Zaurus - pdaXrom / Weird Problem With 3100, Repartitioned Md And Usb
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:35:28 pm »
I have repartitioned my microdrive as follows:

/dev/hda1 -> 512mb swap
/dev/hda2 -> 2048mb ext2
/dev/hda3 -> 1440mb fat32

With pdaxrom 1.1.0beta both hda2 and hda3 get automounted on startup to /mnt/ide2 and ide3 respectively.

However, after I connected my Z to my Windows Box and set USB mode to mass storage device and copied over some files to the fat32 partition, /dev/hda3 has stopped automounting.

I am sure this has caused it to stop automounting, I rebooted immediately after. I tried setting USB mode to network,to see if this caused the problem, but no.

I can still mount it manually and it works ok.

Perhaps when you connect it via USB to an XP box, XP does something stupid to the partition?

Any ideas on how to fix this? And how to enable swap upon startup automatically?

Thanks in advance

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Some Questions
« on: January 21, 2006, 01:32:30 pm »
I find pdaXrom really great.

However I can't seem to be able to find samba anywhere for download (it's not on any of the feeds AFAIK). Cacko's ROM has Samba enabled and I could browse the Z's folders through my XP box but with pdaXrom I can't do that. Any ideas?

Also, which mplayer frontend is the best?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Questions From New Pdaxrom User
« on: January 17, 2006, 10:34:26 am »
Hi guys,

I got my C3100 yesterday and after trying Cacko ROM 1.23 I flashed it with pdaXrom.

Everything works great, except for a few things.

I used Package manager to download and install Firefox 1.5 from the feed to my sd card. However I can't seem to be able to launch it using aterm (it doesn't have an icon created). It gives me the following:

./firefox: line 14: /usr/lib/firefox/bin/firefox: no such file or directory

Perhaps I should have it installed on the main memory?

Also, I downloaded icewm. Where can i find all the other window managers that i see being reffered to in this forum, i.e. windowmaker etc.?

And how should I edit my .xinitrc file to launch a manager other than matchbox?

Thanks in advance

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Minimo Installation Problem
« on: January 13, 2006, 11:52:31 pm »
I have OZ 3.5.4rc with GPE running on my collie.

After I updated the feeds, I downloaded and installed minimo to my sd card.

However, when I try to run it I get:

exec: 4: ./Minimo not found

Any ideas?

I have a 5500 running OZ 3.5.4 with GPE. Everything's working smoothly except for one thing:

My Symbol Wifi CF card is recognized correctly, starts working, and after a few minutes it seems to turn itsself off - the connection is lost, the CF Manager reports the card as "not ready" and the only way to make it work agaiin is to eject it and reinsert it, and again of course it stops working after a few minutes.

For the few minutes the card works, I can ping back and forth OK and internet  also works.

Any ideas? Could my card be busted? It's not even 2 months old!

P.S. I notice that it does get very warm indeed, even after a few minutes of usage... Is this supposed to happen?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / I Finally Went Ahead...
« on: December 28, 2005, 09:18:43 am »
It seems I've got the Z flu!

A couple of months ago I bought a used 5500 off eBay... and I've been hooked ever since!

So I decided to make myself a nice Christmas present - Zaurus style!

I got a C1000 off handheld-linux.com. I placed the order today, hope to have it in my hands soon...

At first I wanted to get the C3100 but I didn't like two things: 1) the price 2) the idea of moving parts inside a PDA (easy to damage etc.)

So the C1000 was the perfect choice...

Can't wait for it to come!

What ROM do you suggest for it?

On the 5500 I've tried all of them and I now use OZ 3.5.4rc...

P.S. If it weren't for these forums I'd probably be stuck with an M$ bloated PPC...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges Rom And Unicode Fonts
« on: December 10, 2005, 08:14:46 pm »
I just flashed the Hentges ROM on my 5500. Everything works like a charm except for one thing. I can't get Konqueror to display Unicode fonts. I have installed the qte unicode fonts package from the feed but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

In the Sharp 3.13 ROM it was just a matter of installing the unicode_fonts.ipk package and then Opera would display all pages correctly...

Sharp ROMs / Minor Problem With Sharp 3.13 Rom On 5500
« on: November 28, 2005, 08:06:15 pm »
I have reverted to Sharp's 3.13 ROM from OZ 3.5.4.

Everything's OK and I have both LAN and WiFi up and working with my XP box.

After a crash I had to perform a reset (using the battery switch on the back).

After the reset, all the icon names are different than before like this:

Before:

 Opera
Browser

-------

After:

 Opera

Browser

It looks like there's an extra line break both in between icons and icon names...

It's not a problem, but it does look kinda stupid and makes each tab larger in height.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks in advance

5x00 General discussions / Newbie - 5500, 3.13 Rom & Usb Tcp/ip
« on: November 09, 2005, 12:07:20 pm »
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. First I'd like to say you have a great forum here.

I got a Zaurus SL-5500 off eBay a couple of days ago and for the past 3 hours I have been checking out the alternatives to Sharp's 3.13 ROM (opie, gpe etc.). For my needs, the 3.13 ROM will do best.

I have installed both v3 USB & Ethernet drivers on my PC and communication between the Z and my box (XP SP2) is fine, I can transfer files and sync with no problem. Both the Z (PC Sync setting) and my PC (Zaurus Manager) are configured to use "USB TCP/IP".

However, I have a problem - I can't share my PC's internet connection with my Z. When I go to "Settings"->"Network" on the Z, and I click "New", there are only 4 options available:

Dial-Up (Modem)
Dial-Up (IrDA)
LAN - TCP/IP
Wireless LAN - TCP/IP

If I'm not mistaken, there should be a fifth option named "USB TCP/IP". I distinctly remember this option being there on ROM ver. 2.38 (the one the Z came with). Now, on the 3.13 it's gone...

With OPIE, it's easy to configure (it shows on the network list as "usb0" or sthg similar).

Can anyone help me here? Is there another way I can configure usb0 with the Sharp 3.13 ROM? Am I doing something wrong? I searched the forums to no avail.

Thanks in advance guys!
