Gemini PDA - Hardware / The car mount kit

I'd guess the answer might be that this clamp, to keep cost down, is partially based on some standard design, say a small tablet clamp, and that a more advanced design would make it too expensive, but again, I'm just guessing here.

It'd be nice to think so but standard ones (on Amazon) seem to cost under £20, this one is nearer £40. Admittedly this one has 3 mounts but even so £25 would seem closer to the mark. A small plate or bar at the back to support the screen and a lightly sprung arm on the base to clasp the bezel wouldn't be all that tricky.

The missing piece of kit is the 12 volt fast charger.

I share the concern.?Moving parts are almost always the weak spot

It's not clear in the picture but the side cheeks look like they have a small lip which might be enough to hold the screen in the open position.

If not and the screen is free to open & close then the kit is worse than useless.

It would be helpful to see a picture of one with a Gemini mounted.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / £30 off Gemini with clove.co.uk

Yes you could do that and pay £569, but the $599 (~£460) (+p&p) offer is still up on Indiegogo so I think that might be a better bet.

750 x $549 Cosmo Early Bird Specials (a 31% discount), which are likely gone within an hour or so.

Now all gone, sold all 825 out of 750 - some curious maths there but 75 happy people.

2 at the higher price claimed and 49/50 absurdly overpriced goldish ones left - Gold is about $40/gram, if this has a coating of more than 0.1gram I'd be surprised.

I was strong-willed, and managed to last out about 2 hours before ordering one…

I managed about the same, I recently cleared my credit card - C'est la vie.

I'm pretty sure the Indigogo campaign is more to gauge interest than to raise working capital, I suspect they didn't think the 500 would be snapped up so soon.

As for extending the offer, you can still get Geminis on Indigogo for $599 (~£450) roughly 75% of full retail so I'd expect them to keep it open but perhaps reduce the discount after some point.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Hot to touch when charging

When charging with the provided charger, the Gemini gets very warm. Is this normal for others? I know the charger negotiates a higher current / voltage (beyond 5V / .5A), but I would figure the heat will damage the battery and reduce its life over time.

Mine gets quite warm but it's warm on the display half not the base with the battery in it so I suspect it's the voltage regulator on the main board that's heating up.

Gemini PDA - Android / Firmware Update 2018-10-09

The update failed!

It took only a few seconds to apply the patch, and reboot.

Unless you have a really fast connection that does not seem right, the patch is 187.5 MB.

I used the Detect Update option in the Android settings and it seems to have installed correctly, although for some reason it rebooted to the recovery volume but just selecting Reboot there started Android which according to the Detect Update now has the latest version..

I do believe I have "landed" on a setting of dpi=550.

I ended up on roughly the same more because I didn't like the amount of vertical space lost to the Android navigation buttons when they were at the bottom.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Gemini shutting down PS Vita charger?

I can't work out what would cause it to stop working for several hours like that. If it was a blown fuse, you would expect it to not start working again!

Sounds like a thermal cutout, did the charger get hot when connected to the Gemini?

Gemini PDA - Android / MS Office Apps Won't run?

I have installed Word and Excel on my Gemini but they won't run - when I try to run either app, I just see the logo pop up for 10 seconds or so, then it crashes back to the home screen.

Had the same here after I reflashed the device. Both programs would show up for a second and then close.

Today there were upgrades for both to download and once they had it took me through the sign up process for their wretched (but free if you don't accidentally tick the wrong box) cloud thing, once that's done the programs work OK.

I suppose they need an account to work, I think the original install (which did work on mine before I flashed the hell out of it) had a dummy account which was enough to get the programs to work.

Gemini PDA - Android / Use your Gemini as USB keyboard!

I believe that ability to use Gemini PDA as USB keyboard would be extremely proficient for those of us who have to setup/debug normally unattended machines....

No use for me but I can see the possible use, the lack of F keys is a bit of a bugger though.

Perhaps doing it over Bluetooth instead of USB would be easier to implement, many devices have BT already and if not USB BT adapters are dirt cheap.

Could you give a step by step description to use noobs how this switch is to be done ?
Does that need a rooted Android ?

Rooting is not necessary.

First you need to enable "Developer Mode" - Open settings and scroll down to "About Phone", open that and scroll down to "Build Number" and tap (I think) 7 times.

Now you have a new option in settings "Developer Options", open that and scroll down to "Smallest Width" and adjust as you will.

You may also want to open the "Display" option and fiddle with "Font Size" & "Display Size" - beware changing these can alter the Smallest Width setting, also that setting seems to pick a value near to the one you set rather than the actual value you entered.

So is there a workaround for the arrow button?
