I've decided to sell my beloved Z, mostly because I don't use it much nowadays (plus I kinda need the money).

It was bought on December of 2006, its in pristine condition (its been used with a screen protector since day 1).

It currently runs Cacko 1.23 with lots of programs and tweaks installed (new sd driver etc.)

Its in its original packaging with all original accessories (charger, manuals, cds etc.)

In the box I also have a PDAir leather case made for the CX000 family, and a D-Link 660W Wireless CF card (works in all distros).

I'm asking for 300 euros + shipping, I'd prefer users from the EU and Greece ofcourse

5x00 General discussions / How To Flash 5500 With Broken Cf Slot
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:24:11 pm »
I have a SL-5500 with a broken CF slot. It recognizes my WiFi card but it doesn't recognize my 128MB CF card, I've ran the tests in the diagnostics menu and they report 4 errors.

So I guess updating via CF is out.

However, I have OZ 3.5.4 running, so I'm wondering... Is it possible to flash the Z from the commandline?

Copy the required files to sd

dd the initrd.bin file to /dev/mtdblock4

and the kernel file to the appropriate block?

Can anyone help?

For Sale / Wanted / Interested In A 5600 (or 6000)
« on: August 17, 2006, 02:44:21 pm »
The CF slot on my 5500 has been pwned, and it can only work with WiFi cards now.

This requires service work, which is kinda difficult since this model was never sold here in Greece.

So I'm thinking about selling it for parts, and getting myself a 5600.

They are really, really hard to find however. :-(

I'm only interested in the unit itsself, no extra cards or accessories whatsoever. Two conditions:

1) It works

2) Unscratched screen

Other superficial blemishes etc. are not a problem

I'm willing to spend around 100 euros. For a 6000 I would ofcourse be willing to spend more...

If anyone has a 5600 for sale, please p.m. me. :-)

5x00 General discussions / I'm Going Mad! Sl-5500 Flashing Issues!
« on: August 16, 2006, 12:17:15 pm »
For the past few months I've been exclusively using my C3100.

Today I tried to flash my 5500 to the latest OZ hentges rom, to no avail.

The currently installed rom (OZ 3.5.4) boots fine, however, flashing does not work.

I am using the same CF card I've always used, it works on my other Z, it's FAT16 formatted, the initrd.bin & zImage files are correctly named, etc.

When I press C + D and then reset, nothing happens. No lights, nothing.

I've also noticed that my battery is as good as dead - the Z will only power up with the power cable plugged in.

Is this a problem when flashing?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Recommend A Cf Card To Replace My 31k's Microdrive
« on: August 12, 2006, 05:57:16 pm »
Hello all,

as the title says I would like to hear your suggestions on the matter.

I am lately using my Z as a multimedia device (watching divx movies etc.).

The problem is, when a movie is playing from the microdrive, it will start smoothly (video-audio bitrates: 500 & 96 kbps respectively) but as it progresses, the microdrive gets accessed more & more causing delays, framedrops etc.

I would think that a solid state CF card will not have these problems...

I'm interested in a 4GB card.

I've been reading about the SanDisk extreme series, but it's way out of my league... It costs ~ 250 euros in Europe!

Is a 133x card even necessary? What I mean is, are there any noticeable differences in speed between a 80x card and a 133x one when used in the Z?

I've found a great bargain - a 4gb Transcend 120x CF card for 120 euros.

Are they any good? The specs sure are nice, and it can function normally at 70 degrees celsius.

Is there anything better out there in the bang for the buck category?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mplayer Questions
« on: August 11, 2006, 09:51:35 am »
I'm back to beta3, I'm using XFCE4 from Chero's feed, and everything works perfectly.

I have installed mplayer 1.1.5 bvdd from the cacko feed - while it is faster than the pdaX one, I still can't play a 640x480 file properly.

Even with a video bitrate of 200kbps and audio at 56kbps, mplayer gives about 15-20 fps max. The audio is also out of sync.

When I play the video with -nosound, it plays perfectly - which leads me to believe there's some sort of problem with the audio decoding.

The sound on the video is a 56k mp3.

I've noticed that libmp3 is nowhere to be found. (mplayer reports it uses libmad instead).

Could this be the problem?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Help With Nand Bad Blocks!
« on: August 03, 2006, 05:41:29 am »
Guys, I need your help.

I have a C31K which has been working fine up until now.

I've flashed it about 5-6 times with different distros. I've been using pdaXrom 1.1.1 beta3.

Yesterday I gave beta4 a shot - this one uses a new bootloader, so I had to do some things from a recovery console first.

Whenever I erase the nand (flash_eraseall /dev/mtd5) I get 2 errors - it seems there are 2 bad blocks on my NAND chip! :-(

Yesterday, when I went into the diagnostics menu (D+M) and did a 'NAND Flash Erase' I got 1 error. Today I got two. What's happening? Is there anything I can do to repair these bad blocks?

I really hope I don't have to ship it to Japan...

Thanks in advance!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cf Problems In Beta4 And D-link 660w
« on: August 02, 2006, 08:45:40 pm »
I installed beta4 on my C3K1 an hour ago and I still can't get my D-Link CF card to work, or any CF card for that matter!

Whenever I insert it into its slot, the light blinks once and then dies! The python CF/SD card utility detects my SD card properly, but in the CF section it shows the microdrive... I can mount it and unmount it but that's all... No CF cards for me! :-(

Can someone help me? I think I'll go back to beta3... :-/

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Partitions And Oz 3.5.4.1rc2
« on: May 10, 2006, 08:12:21 pm »
I finally went ahead and installed OZ 3.5.4.1rc2 on my 3100.

First impressions are great! :-)

However, I have a question:

Before I flash OZ I had pdaXrom 1.1.0beta1. I used fdisk to reformat the microdrive ending up with 3 partitions:

/dev/hda1 -> system files etc.

/dev/hda2 -> ext2 storage space (/home)

/dev/hda3 -> vfat partition for windows connectivity

However, I did not format the partitions - I thought the installation program would do that.

While OZ installed perfectly and works ok, I had to manually format /dev/hda2 to ext2fs. I can't however format /dev/hda3 to vfat, mkfs.vfat doesn't seem to be there...

Also, I installed a couple of programs from the feed through the console (ipkg install etc.), it seems the only available destination is /.

When the Z boots it doesn't automagically mount /dev/hda2 as /home.

What should I do? Can someone clarify how the partition table works with the 3100 and 3.5.4.1rc2?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problem With Oz 3.5.4 And Samba
« on: March 20, 2006, 08:35:43 pm »
I have OZ 3.5.4 running on my Z with GPe 2.7. Everything works great, I installed x11vnc so I can control my Z from my PC etc.

However, I have a problem with samba.

I have succesfully downloaded and installed it, I have configured the smb.conf file, I've set the smbpasswd and I get no error messages whatsoever (testparm checks out ok).

However, on my Windows box, whenever I try to browse my Z's filesystem (I've shared the entire filesystem, i.e. "path = /", I see lots of folders (16) that are all empty, and I can't seem to be able to access any of them.

I have enable browsing, read/write etc...

The same settings work perfectly on my C31K.

What could be the problem?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3100 Would Not Turn On!
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:19:51 pm »
Something happened today that really scared me!

I was out working on my 3100, I finished my work and suspended it. The battery was almost dead.

A few hours later I tried to turn it on to no avail. "Dead battery", I thought.

However, even after plugging in the AC cord it wouldnt turn on. The battery charging light would light up but the unit was as good as dead.

I tried everything, soft resets, taking out the battery, eventually the unit after a lot of failed attempts turned on and proceeded to boot ok.

I am now writing this from the Z, it seems to be working ok. However, this incident scared me. Is this behaviour normal? Did my dead battery cause this? Does the 3100 need some juice in the battery in order to turn on?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Input Language
« on: February 13, 2006, 09:43:31 am »
...in Greek.

It's not such a big deal for me (English has become my primary language  ) but there are certain forums etc. that require replies in Greek. That's something I can't do with my Z, even though I can read Greek just fine (I have some unicode fonts installed).

Is there a way to add Greek as an input language? And is there a way to configure X to switch from English to Greek through a keyboard shortcut (like Alt+Shift in Windoze)?

Thanks in advance!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Backlight Flickering
« on: February 02, 2006, 05:46:48 pm »
Something weird I noticed today.

While working with battery power the backlight flickers especially when theres hdd activity.

It's really bothersome.

Anyone else notice this? It happens on all backlight levels.

P.S. It seems to also be related to cpu activity...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Help! Broken Xfce4!
« on: January 26, 2006, 10:46:52 pm »
I had XFCE4 installed with every plugin working perfectly ok, and I must have done something (i remember installing thunar just before the shit hit the fan) because whenever I try to start xfce4 I get the desktop with the taskbar only.

To be more precise: I tried removing xfce4 and all its config files completely, installing it to a different medium etc. but the problem is this - I can start it after a clean install, but whenever I try to add the XFCE Panel menu to the panel the entire panel dissapears and I am left with no option but to ctrl-alt-backspace out of x :-(

I did notice one error message when back in the console:

(xfce4-panel:5687): libxfce4util-CRITICAL **: xfce_desktop_entry_new: assertion `g_file_test (priv->file, G_FILE_TEST_EXISTS)' failed

When this error appears, the panel vanishes and can't be brought back... I'm really worried 'cause XFCE4 is in my opinion, the best WM for the Z right now. It's fast and pretty and very very usable - and I had everything setup perfectly only to flush it down the toilet... This sucks! :-(

Can anybody help?
