Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Re: wlan failed after lock screen

OK. If it is a wallet problem, please try the following.

sudo apt install kwalletmanager
Launch kwalletmanager5 , where you can investigate your problem. Maybe open wallet or delete wallet might help.

There is new Wiki page from Adam Boardman about UbuntuTouch on Cosmo: https://github.com/gemian/gemian/wiki/UBPorts
Be careful because it might be unfinished ... If you are brave and try it out, please post your "travel report".

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Connecting two Cosmos via WIFI or Bluetooth
« on: December 29, 2020, 11:02:07 am »
Has anybody connected two cosmo communicators via WLAN or Bluetooth? What are your experiences?

In some Linux distributions, one can easily create a new WLAN (sometimes called ad-hoc) on device 1; then, you can connect device 2 to this WLAN.

On cosmo's standard network manager in the bottom bar, I choose "Configure Network Connections", then the plus (+) dialog, which opens a promising list (including Wi-Fi, Team etc). But if I select one of them, nothing happens. Could this be a problem of user/groups settings?

I found the following workaround.

After booting, the output device in the audio controller is:

"ear piece"

After plugging in headphones, this switches to

"wired headphones"

(They work with aplay.)
After unplugging, the audio controller switches to

"speaker"

And aplay outputs to the speaker! Here we are.

Summary: Plugging and unplugging the headphones did the trick.

The wiki page https://github.com/gemian/gemian/wiki/DebianCosmo has a new final paragraph about /var/log/journal

I cannot reproduce the WLAN problem under "Linux Debian firmware v3".

I tried several devices in my aplay command, but I cannot reach the stereo speakers instead of the ear speakers. Any CLI solution would be great, aplay is not required.

Thanks for your time.

What about the other 3 entries in /etc/default/keyboard ?

XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""
BACKSPACE="guess"

And which keyboard definition file is used then?

A similar problem was discussed here for a similar device: https://github.com/stockmind/gpd-pocket-ubuntu-respin/issues/98
It seems that a linux kernel >= 4.19 or even >= 5 is needed. So, the kernel 4.4 in Gemian is too old.

Thanks for the list. I managed to write a script via SSH that sets the keyboard.

Afterwards, most keys work as expected. Some negative exceptions: The minus sign (-) should be a physical key, but it just prints ?; the - can be found as Fn-k.
Is thery anyone working on a correct keyboard? (I saw similar posts about the Italian keyboard.)

Also fighting with keys on the German keyboard. Does anybody know where to find the minus sign after a fresh install? It could be on the O-key, but how can I reach the subscripted letters?

I tried a new 32GB card from Samsung. With this card, the installation went fine.

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Installing Debian from microSD card
« on: December 04, 2020, 08:58:38 am »
I followed the wiki page https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Linux_for_Cosmo#Cosmo_Linux_installation and the corresponding youtube video. Everything ok, except that writing the debian images fails with two "ERROR:" lines instead of two "OK" lines in the step described as "Once you select the boot partition, the custom OS will be installed on your Cosmo Communicator."

I am using an old 8GB microSD card from Kingston. Could this be the problem? Any recommended microSD cards that work well with this device?

Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / Re: CoDi firmware T1.1.1.15
« on: December 04, 2020, 08:02:27 am »

Thanks for the links to instructions and the official firmware. Good to know where to find them :)

After a reboot and selecting the T1.1.1.15 manually and another 5 or 6 retries of pressing the flash button (out of mere despair), I finally succeeded without downflashing to T1.1.1.14 first. Fortunatelly once the flashing had started, it finished without errors.

Even retries did not help. What helped me: I clicked "Show internal storage" and moved around in the file selector and reentered the Downloads folder that contained Cosmo_firmware-stem_ospi2_mouse15.bin
