wifi under Zubuntu? With the new patches, my card is recognized as wlan0 (from dmesg), but I failed to bring up the interface and the CF keeps blinking. The CF works under Debian as eth1.

Fatty, I got the same problem as your first post. Does the original spitz multibook kernal fix those problems?
If yes, please send me a copy of the kernal. My Planex GW-CF11X also fail to load...

PMed.

That will fix the slow probing issue, but no distro description will be shown.

Just to let you know, there is a new boot-kernel and zubuntu-kernel coming up for Spitz. I hope this solves some of the problems, like booting from internal flash, wrong modules (spitz instead of akita), build-in support for some of the hardware (compact flash, mtd etc) and extra (wireless) networking kernel modules.

Thanks for the update.

Yes these fixed 1) modules issues like CF access 2) multi-boot menu does show the descriptions of different distro.

However, two new issue arouse to my C3100:
1) the new multi-boot kernel takes several minutes probing /dev/mtdblockX
2) after startx, an error msg prompted 'Unable to establish connection with FAM. Do you have "FAM" or "Gamin" installed and running?' and I lost the background. I also found the pointer flickers a lot.

As such, can anyone send me the original multi-boot kernel? Thanks in advance!
